Laura (laurastamps) I was talking to some of my buds at the Amazon boards a few minutes ago, telling them I'm not there much anymore cause I'm trying to make my next book deadline. I told them I'm only at a few places now on the web every day (like GR). But the one place I'm at constantly all day long is Twitter (usually from 12:30pm - 3:00am).

Lots of my followers at Twitter are also at GR. It made me wonder how many members of my GR groups are at Twitter, so I thought I would start a thread about it.

That means if you're at Twitter follow me. I would love to chat books with you there too! We have so much fun talking about romance/erotica novels and our fav book characters and series. Not to mentioning tweeting links to book contests and reviews.

So follow me there if you like. I'm @SexWitch at Twitter: http://twitter.com/sexwitch

And use this thread to tell us your username at Twitter so we can follow you too!

Dina (missdina) | 718 comments Nope, the Twitter bug hasn't bitten me yet. Everyone says it's addictive and I already spend too much time here at GR as it is, LOL.

message 3: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurastamps) Dina, it is verrry addictive. You follow a bunch of people who like the same books you do and you only get 140 characters for a tweet, which means you can talk to a bunch of people at once. Then you see all these great comments going by in your Twitter stream and join in those convos and it is verrry addictive. But major fun!

Dina (missdina) | 718 comments Oh man, that's terrifying! I can see my TBR exploding on my face, LOL. Shawna's 6,000+ TBR would be nothing if I joined Twitter. *shudders*

Auntee | 152 comments Shawna's TBR is 6,000???

message 6: by Laura (last edited Aug 04, 2010 07:48PM) (new)

Laura (laurastamps) It's true, Dina. Plus, all your fav authors are there tweeting...almost every one of them. All the publishers tell their authors to get on there now.

Plus, all your fav characters have accounts there acting like themselves (BDB brothers, Dark Hunters, True Blood, etc.).

Whatever your hobby or biz is there are million of people with the same interests, and Twitter makes it easy to find them with word searches. I know I have this figure wrong but there are something like 200 million people on Twitter and that many or more tweets every day.

There is so much fascinating info and links going through your Twitter stream at any moment that people use the app on their phones so they won't miss anything. Major fun!

That's what she said last month. I imagine it's way over that now.

Laura (laurastamps) Dina, just to verify what I said about authors on Twitter, Lisa Kleypas is there tweeting away about her books with all kinds of interesting tidbits. Here is her page:

Okay, I'm gonna go follow her. See ya! lol

message 9: by Dina (new)

Dina (missdina) | 718 comments Oh boy, I did not need to know that! Now I might have to join Twitter to stalk follow Kleypas.

Laura (laurastamps) Mandy I just got your follow notifcation and sent you a DM at Twitter. When I saw you were also following Lisa Kleypas I thought you were Dina cause people use all kinds of names at sites like those. Thanks for the follow! You are gonna love Twitter. If you have any questions let me know. I'm always happy to help new tweeters!!

message 13: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Glover | 576 comments Thanks Laura! I try to stay "Mandy" throughout. I get confused rather easily! LOL!

So far, I've only got you and LK . . .I'll have to look up some others. Could you shoot me a link or whatever they call it with some others? If you have time?
Thanks!

message 14: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurastamps) Hi, Mandy, I just sent you a DM at Twitter. I'll tell you the easy way to find all your fav authors on Twitter. Go go Google and google them like this "Lisa Kleypas on Twitter." Just insert the name of your fav author and the link will come right up on Google.

If you have any trouble finding some just give me their names and I'll see what I can find out for ya. Have fun!!

Sweet! Thanks! Is this thing sort of like FaceBook or different? LOL!!

message 17: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurastamps) Mandy, it's kinda like Facebook only very different and much much simpler to use. On Facebook you can post on walls. On Twitter you have your profile page (profile button) where only your tweets show up. Then you have your twitter stream where all the tweets the people you are following show up all day long as they come in (home button). You can reply to those tweets by going to the bottom of the tweet...a "reply" button will show up under your cursor. Click on that and the addy of the person will show up in your message box at the top of the page. Then you can type your message to them. You will see the character count so you can keep your message 140 characters.

There is also a retweet button (what we call a RT). When you click on that you can click on the yes botton and it will send that tweet out to all the people following you.

It's a lot of fun when you get the hang of it. Much much simpler to understand and use than Facebook.

On Friday you will see a lot of tweets with #FF in them. That's Follow Friday when everyone lists all the friends of theirs they love to chat with every day. Click on some of those names in my #FF tweets and you can follow them. Most are romance/erotica book addicts and book review bloggers. Following them will get you in on all the book talk on Twitter.

message 18: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Glover | 576 comments oh wow . . .it sounds complicated! Lol! Maybe I can figure it out.

message 19: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurastamps) You can, Mandy. It's really easy. Much less involved than Facebook. The thing is it's just a different way of doing things than Facebook or most social networking sites.

message 20: by Linds (new)

Linds I follow LK on Twitter, she's pretty active on it.

message 21: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurastamps) I notice that, Linds! I just followed her. I don't follow that many authors. LKH is one of the few. But a lot of authors follow me on Twitter. We do have a blast. Yesterday everyone was talking about when an author blogs TMI about personal stuff. Today they are trying to auction me off for 3K/hour. I told them I'm worth twice that. Duh! *falls over laughing*
