Introduce yourselves!

I live in Perth, I'm married, have 2 kids (so not enough time to read), I work part-time as an accountant.
I'm ashamed to say I haven't read very many Aussie books ! But, I'm slowly doing so now. My favourite genre is Dystopian... but really love all sorts, just not a fan of romance anymore... although don't mind a bit of romance in amongst thrillers/mysteries/general - if that makes sense.
I hope everyone is having a nice long weekend :)

Hi Rusalka :-) where are you originally from with an unusual name like that?

Hi Margot :) I love hearing when other people win books... its good to know they're getting won by Aussies too.

Welcome to you too!
I'm an Aussie of many generations on Mum's side, and with a Yorkshire Dad.
But Rusalka is a screen name I've used for many years (my real name is ridiculously boring), and is a Slavic mythological creature, thought to be the souls of virgins who have died and now live at the bottom of
Read into that how you will ;)

Hi Rusalka...love the name, it's very "deep"! ;)

Hi Heather, did you see the movie of Cloudstreet...actually it was a miniseries in 2011 and can now be bought on DVD.... it was very good IMO....very heavy but very well done.
Lots of terrific Aussie authors and stories here, so you are in the right place! :)
G'day,
I'm Glenn, from Alice Springs, though previously Darwin, Geelong, Melbourne, Adelaide, Bendigo.
An IT guy for way too long, and an avid reader although that has slowed down recently since I now need glasses to read. :-(
Enjoy reading Cyberpunk, Steampunk, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Alt-History, etc.
Well here's hoping we all have many Goodreads together. :-)

I need glasses too but the only thing that slows my reading down is if I can't find them :)

Hello Glenn. I'm from Darwin and no Alice Springs very well. Welcome to the group )

Hi Bec, welcome, Australian Historical Fiction is my favorite genre :) we have some really talented Australian authors of this genre also.

Hi Bec welcome to the group. Lots of Historical fiction lovers here and a lot of Australian historical fiction writers as well

lol

Hi Julie :-)... no I haven't seen the movie/mini-series... but I'll keep my eye out. I didn't love the book... so we'll see....

Hi Bec !

I like books with well written female protagonists, the fantasy, sci-fi, crime, and horror genres, and comics. I've spent the past ten years of my life studying Japanese, and I'm fond of reading Japanese novels as well as English ones. (I also like video games, and marathoning TV shows)
Nice to meet you all♥︎

Sally, I don't care so much about the proper names being anime and manga. My Japanese friends call American cartoons 'anime' and American comics 'manga' anyway, so I figure differentiating between the two shouldn't matter so much. They're both pretty much the same things anyway.

I mainly read fantasy, sci fi, YA and chick lit, with a few thrillers thrown in for variety (I steal them from my husband -- somehow a book always seems more attractive to me if someone else is reading it!).

Welcome Marina, sounds like you'll fit right in. We all seem to read a little bit of everything and you'll be sure to hear about plenty of good books to add to your wish list.

Welcome to the group Marina - we have similar tastes :)

So true, Dale! My "to be read" pile already takes up a whole bookcase, and already I've been tempted half a dozen times by the books you're all mentioning! Guess I'll just have to learn to read faster ...
