I am not holding my breath, she has been saying this for YEARS.
Have just finished reading all the books that have been written in this series so far and hoping against hope that there will be some news about the next book. Has there been any news since Feb last year????? This is an amazing series and deserves to continue.
Thanks Laura and Kim for your reply. I was hoping against hope that I may have missed a post or something, but it seems my worst fears regarding this series have been realised. Have you heard why there has been no progress from the publisher? Is it a problem with sales and not being able to convince the publisher to support another book in the series? I have read that publishers in general are saying that urban fantasy is no longer what readers 'want' to read (based on sales figures) and that is very irritating to hear. I was reading UF long before it went mainstream and I am still reading it now that it has gone back to being niche and I would seriously pay to have this series finished! I have heard of authors whose fans have crowdfunded additional books, which would be kind of awesome. It would be a real shame for this series to remain incomplete. I love it because there is no attempt to whitewash the protagonist's destructive tendencies or sanitize her story to make it more palatable to a mainstream readership. I admire authors who are not afraid to create a character that presses people's buttons. I really hope that this series can be completed.
I think she will eventually complete it. It will be self published because the publisher didn't pick up more books. I also know she has been working on a book for a while, maybe she is stuck? she also recently moved from the UK back to the US so she is maybe still getting settled? I will hold out hope but not hold my breath
I agree with Laura, Stacia will more than likely self publish the rest of the series. I know it’s a lot of work for her (she said so when she released wrong ways down) but that’ll ultimately be how we’ll get more downside. Also her move back to the states was huge. It has been incredibly hard waiting this long, I’ve had several friends who’ve just given up. I won’t stop hoping for more until Stacia herself tells me it’s done forever.
Maybe we should all lovingly gang up on her & ask. I’ll go send her a couple tweets.
Plus I think it’ll be good if she knows people are still wanting more of her & her characters. We’ve all seen how cut throat publishing can be.
Kim the Strange wrote: "Maybe we should all lovingly gang up on her & ask. I’ll go send her a couple tweets."We should all tweet her ;-) Maybe I will ask on her FB too. I do have a friend that is one of her crit partners, so maybe I will ask her as well. USE ALL THE RESOURCES.
YES!! Let the tweet & post storm commence!!! *Insert evil witch gif here*
I would email her, but I knows she’s had issues with her main email. Something about google not letting her sign in after she moved back to the states.
I’ll send her a random tweet with a lethal weapon gif, she liked the last one I sent her. Heh....
Thanks Laura for the update-it is good to know a bit of the background there. Publishers gggrrrr. I know they have to make money, but to commission half a series and give up on an author to me is a bit like commissioning half a symphony or half an art work. I was about to add half a movie or half a tv series but whoops-that has actually been done before. It is good to know that we will most likely get book 6-eventually. I still think crowdfunding/self-publishing are possibilities. Gotta work that new tech and mobilise the fan base.
I just found this after someone posted on her FB.. Hi guys! I have been waiting a long time as well :(. I actually tweeted her about a month ago and she never responded. I didn't want to bug her so I never asked again. This is my favorite series and that says a lot because I read A LOT. At least I have somewhere to talk to people now!
we alllll feel your pain. this group ebbs and flows, but we are all here for the same reason. welcome!
I tweeted her the other day, but she didn’t respond. But knowing her she’ll respond at a random time. She’s done that to me before, haha...
I stay away from Twitter because I found myself getting mad at my favorite authors for tweeting a lot and not writing all the books I want. :D
Omg...I can't wait any longer! I get so frustrated when a good author just...stops...for whatever reason. The publishers are fucking idiots!I love this series, mainly because it combines both outstanding UF, a heroine who is by no means perfect and...they are a rockabilly couple! I love that and have never read another book where the heroine has my hairstyle and lots of tattoos! lol! Gimme a diverse heroine and hero anytime instead of auburn hair and creamy, peachy skin.
I would totally let Terrible do me in a seedy toilet. it would be worth the bacteria.
*sigh* I feel like crying
Aww Nicky I know. One of my UF pet peeves is that so many of the 'strong' heroines are always stuck in full leather club style. And the dudes aren't much better.
I have a friend that just started this series, and it is so much fun following along on her journey. She just met Bump and Terrible for the first time. I am a bit jealous. <3
Ahh Chessie Bomb...That has to be the best pet name I have ever heard in a series..
If she is crowd funding, I would pay for her to finish the series
I absolutely love her relationship with Terrible-especially the way he looks after her when she is at a crisis point because of the drugs.
I agree, their love story is complex and beautiful. Sigh, I miss this series. I’ve been putting off a re-read because it hurts not knowing anything about the future of this series.
I’d really like to know what has happened to ‘Unholy Luck’. Going by Stacia’s comments, it sounds like it has already been written but was waiting for the publisher to schedule it/buy(?) it? Looking back thro blog entries etc she seems to have been on the verge of making an announcement about it before and then nothing has eventuated. I am hoping this is not because the publisher has pulled the plug but rather has something to do with scheduling-meaning there is still a chance we might get to read the book sometime in the future. For those fans of Ilona Andrews, remember the hiatus with Hidden Legacy. Although, I wonder... if the publisher has pulled the plug, how long would it be before Stacia was free to ‘sell’ other books in the series by say, crowdfunding a novel. I would happily pay to read it that is for sure. The problem is, I seem to remember another favorite author wanting to write more on a series that was abandoned by its publisher and she had to wait for their legal claim on the series rights to expire before she could effectively start self-publishing. Hoping this is not the case.I really want to see where Stacia goes with the story. There are so many questions that remain unanswered. :-)
at least we can take comfort in that the last book left Chess and Terrible in a good place. No cliffhanger ending or breakup to get through. I would be dying if that were the case.
My heart would do a happy dance every time she’d say we’d get Downside news soon, but it never came. I’ve always held out hope (which is totally uncommon for me) but it has begun to feel hopeless and that truly breaks my heart. I would absolutely crowdfund any effort to help make this series continue on. I’ve told Stacia this, but only she knows what can and can not be done.
And yes, the last book did leave them in a good place. But that’s equally as bad as a cliffhanger. Because I’m left wanting more of their happiness. Because we know they both truly deserve it.
Damn it, now I’m super sad.
What was the last thing released? A short??? We could ask for another of those. I am not normally a fan of novellas or short stories, but Stacia's are awesome!!!! Absolutely loved Home and Keeping It Close.
Yeah Keeping it Close was the last Downside related thing she released. That was back in 2104...sigh. I legit get sad every time I talk about this series now. It was never like this before.
2014! I had not looked at the publishing date and had no idea it was so long ago. That would not seem to bode well for a future release :-( Oh well. Will just have to hope she responds to your tweet sometime, Kim. Thanks for trying. I will always hold out hope that we can get another book.
Sad sigh, so much sadness. Stacia isn’t the present on social media, but she’s never been this quiet before. Not even a random tweet or post on fb.
I recently came across the Downside series while browsing my local library. I drive about an hour each day so I like to listen to audio books. The reader of the Downside audio books is wonderful. She does the voices so well. Anyway, I listened to the first book back in January and was hooked. I finished the 5th book last night and started searching the web for dates for the next release. I was saddened to learn Stacia Kane does not have a release date for her next book. I know I was late to the party with this series but I can't get enough. I have read all but 2 of the short stories/novellas. I loved Wrong Way Down! More from Terrible's perspective would be wonderful. It's nice to know I am not alone in my sorrow and need for another book. I didn't think I would ever need a support group for a book series but now I know better.Does anyone know of any fanfiction based on this series and where I could find it?
Welcome to the Downside madness and sadness. Several of us have been waiting years for book 6. Sad sigh...
I have never come across any downside fanfiction.
Have you read Five Down...it’s the collection of short stories.
welcome Jennifer! I have a friend who is finishing book 5 and she has already started asking what she is going to do when it is over. so you are in good company at least. <3
In desperation, I went on the publisher's page just the other day to try and find out more and I found this:http://harpervoyagerbooks.co.uk/book/...
The worst part was reading the so called publishing date. I have been tempted to write to the publisher and ask what has happened except I can't even find an contact email address so I am back to square one. *sigh*
