I have enjoyed many trilogies such as Deep Waters by Paula Freeman in recent years. I believe I will come to love the Name of Wind (if it is ever finished). What are some completed trilogies in the fantasy adventure genre that you would recommend.

Donna (ncdonnas) There are quite a few, I prefer to read books that are series because I always want to know what happens to my favorite characters after that book ends.

A few trilogies I've recently read and loved were

Anne Bishop's Black Jewels trilogy beginning with Daughter of the Blood

Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn
Mistborn Trilogy Boxed Set

Maria V Snyder's Study series Poison Study

Tad Williams Memory Sorrow and Thorn The Dragonbone Chair

Sonya | 11 comments I enjoyed The Black Jewels trilogy. I re-read the series several times in a row before I moved on to a new book.

I have not read Godkind but I have noticed he has written several science fiction series. How does he handle romance between his characters? I can't stand awkardly written romance.

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) Not at all jD..Richard & Kahlan have a very special realationship...when they finally come "together" the tears will come! if I was stranded on a island these would be the books I take with me! you should start withDebt of Bones its the "prequel" to the series..and gives you an idea of how "boundry" between the lands started. I recommend you read the books first instead of the movie...and like all long series not all the books are 5 star..but just as good.
Im sure you can get them at the library.

I live for my library in this economy. I actually have a shelves in my "to read" group called "at library" and "not at library" so I will know what I need to buy. I also have a Kindle but do not purchase fantasy and science fiction with it. I really like turning pages of a good long fantasy or science fiction book.

I really like this one as well. I've read it 4 or 5 times and got in ebook format recently for another re-read.

While I liked this series, I got it mixed up with
[book:Daughter of Dragons
and The Dragon Rebornby Kathleen Nelson. Now THOSE, I've read 4 or 5 times.

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) Those look good Jesslyn...were they the only 2? or is there more..a triolgy?

It was just the two. If you use Kindle or the app, get them there. The books are about $20 each, the Kindle versions about $6.50 each. Either way, they were very good books.

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) No I dont have Kindle Jesslyn or any other fancy gizmo...I love the feel of a book in my hand..the smell...the hunt to find...:)sigh

Sandi,

I have a Kindle but find that I prefer to read longer books such as those from the fantasy genre in hardcover. I like the feel of a big book. I read romance and reference books on my Kindle.

I gave up DTBs about a week after I got my 1st Kindle and never looked back. All my sisters and daughter now read exclusively on them. I tried to read a physical book about a month ago and all I could think of was Ugh!

My husband couldn't be happier. I had an entire closet and all the wall space of a 2-car garage filled with books and boxes of books. That I've almost finished giving away.

Jesslyn,

The books were taking over my house too so hubby and daughters gave me a Kindle. I love it but the percentage thing does not work for me with books that are more than 500 pages. In all fairness to my Kindle, I have only tried once with one of J. Carey's Kushiel books and got too frustrated. Perhaps I will purchase the sequel to the "Name of the Wind" on my Kindle when it comes out. It will be interesting to see if my experience changes.

The percentage thing didn't work or you didn't like how it worked? If it was broken, Amazon is happy to help get you a fixed/better one.

I just got the Kindle 3 and am shocked at how much better the screen is.

Does the new Kindle have backlight? That frustrates me when I am on a road trip and have to use a flashlight. I do that with books but it seems odd to have to do it on an electronic device. BTW -- my percentage works, it's just me. I like to see the volume of pages shift to the left on large books as I read. It's a leftover childhood thing:).

No backlight. The whole purpose of the eInk screen is to emulate a book for ease of reading, etc. Amazon is selling a case for it with a built-in light so if you were to use that your problems would be solved.

Since you have a Kindle 2, you can see my website here (http://www.knuckleheadnetwork.com/200...) That particular article can help with your Kindle lighting issue.

I have read Anne Bishop and Marie Snyder. Both very good books and relatively quick to read. Mistborn sounds interesting. I am going to check out the reviews.

Donna (ncdonnas) Currently reading a GREAT series by Stacia Kane, The Downside Ghosts, starting with Unholy Ghosts This is a dark and gritty UF without a lot of PNR tendencies. This is quickly becoming one of my all time favorites and I'm only a few chapters into the second book!

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) Donna..Ive seen these at the book store..& read reviews..seems she has a drug problem..always snorting & poping pills? whats that about??

message 26: by Donna (new)

Donna (ncdonnas) Yes, the drug use is a big part of the story. But its not written in a way that glorifies it, actually I ended up feeling very sorry for her. Basically Chess (main characters name) snorts and pops pills daily as a way of numbing herself to the memories of an extremely traumatic childhood as well as some of the rather scary situations she has to face in her day to day life. The way the drug use is portrayed though, its made very clear that the drugs cause her to be put into even worse situations, being blackmailed into complying with what her drug dealer wants her to do, as well as being blackmailed by her drug dealers rival. I think the author did a really good job of making this character very believable and really looking at the emotional turmoil she goes through that both causes her to use and as a result of her using.
And alongside all of this is an UF plotline that is action packed and I personally found to be a little scary. I LOVED the first book, and so far the second is even better.
