Any takers?

I've never used goodreads.

I think there's something a little more official, and maybe protective about going through a site like goodreads or bookmooch. Also makes it easier to find books your looking for, and list books you're willing to swap on a site with search features than on a message thread... think that's why.

Also, if you're a swapper on this site, you don't get any "karma" for swapping within the group, which may not matter, as long as you're getting books you really want, but it's worth noting.

It includes "The Fox" (on the first version of the 1001 List), "Love Among the Haystacks", "The Ladybird" and "The Captain's Doll"

I'm willing to swap directly with group members! If we work out a fair system that everyone is happy with, it could be great. An idea would be to announce what you have and post out one book at a time only to people who ask for your item - first come, first served. No points and who has swapped what. Heck - I would be happy to send a book out to someone who wants to read it and not ask for one in return! I'm happy if the book goes to a good home. :)

I agree...it makes it a little more "traceable" in case anything strange should happen.
I prefer Goodreads, because the requestor pays for the shipping and you can print the label right there, on the spot. It's a piece of cake. I don't even mind if it costs a few cents more. I think it's far more convenient than bookmooch. Bookmooch has a complicated points system and limits the amount of books you can swap, based on how many you've shipped vs. sent, which really doesn't seem fair. For instance, I have lots of books up for swap and if someone doesn't want them (they're popular books), I can't really be held responsible for the fact that I haven't shipped anything.
It also doesn't give you the freedom to give to "askers" who aren't really interested in giving. For instance, at Goodreads, I gave away several books to a person who had shipped nothing. On bookmooch, that wouldn't fly. It should be my decision, not the site's decision.

Actually, that sounds like a good idea. I am also having second thoughts about BookMooch because I like giving books away and I don't have to have people send me books. Is there any way we can have a vote on it via Goodreads? Since GR is the system we are using for this club = perhaps GR should handle the swaps. Thoughts?

Anyway, still looking for a home for Evelyn Waugh's "Decline and Fall".

Why don't you just use the bookswap on this site? Why do you only want to swap with people in this particular group? I've used bookswap here at GR and have added 5 books to my collection. All in all, it cost under 18 bucks.

You don't pay for the label until the shipper actually prints it.
Goodreads asks the shipper, "Are you ready to ship right now?" If the shipper clicks, "I will ship later," the label is not printed and you are not charged. If the shipper clicks, "Yes, I am ready to ship right now," then the label is printed and the recipient is charged.
There is no benefit to the shipper to not send the book. The shipper does not receive any money. The label is a pre-paid label paid for by (ostensibly) Goodreads, thus the small upcharge.

(from bookswap help section)
What happens if the owner prints a label and I get billed, but they don't ship?
You are charged as soon as the owner prints out the shipping label. However, the owner can still try to send the book a few days late. Even though shipping labels are only valid the day they are printed, some postmasters will still mail an expired shipping label, but it's up to the discretion of that particular post office. If the owner never sends the book and the shipping label is not used, we will issue a refund and attempt to cancel the label.

Judith, I can wait until you get some points at BM, I will reserve for you then.

I also may be listing Amsterdam and Fugitive Pieces soon if anyone is interested - I will know by the end of the day if no one snaps them up at work.
