Julie C (goldwinger) | 70 comments I had a lot of Lady birds in my garden eating the white fly off the sweet peas which was great. So decided to get a Ladybird house for them to hibernate in. So as per SODS law as soon as it was in place not a single one.

I had to kidnap some from elsewhere. At least there are a few in there ready for the spring!!!!

message 354: by Shelley (new)

Shelley (shelleylea) | 30 comments Can you really put up lady bird houses? I live in Dorset, and I havent seen many at all for years. Not a lot of sparrows either, actually. I lived in Port Talbot a few years ago, and the roofs would be covered by sparrows! Only get a handful where I live now.

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments I live in Dorset and our local garden centre does them. My garden has been full of sparrows until recently and then they all disapeared!

message 356: by Julie C (new)

Julie C (goldwinger) | 70 comments Look on Amazon for the lady bird houses.

message 357: by Alison (new)

Alison (alisonvenables) I get sparrows in my garden along with blue Tits and I have a Robin who comes every year but I also get a sparrow hawk who regularly comes and lands on my hedge we've found lots of feathers in our hedge too

message 358: by Janet (new)

Janet MacLeod Trotter | 16 comments Angela - next time you are driving through Northumberland you need to get out of that car and onto one of the fantastic sandy beaches that we have hidden away! I also live in Northumberland, though my family are originally from Scotland. I was brought up in Durham, have lived in Edinburgh as a student, then Newcastle. In fact the only time I've lived away from the north was on a bus to Kathmandu for a few months in 1976!

message 359: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments I agree ladybirds are much nicer. I have a ladybird house but they have never taken up residence, nor have any birds. Although I guess the cats put them off! Starfish, I am jealous. When we studied Aztecs and Mayans at uni, we were all impressed that a classmate's parents lived there.

Mary Ann | 6 comments I've lived in North London for 45 years, but was born in Liverpool, and I have lived in many places. I'm now thinking of moving again. London isn't really a place with an identity any more. It's hard to feel that you belong.

Said this B4, but for newcomers I am a Liverpudlian - first 18 years there and also the last 18....so that rather symmetrically leaves 18 years in between spent mostly in Leicester - 7 years - and then the rest in that there London.
