Introduce yourselves!

My name is Billie Morton and I've just found this beaut site. I live near Byron Bay and am a writer who lived in California for a long time. I have just discovered Australian author Meaghan Delahunt's brilliant book IN THE BLUE HOUSE set around Frida Kahlo's life. Look forward to joining in.

Welcome Billie, it's great to have you with us :) Please would you edit your post to remove reference to your book. Thanks :) We have a special section for our authors, which I can't link now (am on my phone) but I can let you know later if you can't find it.

Hi Billie and welcome to another coastie. I'm down south.

Welcome Billie. Beautiful part of the world you live in!
I'm sure you'll fit right in here.

Welcome, Billie :-) Byron is one of my favourite places in the world, I envy you! I'd love to hear what you think of the book about Frida Kahlo. I fell in love with her character in The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver and would love to read more about her.

Nice to hear from you! Yep, Byron is lovely. I am in the hills - very quiet. Good to read and write with few distractions. In the Blue House is a strange novel set around Trotsky's stay in Mexico - as a guest of Frida who he had an affair with - and tells the story of his assassination. She is such an extraordinary character and Meaghan Delahunt's take on her is original and intriguing. Thanks for the heads up on the B. Kingsolver novel. I'll check it out.
Where do you live?

How ironic, Frida Kahlo's appearance in The Lacuna also centres on Trotsky's stay with her and Diego Rivera. That's only one part of the book, but it's my favourite part :-) Made me want to google Frida's art :-)

Favourites for me are mysteries and crime, but nothing shocking or macabre. I recently discovered I quite enjoy a bit of paranormal, the more lighthearted kind, no vampires or zombies thanks.
I look forward to having a good look around this group

Billie if you go to this thread https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... and pose your question, you'll probably get quite a few responses. With this being the intro thread it'll get missed:)

Welcome To the group Melissa

Welcome Aiden good to have you here :)

I'm Carly, and I share my time between Kangaroo Island (South Australia) and Wagga Wagga (NSW) because of Uni (Say no more right?). I am so glad that I stumbled across your group, I absolutely love reading almost every genre ( I don't think I have found any I haven't?) Anyway it will be great to get to know some fellow Aussies and the chance to get to know some Aussie authors as well. So any must read recommendations would be great! Especially some rural reads because you definitely can not take the farm out of the girl :)
Welcome Carly! Great to have you with us:) Wow that's a big trek for you back and forwards between those two places!
There are a number of threads with Aussie author recommendations/new releases in them, and definitely we cover the whole range of genres. Plus the rural reads are there for you to check out too:) Enjoy browsing:)

I went to Charles Sturt Uni in Wagga - well virtually - I did my degree by correspondence :)

I'm trying hard not to flog here, but just in case you're interested, our magazine features reviews of both Aussie and international books, new releases and some older ones that you may have missed or forgotten about or just never had the chance to read. There's a mixture of established authors and up and comers. We've also got author interviews as well as the reviews. And the best bit about all of this is that it's completely free.
We've also just started a TAT Books Book Club on goodreads for anyone who's interested - each month there's an Aussie book, an Adult book, a Young Adult book and a 'bucket list' book.
That's enough flogging for now - I'm looking forward to discussions with all of you and I'd love any feedback and suggestions you might have regarding the magazine.
cheers
Hi Ashlee, great to have you on board! If you'd like an area where you can "flog", you can go to the Author section if you like - though I know you're not an author, the promotion of books by such as yourselves would work very well there... https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
Make your own thread and go for it! With this thread being an introduction thread, your post will be lost in no time.
