Here write about other books which you think should've been in the challenge.

I think that The Salt Road and The Hunger Games should've been on the list.

Well, I think every 6 months we should do a book voted for the list. Anyone agree or have other suggestions??

Maybe we could create our own list?

If by 'Can you keep a Secret' you mean Sophie Kinsella, I doubt this would be in it!! Though it can be in ours if you like. ;)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) We can change our list? I see some people have differents lists of 100. I'm confused but hopeful at the same time. There are some books on the list, I'm not excited about...

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes you can change the lists....I made mine personal because for me reading is really personal...I don't like all the books you like and Nicolle doesn't like all the books I read, so please feel free to change it up as you go!!!

I see this thread is already up about books that should be in our challenge.

So here's the situation. A book has been nominated for our group read that is not on the original list. Because of this I did not include it in the poll for the September read. However, if there is interest, I would like to have a buddy read. The book is Lord of the Flies by William Golding.

Please answer here if you would like to have a buddy read of this book. It's been 50 years since I read it so I would participate and perhaps Tenial who nominated it is still interested. If there is interest I will set up a folder for buddy reads.

And I think Teri-Lynn said she is reading it. That would be a minimum of 4 ... plenty for a buddy read. I'll set up a thread and we can start in about a week or 10 days. That should give others time to get a copy. I will probably get mine from amazon. It's $5.43 for the Kindle.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) This one should be in the challenge ...

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day by Winifred Watson Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day by Winifred Watson – 4 ****
What a delightful comedic romp! I just love Miss Pettigrew, who is in turn amused, shocked, befuddled, brilliant, compassionate, composed, or flustered. The ebullient and casual Miss LaFosse is a perfect counterpoint for Miss Pettigrew, who is restrained and formal. I was reminded of Damon Runyon’s stories, although with a bit more class.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) I think this one should definitely be in the challenge

Cry, the Beloved Country A Story of Comfort in Desolation by Alan Paton Cry the Beloved Country by Alan Paton – 4****
First published in 1948, this novel has remained an international bestseller. It tells of a personal tragedy, but also of a national tragedy – apartheid. The writing is lyrical and evocative of time and place. A personal tragedy is the focus on the novel, but it is framed by the larger issues facing South Africa – the loss of tribal culture, poverty, flight to the already overcrowded city slums. Frederick Davidson does a good job narrating, but I did find his very slow pace hard to get used to.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) West with the Night by Beryl Markham
West With the Night – Beryl Markham – 5*****
Markham was an independent woman who lived life to the fullest, and on her own terms. While there has been significant controversy over whether she actually wrote this memoir (vs her third husband ghost-writing it for her), I still highly recommend it! Full of vivid imagery and really gives a sense of what life was like for the colonialists in Kenya in the early part of the 20th century.
