Introduce yourselves!

I was pleased to find an Australian based group and decided to join up. I look forward to meeting you all and seeing what everyone is reading. I live in Western Sydney and love to read fantasy as well period stories.

I joined Goodreads recently and was overjoyed to find an Aussie based group.
I'd like to introduce myself to you. My name is Grant Brazell and I live in the outer suburbs of Sydney with my wife and son.
I have been an avid reader since high school when I first read The Hobbit. Whilst fantasy is my preferred genre, I do read a wide selection of books and styles. Some of my great memories are buying novels and novelettes and reading them on the train to work. Sadly, driving a car nowadays that avenue of pleasure no longer exists, but I do try to find time to sit and immerse myself in a good read.
I also am the author of the recently released novel, Tesania. I sure would be grateful if you had a look at it, I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed. I'll post more about the book in the forum.

Yes, but who's alternative spelling is it Michael? It could be an Americanism. In which case I hope Monya isn't around to catch you.

I have just joined your group and love to get you. I'm Bron from Adelaide. Currently I'm a stay at home mum to my two girls aged 5 and 3 and am studying part time (English and History)and loving it! Obviously I love to read and read a fairly wide range of books from classics, fantasy, crime, spy novels, crime and literature. I enjoy finding new authors to try who them become favourites.

Hi Bron...I'm new here too!!!

Monya is around! Hey, when was I appointed semi-official language watcher in the group? I will only take on those duties if the execution of same is not too onerous a task for my aged body. And if I get mad enough... But I might just be the oldest person on the thread and therefore the one who remembers best when Australians spoke Australian.
ANYWAY - about "sanatarium" and "sanatorium" - I always thought the spelling with an "o" was correct for a hospital/nuthouse/whatever. BUT I looked up my trusty Great Encyclopaedic Dictionary, compiled by the Oxford University Press and published by the Reader's Digest Association Pty Ltd., circa 1964. AND
for "sanatarium" the entry reads = SANATORIUM.
That's all. No definition. No separate entry for "sanatorium". I am shattered. It's the first time my favourite dictionary has let me down, and I bought it in 1973. But nor will I get up out of my comfortably cushioned computer chair to investigate other dictionaries. So the contretemps must remain until I have consulted further authorities.
And Michael - dear boy, don't believe everything you see in Wikipedia.

The trusty Shorter OED to the rescue! (Though, if anyone wants to shout me a copy of the 20 volume OED, feel free. :D)
Sanatorium is listed with definitions; sanatarium & sanitarium are both listed as "chiefly US" and point towards the entry for sanatorium.
If it's any consolation to you Michael. I would have spelt it the same way as you. :P

I've only been a member of Goodreads for about 2 months but I'm loving it! Hoping to make friends near and far.
I love many genres of fiction, from YA to fantasy to mystery to romance to crime. It's all good!

Lol fair enough..I'm not that sure about them either!!
We like to keep this bunch friendly by keeping them all in line. If they act naughty we send 'em over to Carmel's Naughty Corner.

Hahaha - so what you are saying is that you are rewarded for being naughty here! I'll have to keep that in mind. ;)

I have previously introduced myself to the group as a reader- but I thought I may just drop a line to let you know that I have recently self-published my first YA fantasy romance novel A Season Of Transformation
and am now an official Goodreads author!
