Welcome Neil, it's great to have you with us:) I'm guessing it's cold over in Switzerland right about now? We are all very envious!

Welcome Neil - I'm as jealous as anything - when I was ten my family lived in Geneva for six months - over winter - I have never been back but have wonderful memories of our stay.

I read a reasonable amount when I was a little kid but didn't fall in love with reading until I started Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in grade 9 in high school. I've loved reading ever since, but I spend a huge amount of my time reading manga since 2011. So if you're interested in manga and anime, we'll be very good friends.
Anyone is more than welcome to add me as a friend.
My 2014 Reading Challenge goal is 450 books. As of this second, I've already read 82 books (well 4 books and 74 manga volumes).
Welcome Jessica, lovely to have you with us! Good luck with your dream of working in a book related job:) You'll definitely have the qualifications with that sort of reading!

Do sneak peeks occasionally :)
Best of luck following your library/book goals :)

Hi Jessica, I just added you as a friend :)
Welcome to the group. Wow! What a massive goal, good luck with it!

Welcome Daniel, great to have you with us! I will ask you to please edit your post and take out reference to your book, as this is just the introduction thread... but I'd love you to put your giveaway here https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group... and perhaps you'd like to promote your work as well? Good lord, you read the latter four A Song of Ice and Fire books all at the end of 2013? I bow to the master, LOL! I am 30% through book 3 and while I love it to bits, other paperbacks and audiobooks keep distracting me. I may even get books 4 and 5 on audio, I would be sure to power through them then :-)

I am a full time working mother of 2 and wife of 1 :P
I love books of all genres and find I have alot of trouble parting with them! I live in Croydon North Vic I look forward to the fun this group will no doubt bring.

hi Samantha. Welcome to the group :)

Hi Sally, I am a fast reader and I tend to read quite late into early hours of morning :-)Also after nearly 6 months of 7 days a week 12 hour days (with only a 3 week break in the middle) I was ready for some reading R&R.

My main interest are travels, sports and reading. Since I'm a bit broke at the moment, I'll just have to resort to reading.
Mainly interested in history and books that build good worlds. I also like books that make me go "That's interesting".

Mainly reading fantasy, scifi, history & historical fiction as I am truly sick of the real life world. Catching up on a lot of stuff I wished I had read when young, and thanks to places like librivox.org I have caught up a lot!
Pet peeve: modern authors who turn otherwise good writing and plots into porn with overly descriptive sex scenes.

I'm Bernie, a journo and author from Pine Rivers, north of Brisbane. I only found this group today. My other groups are Mystery Crime and Thriller and Chaos Reading. I don't post much on CR as the first day I was on, I was roundly abused. Life is too short for that. My FB and Twitter and GMail handle is bentbananabooks. Looking forward to being on here.
Cheers

Oh, Katherine, I miss frogs! I used to live on a 12-acre property and had frogs in our fountain there. No idea where they came from, as I live in a pretty arid area, but they bred up a storm and soon the fountain was full of tadpoles! We couldn't turn the fountain on until they grew up or they'd just get sucked up in the pump and spat out with the water at the top, LOL!

Where I live is rather arid, all of our water is bore is well restricted. The frogs only moved into this area in the last 3-4 years as the warmer & more humid climate moves south. Small salties have been spotted even, much further south than in the past.
I have a fish 'pond', actually an old bath tub framed in plywood, and a small water feature in the patio 'grotto' area, both with smaller solar pumps that don't suck up the tadpoles so badly. They grow well in the water feature, and supplement the fish diet in the tank if they wander out of the plant roots. Last year I spotted 30+ emerging fully formed from the fish tank, dunno how many I didn't see!
My grotto is the perfect place to enjoy a good book. Even in 44c heat it is cool and comfy, with it's misting system and breeze. I like to listen while watching the birds and other wild life that make their home on this little 1/4 acre block.
Honestly, I live in paradise!
