Hi everyone. I'm Sharon, born in Perth, raised in Adelaide and living in Melbourne. Am rapt I've found an Aussie reading group on Good Reads. I attended Lit 101 lectures at The Wheeler Centre in Melbourne so have been reading lots of Aussie books which I would never have read otherwise - Coonardoo, My Brother Jack, Lilian's Story, some Lawson and Paterson, Jonah etc. Highly recommend everyone read these wonderful Aussie classics from the past. My name is Dane and I’m a fantasy author living in Perth.

I began writing as an 18 year old because I was getting too bored with an accounting degree, but that’s the short version. Anyone who likes reading can appreciate the escapism that a good book can provide, and I found that writing one was much more rewarding. So, am I an accountant with a hobby in writing? Absolutely not. After finishing my degree I spent the next 10 years pursuing an international athletics career and I’m proud to say I represented Australia a couple of times but spent the majority getting no further than knocking on the door of a Commonwealth or Olympic Games team.

During this time, writing was always in the background for me and I finished my first book: HUNT FOR THE STAR. This was published by a small indie press from Perth but Penguin did show an interest in the manuscript some 7 years earlier.

I like to think I carry my athletics work ethic into my writing and if nothing else I’d like to be one of those who disprove that athletes and academia don’t mix.
So hello to all the Aussies and Australian fans on Goodreads and I hope some of you might find the time to support a fellow Aussie battler!
