"That's near England, isn't it?" he asked.
I said no, and explained that it was..."
That was the funniest, most entertaining introduction I've seen! Welcome to the group, Cornelius :-)

Welcome, Dana! You picked a great group for your first GR group :-)

I've been a member of goodreads for a few years but only just came across this group!
I'm currently studying nursing at uni (2014 is my last year!!) so don't get to read for pleasure as much as I would like unless I'm on holidays!
Looking forward to getting to know you all! :)
Hi Andrea, welcome to the group. It's great to have you with us, and good luck with your final year at uni. What a wonderful career you will have; congratulations!

It's crazy isn't it Angela?! We had a tree uproot and ended up in our pool yesterday! I'm tucked up in bed already with my book like its a winters night! So chilly!
Thank you all for the welcome :)

I said to my husband today, I need to spend the summer months in Tasmania or the Antarctic I think! But I'd have to leave him behind!!

Haha!!
Haha!!

Today I actually remembered another occasion when I introduced myself as Australian. It was in the town of Szczecin in Poland in 83, and a big chap there with a golden tooth was trying to sell me a used car. When I explained to him that I didn't want one he said "Why not? Everyone wants car. Where you from?"
I said Australia and he grinned, "Ah, the land of death and sunshine."
"I beg your pardon?"
"All your animals, they try to kill you. Even you little insects try to kill you. Everything on the land tries to kill you, so you run to the sea and then the animals in the seas try to kill you. I am surprised you are even alive."
"Well, when you put it that way, so am-"
"And when you try to hide on high rock, the sun tries to kill you with its rays and cancer. You very lucky man. Lucky people deserve discount."
Eventually he gave up trying to sell me the car when I explained to him that I couldn't drive it home.

I'm Clare, 38 and will read pretty much anything. I've been known to panic if I haven't any fresh reading material, but also to read my favourites over and over. I find it impossible to soak in a bubble bath without a book and a cup of tea.
Guilty admission time: I've read the entire BabySitters Club series - recently.
I live and read in country Victoria, about fifteen minutes away from Hanging Rock. (Miranda?)

What a blast from the past! I absolutely loved the babysitters club books! Haven't read them for many years now though haha
I'll be in your neck of the woods at Hanging Rock in March for the Rolling Stones :)

Glad to be in the group... :D

Brilliant salesman - he really did have the gift of the gab!

@Clare, welcome! And re: the BSC, so have I. Well, not the entire series, but some of it, plus a good chunk of the California Diaries and Friends Forever. :)

Hi Ashley, what uni are you attending?

I know what you mean Ashley! I'm at uni as well and rarely get time to read during the year. Loving holidays though :)

Please can I let you all know that
Hi Marie, Can you please promote your book in the Authors Spotlight. All you need to do is create a new thread.

My name is S. J. Vellenga (John) and I am a fantasy author in Warragamba of Western Sydney, NSW. I'm a big fan of epics like "Lord of the Rings" and smaller works like those of Terry Pratchett.
Welcome John, lovely to have you with us:) Please head to the Author Spotlight section when you'd like to, to make your own thread, and you can promote your work:)
