Jen (mysterywriter19) | 1 comments I've just finished reading "The Last Dragonslayer" and thought it was fantastic, with the balance of humor and subtle commentary of real world issues expected from a Ffordeian novel. I'm looking forward to reading the later books in this series (though readily available in the UK, will be released in the US later this year).

Jen, that is great to hear! I actually ended up buying Last Dragonslayer and Song of the Quarkbeast through Amazon Canada (I love the internet) so I wouldn't have to wait...but then haven't gotten around to starting them due to other reading deadlines for work. Also, I was kind of curious why no one had really posted anything about these books in the forum yet, so I'm glad to see they are being read! Looking forward to wedging them in with my "required" reading!!!

Just finushed LD and I have to agree it was classic Fforde...great humor, a well-paced story and a unique twist on his theme. This time he takes on magic and does so with flair and fun. It's not light though, and he sneaks in some thought provoking needles at globalization, ecology, sustainability and politics before you even notice you've been schooled.

Chris | 2 comments I've read the first two in this series and loved them. Fforde does a great job of putting real life problems into his books that lighten the topics up without diminishing their importance.

message 7: by Jay (new)

Jay (weaselpipe) | 10 comments I found the first one read like a series of character introductions, making Quarkbeast a better read for me. I feel slightly bitter about them as they are taking the place of Shades Of Grey 2

Chris | 2 comments I would rather have had another shades of grey too. It's coming soon I think
