Kristel (kristelh) I have Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky (2008 edition). Does anyone want it? I will post it over on Bookmooch if anyone wants it.

Judith (jloucks) | 1202 comments Anyone have a title they are ready to post on bookmooch for trade but haven't yet? I have a credit I'm dying to use for a 1001 List book!

message 57: by Kristel (new)

Kristel (kristelh) I've posted Jude the Obscure on bookmooch and also have Crime and Punishment and Howard's End. If there is any other, let me know. I would be willing to let A Handmaid's Tale by Atwood go for a good trade.

message 58: by Mystique (new)

Mystique (slickitty) | 8 comments When I finish Veronika Decides to Die (which should be this weekend), I will swap it to someone in exchange for Dr. Zhivago.

Any takers?

message 59: by Yrinsyde (new)

Yrinsyde | 295 comments I'm in Australia and have just joined BookMooch (I'm yrinsyde). I'm just posting in Australia at the moment but will consider going international. I have Phineas Finn and Dorian Gray.

message 60: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jesteraverage) Do most people use bookmooch? I just started using Goodreads' book swap, so wondering if bookmooch is a better way to go?

message 61: by Judith (new)

Judith (jloucks) | 1202 comments I believe that bookmooch is less expensive. No fees, postage only, usually $2.38 for average size books (within U.S.) No need to use credit or debit cards, just buy stamps (and maybe a scale) or go to the P.O.

I've never used goodreads.

message 62: by Anthony (new)

Anthony DeCastro | 168 comments To be honest, I don't know why we can just set up swaps here on this thread. But, everyone seems to be using bookmooch.

message 63: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jesteraverage) oooh I'm down for cheaper!

I think there's something a little more official, and maybe protective about going through a site like goodreads or bookmooch. Also makes it easier to find books your looking for, and list books you're willing to swap on a site with search features than on a message thread... think that's why.

message 64: by Anthony (new)

Anthony DeCastro | 168 comments I feel more comfortable swapping with group members, and I certainly prefer sending my list books to them. Plus, it's a little more personal setting up a true swap, then using bookmooch IMO. But I'm fine with bookmooch if that's the way everyone prefers. I'll keep posting the list books I plan to post, that way group members can (hopefully) mooch them.

message 65: by Mystique (new)

Mystique (slickitty) | 8 comments I'd swap with group members, but it's hard to figure out a method to the madness.

Also, if you're a swapper on this site, you don't get any "karma" for swapping within the group, which may not matter, as long as you're getting books you really want, but it's worth noting.

message 66: by Judith (new)

Judith (jloucks) | 1202 comments I have a copy of "Four Short Novels by D.H. Lawrence" to trade, a nice paperback Viking Press edition in good shape.

It includes "The Fox" (on the first version of the 1001 List), "Love Among the Haystacks", "The Ladybird" and "The Captain's Doll"

Yrinsyde | 295 comments Mystique wrote: "I'd swap with group members, but it's hard to figure out a method to the madness.

I'm willing to swap directly with group members! If we work out a fair system that everyone is happy with, it could be great. An idea would be to announce what you have and post out one book at a time only to people who ask for your item - first come, first served. No points and who has swapped what. Heck - I would be happy to send a book out to someone who wants to read it and not ask for one in return! I'm happy if the book goes to a good home. :)

I agree...it makes it a little more "traceable" in case anything strange should happen.

I prefer Goodreads, because the requestor pays for the shipping and you can print the label right there, on the spot. It's a piece of cake. I don't even mind if it costs a few cents more. I think it's far more convenient than bookmooch. Bookmooch has a complicated points system and limits the amount of books you can swap, based on how many you've shipped vs. sent, which really doesn't seem fair. For instance, I have lots of books up for swap and if someone doesn't want them (they're popular books), I can't really be held responsible for the fact that I haven't shipped anything.

It also doesn't give you the freedom to give to "askers" who aren't really interested in giving. For instance, at Goodreads, I gave away several books to a person who had shipped nothing. On bookmooch, that wouldn't fly. It should be my decision, not the site's decision.

message 69: by Anthony (new)

Anthony DeCastro | 168 comments If anyone is interested in the list book "Decline and Fall" by Evelyn Waugh, let me know. I'll be finishing tomorrow. It's an old omnibus paperback (the other title is "A Handful of Dust") and it looks like it was a student copy 'cause there are several underlined passages, but it's a perfectly fine reader's copy. I can reserve it for somebody on bookmooch if needed. I'll be shipping out books on Monday.

Actually, that sounds like a good idea. I am also having second thoughts about BookMooch because I like giving books away and I don't have to have people send me books. Is there any way we can have a vote on it via Goodreads? Since GR is the system we are using for this club = perhaps GR should handle the swaps. Thoughts?

message 71: by Anthony (new)

Anthony DeCastro | 168 comments What happens on the Good Reads system, when you as the receiver pay for the shipping and the person doesn't send the book?

Anyway, still looking for a home for Evelyn Waugh's "Decline and Fall".

message 72: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (yahyah) | 2 comments Jessica wrote: "Well, I guess I'll keep trying bookmooch, but if anyone happens across this thread and wants to swap, please message me! Thanks!"

Why don't you just use the bookswap on this site? Why do you only want to swap with people in this particular group? I've used bookswap here at GR and have added 5 books to my collection. All in all, it cost under 18 bucks.

message 73: by Sissy (new)

Sissy I just opened up a bookmooch account and have added two 1001 books - Robinson Crusoe and The Remains of the Day - if anyone is looking for them. User name is rosebrok.

You don't pay for the label until the shipper actually prints it.

Goodreads asks the shipper, "Are you ready to ship right now?" If the shipper clicks, "I will ship later," the label is not printed and you are not charged. If the shipper clicks, "Yes, I am ready to ship right now," then the label is printed and the recipient is charged.

There is no benefit to the shipper to not send the book. The shipper does not receive any money. The label is a pre-paid label paid for by (ostensibly) Goodreads, thus the small upcharge.

message 75: by Anthony (new)

Anthony DeCastro | 168 comments I realize there is no benefit, I didn't think money went to the shipper...but, that means nothing. I've been a member of swap sites long enough to know that sometimes the books won't get shipped. It's irritating, but at least on the other sites I haven't paid for shipping. So, I still wonder what happens when the book isn't shipped?

Shanika (shanikachante) Tony wrote: "I realize there is no benefit, I didn't think money went to the shipper...but, that means nothing. I've been a member of swap sites long enough to know that sometimes the books won't get shipped. ..."

(from bookswap help section)

What happens if the owner prints a label and I get billed, but they don't ship?
You are charged as soon as the owner prints out the shipping label. However, the owner can still try to send the book a few days late. Even though shipping labels are only valid the day they are printed, some postmasters will still mail an expired shipping label, but it's up to the discretion of that particular post office. If the owner never sends the book and the shipping label is not used, we will issue a refund and attempt to cancel the label.

message 77: by Sissy (new)

Sissy The negative to the Goodreads swap is that it is not open to anyone outside of the US - even Canadians. =(

message 78: by Sissy (new)

Sissy I'm going to be putting a copy of A Farewell to Arms up on Bookmooch if anyone is interested. I didn't realize I already had a copy when I found another at a book sale this past week. Its an older edition but its still in good condition.

Sissy I would love either In Cold Blood or The Awakening - if they're still available - but I also have no points at BM right now - and I'm also in Canada - don't know if that will be a problem. I should have points soon as I had a request this morning.

I also may be listing Amsterdam and Fugitive Pieces soon if anyone is interested - I will know by the end of the day if no one snaps them up at work.
