Sandi (sandikal) So, someone has read “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” and he or she has enjoyed it. He or she might go on to read more Philip K. Dick books and stories. But, what books by other authors would you recommend to someone who liked “Do Androids…?”

Sandi (sandikal) Well, I'm going to recommend "The Android's Dream" by John Scalzi. It has absolutely nothing to do with the PKD novel other than the title. But, it's one of the most fun science fiction reads I've ever had. I laughed my head off.

Julie (onetrooluff) Hmm, if you are looking for "old school" sci-fi, there's always "I, Robot" by Isaac Asimov. It's actually a collection of short stories, which are fairly loosely connected (some of the characters are in more than one story, etc). I really enjoyed it - it's very much the old "feed the robot a paradox and make his head explode" kind of stuff. I thought that all the various problems and solutions occurring with the robots were fascinating.

Actually, Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom, which you nominated already, is very similar in spirit.

Michael (bigorangemichael) | 187 comments Do you want recommendations for more PKD or do you want recommendations from a similar vein of sci-fi?

message 6: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandikal) Michael, this thread is meant to be for non-PKD books. There's a separate thread for suggestions for more PKD works.

Angie | 342 comments Thomas that book sounds great! I am going to check it out.

Sandi (sandikal) I just finished "The Stars My Destination" by Alfred Bester. When I was done, I thought, "That book seemed an awful lot like the Philip K. Dick stories I've read."

Jerrod (liquidazrael) | 58 comments a little off topic, but jinx.com has a great Electric Sheep shirt, for all your PKD fans.

Ethan (eensign) | 12 comments Read Noir by Jeter. I had a friend recommend this book since Jeter wrote several Blade Runner "authorized" sequels. I don't know if they are any good, but.... Noir was one of my favorite books that year and I'd never heard of it or even seen it on the shelf at any store.
