Lol, Sarah you're too funny. I doubt it, Sanata doesn't care much for us folks past the age of 10. It's sad really.

OK, how about, ... licks pencil again - apparently it makes them last longer and you can't really get lead poisoning....
Hi Mr Bank Manager, I really need one of these new fangled e-reader thingys to make sure my books are formatted right so they sell lots. It's a business expense, honest?
I compared the PRS-600 which I have to the PRS-650 which is the new model. The difference is the 3G access. That's nice but I'm not worried. I get all my books on the computer and just shoot 'em down the USB cable to the reader.

When did you get the newer one, Irene? Is that the only difference?

I think you made an insignificant typo :) You compared 900 to 950
600 and 650 don't have Wi-fi or 3G.
900 has Wi-fi and 950 I think has both Wi-fi and 3G.
These are some of the books I've downloaded from Kindle for free:
The list of books that are free changes quite frequently and some I've downloaded are no longer free.
I bought my Sony before the Nook came out. The Nook looks like one sweet little gadget too. I was in the bookstore and they have all these cool bookcovers you can buy for it. You can dress your Nook up like some people dress up their barbies.
In a moment of weakness, I ordered one of those Cruz tablets that Borders is coming out with. It's half the price of an ipad and it's color. Oooh color...I have to wait three weeks before it comes in.
Outlander is available for free on Kindle apps right now, in case anyone wants to read it but hasn't bought it yet.

If you guys go to 'Book News' there is a link there for some free books. Some of the books Lisarenee listed are included.
Lisarenee wrote: "Arthur do any of the following freebies appeal to you?Nope.
Sorry about it :)
The logic behind it is very simple, though. I have my TBR list and I do not deviate from it only because there are freebies. I read what I like to read. I do not want my ebook reader's features/limitations or availability of freebies to influence my choice.
Well, you are a stronger person when it comes to books then me. Too bad your TBR books aren't on the list. I tried. :)
Lisarenee wrote: "Well, you are a stronger person when it comes to books then me. Too bad your TBR books aren't on the list. I tried. :)"I am flattered. Thank you very much :)
but...I am just a slow reader. It takes me 3-4 weeks to read 800-900 pages of hardback edition. So, I must be very choosy.
I understand. That would make me very choosy too. I could read that many pages in a couple of days and still not be a slave to the book. Kind of funny, however, my best reviews come days after reading a book. It takes a couple of days for my brain to digest what I've read.
You can publish your books and read new books right from authors... You can even sell your book then. I got an email frm B&N about it. I'm not an author so I probably wouldn't use it... But it would be very helpful for anyone who is trying to start out as an author.
I received my Kindle about 2 weeks ago now I think and I absolutely adore the thing! I actually prefer to read books on it now instead of the real thing. Plus I can take all of my books with me where ever I go. I was one of those people who thought the real thing was better but i'm glad I finally broke down and bought my Kindle because now I don't think I could go without it!
You guys really make a case for having a Kindle. I love having my books my the bookshelf but I can see the advantage of having this device. I probably would still buy my very favorite books and getting books for free is a big plus.
I still love a real book, but the ability to search within a book is really a plus. The only think I would want different is for page numbers. I wonder why they don't have them? The Sony readers have page numbers and they don't change when the font is increased. You just end up clicking through more screens until you hit the next "page". It is one reason I went with a Sony...I like my page numbers too!
You know I just don't know if I will become a convert. I don't own an eReader but my sister just got the Nook. She loves it! I gave her my library card number so she could download books (I have to pay about $155/yr for my library card... long story... even though I can WALK to my library I have to pay because of the way taxes are structured... anyway... I digress)My sister's Nook looked pretty cool and I know you can sort of share books but I do love looking at the beautiful books on my shelves. I really think books are beautiful... you can't appreciate that when they are in an e-reader. I also like to look at where I am in the book and judge whether I'm a third or halfway finished. I love the feel of the paper. I kind of marvel at thinking about the story that came to life out of a bound stack of paper. It's kind of mystical to me... and I just don't think I could get that from a device.
Besides... what if the battery dies and I am close to the end? What if the hard drive crashes? Now that we have digital cameras I can't tell you how many pictures I've lost due to hard drive crashes.
You can't buy eBooks from garage sales.
You can't swap eBooks on Goodreads or buy them used.
The jury is still out for me!

I think my husband is getting me the new NOOK for Christmas however I do not think this will stop my love of holding a real book in my hands.
Carey, I have been dropping obvious hints that I want the Sony since this summer :). If I don't get it for Christmas I'll be devastated.

I have a Nook that I just bought a few months ago, but I'm hinting for the color one...It's only $100 more and it would cost me that to upgrade my memory card to 8MB, etc.
I've noticed that people who say they won't use an ereader often give the reason as not willing to give up print books. Who says you have to give up print books? You can have an ereader and also have print books. It is not an either/or situation. You can have the best of both worlds. I use both and have no plans to give up print books any time soon.
I agree Michelle, I just wish they'd give you a break if you order both. A discount when you buy them together. Paying full price for both could take a hefty amount of a person's monthly book money.
I guess I could do that... have a Nook and still read books. I just don't know how often I'd read the Nook as opposed to the books. Not sure if I'd get my money's worth. As it is, I have tons of books on my bookshelves that need to be read and I can't get to them because I keep checking out books from the library.
still waiting for my new Cruz tablet to come in. It was supposed to be here around the first of November but it was delayed. Now, they're saying at the end of November. I will never pre-order again. I have no patience for it.

i have been trying to get my 10 year old son to read more. and lately he has been saying he wants to read on my ebook. i am willing to let him read (as long as he is sitting next to me) if i could find free books to download for him.
Irene wrote: "still waiting for my new Cruz tablet to come in. It was supposed to be here around the first of November but it was delayed. Now, they're saying at the end of November. I will never pre-order again..."Irene, do you have more than one Ereader?
Stephanie, you need to tell us how the two compare after you've played with your nook a little bit more.
I have a Sony ereader currently. I love it. I'm buying the Cruz tablet for the color and the small internet capability it has.
Lisarenee wrote: "I agree Michelle, I just wish they'd give you a break if you order both. A discount when you buy them together. For an extra charge (not sure how much), you get the ebook and the paper version.

Could you let me know what you think of it when you get it and have played around with it a bit?
