Savita (haltranger) | 2117 comments Mod
Hm. Well, I don't even eat beef...

message 511: by Emily (new)

Emily (lafillebrigitte) | 742 comments yeah they look cool, but it's actually really cruel to breed animals for their hides or pelts. have you heard of books being bound from the hides of unborn calves!?!?

message 512: by Savita, I'm NOT giving away Butterbeer. (new)

Savita (haltranger) | 2117 comments Mod
Ew, no I haven;t.

message 513: by Emily (new)

Emily (lafillebrigitte) | 742 comments my mum told me about it once, i was looking at this journal in a bookstore made of that stuff, and i was like oo Mommy this is soft! then she told me what it was. i put the book back hurriedly.

message 514: by Savita, I'm NOT giving away Butterbeer. (new)

Savita (haltranger) | 2117 comments Mod
Ew. That's really gross.

message 515: by Emily (new)

Emily (lafillebrigitte) | 742 comments i don't either. thank GOODNESS. i wouldn't want one; it's animal cruelty!! i would however like a fur lined vest. but the fur HAS to be just sheared off the animal, not the whole hide. i want to be HUMANE. why should i be keeping warm with what the sheep GREW to keep warm? i don't even use fake crocodile skin things. i have a purse like that but i don't use it. ever.

message 516: by Miss Silvertongue (new)

Miss Silvertongue (misssilvertongue) | 2006 comments Leather jackets look awesome but most people are in love with the idea of LEATHER jackets... if you get what I mean.

I've seen leather books before! But I assumed it was fake but I suppose you'll never know.........

We wear black leather school shoes... don't we GSGS?

message 517: by GSGS, I'm giving ANYONE Butterbeer. (new)

GSGS | 3406 comments Mod
Do we? I dunno.

message 518: by Emily (new)

Emily (lafillebrigitte) | 742 comments ikr?? it's such a waste! now i was thinking...what if ranchers kept cattle, but when they're sold to the butcher the butcher gives the hides and furs and everything to people who make books, jackets, boots etc... so then there's no waste! waste not, want not!

message 519: by Emily (new)

Emily (lafillebrigitte) | 742 comments better yes. perfect no.

message 520: by Emily (new)

Emily (lafillebrigitte) | 742 comments srsly

message 521: by Amaranta (new)

Amaranta (foreverreader) | 314 comments I don't really like paperback most of the time. I feel like the book can be ruined too easily.

message 522: by Diabolical Daemonic , Friendly fire – isn’t (new)

Diabolical Daemonic (DemonicAngel) | 1920 comments Mod
Only really old books are made with parchment (animal hide), modern books use different material 'cause its to expensive to use animal pelts. I looked it up on google, so unless the article I read is lying, then I'm correct.

message 523: by Savita, I'm NOT giving away Butterbeer. (new)

Savita (haltranger) | 2117 comments Mod
Ai, what'd I miss?!

Not much.

message 525: by GSGS, I'm giving ANYONE Butterbeer. (new)

GSGS | 3406 comments Mod
We're talking about leather, I thinks.

message 526: by Miss Silvertongue (new)

Miss Silvertongue (misssilvertongue) | 2006 comments I prefer Hardcover books but, for example Harry Potter, I like each book to be the exact same version in a series...

message 527: by Emily (new)

Emily (lafillebrigitte) | 742 comments i agree. in both, i like hard cover (paperback bends too easily) i like books to be the same style in a series.

message 528: by GSGS, I'm giving ANYONE Butterbeer. (new)

GSGS | 3406 comments Mod
But with hardcover, they're heavier. But yes, paper back is easier to damage...

message 529: by Emily (new)

Emily (lafillebrigitte) | 742 comments heavier is better. it gives a more satisfying snap shut.

message 530: by GSGS, I'm giving ANYONE Butterbeer. (new)

GSGS | 3406 comments Mod
But that means you've finished it!!

I really really really like the smell of books. And newspapers and magazines. My sisters think I'm crazy, and I'm sure more than one person has been thinking that I'm hiding drugs in the pages of my book...

message 531: by Emily (new)

Emily (lafillebrigitte) | 742 comments not necessarily. you could snap it in someone's face!

me too! especially old musty ones!

message 532: by GSGS, I'm giving ANYONE Butterbeer. (new)

GSGS | 3406 comments Mod
Hmm. Haven't tried that one before. I generally just throw the book, it's easier.

Yes!! And there are different smells for different books!! But I don't like the smell of library books, they smell like the food people have eaten while reading it. Gross.

message 533: by Emily (new)

Emily (lafillebrigitte) | 742 comments but it would damage the book!! you book-disrespecter!!

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew!!!!!!!!!!! it's NASTY! i try not to smell library books.

message 534: by GSGS, I'm giving ANYONE Butterbeer. (new)

GSGS | 3406 comments Mod
Hey, I seriously respect books. I make sure that it's a hardback book I throw, because the whole point of a book having a hard cover is so that it is protected when people throw it. The only paperback book I ever would throw would be... you guessed it... Twilight.

It's yuck.
I seriously oppose e-books. As well as the fact it a. puts book dealers out of business b. is updating something which is awesome anyway you miss out on the lovely book smell! You know, some idiot decided that to make up for it, you could have little spray-bottles of 'book perfume'. Hello? You can't replace the smell of books with PERFUME!

message 535: by Miss Silvertongue (new)

Miss Silvertongue (misssilvertongue) | 2006 comments E-books are good when you're desperate. :) Or when you can't be bothered to go out and find the book (I read the life of Bree Tanner online because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about).

Oooohh yes, some books do smell nice. It also keeps you reading. In conclusion, books can be like drugs. :) Good drugs.

message 536: by GSGS, I'm giving ANYONE Butterbeer. (new)

GSGS | 3406 comments Mod
Happy drugs!

message 537: by Emily (new)

Emily (lafillebrigitte) | 742 comments ikr? why would anyone ever want a Kindle? books are wireless, and battery-less and they don't give you head ache as fast as staring at a computer screen!

message 538: by Emily (new)

Emily (lafillebrigitte) | 742 comments *glares*
no. it's doesn't smell like a book.

message 539: by Emily (new)

Emily (lafillebrigitte) | 742 comments books smell good.

message 540: by GSGS, I'm giving ANYONE Butterbeer. (new)

GSGS | 3406 comments Mod
Yeah but still. It's not the same experience.

message 541: by Swiftfire (new)

Swiftfire I agree. I've never tried it, but I don't think I would like reading off a Kindle. Turning a page of a book and feeling it with my fingers is much better than pressing a button.

message 542: by Amaranta (new)

Amaranta (foreverreader) | 314 comments I have an e-Reader(Sony's version) it isn't that bad I don't think. There are some books I still want as actually books, but I don't mind using it too.

message 543: by Amaranta (new)

Amaranta (foreverreader) | 314 comments It's out! When did that happen?
