Jeff Bilman (jeff_bilman) | 3 comments Hi there,
I'm Jeff, from Perth, Western Australia.
Like many that I can see here, I started writing (in my case middle reader fiction) for my two boys. You'll never guess the target market for my first novel: Super Ninja Alien Robot Monsters.

Once upon a time I did do my own drawings - I used to write and illustrate for a greeting card company back in the 90's - but I went for someone more skilful when it came to the illustrations in my novel.

Look forward to chatting with you all over the next little while.
Jeff

Hi, Deborah. I hear you about the economy. It's hard enough being a writer, let alone one that is trying to pay for the publishing themselves. Hang in there...there are many traditional publishers that don't charge, so I suggest submitting your book that way too :). If you need any advice, we have such an amazing group that tries to help one another. I'd be happy to do a review swap and help you get the word out about your book...that's what this group's mission is...authors helping authors.

Anna Olswanger (olswanger) | 2 comments Hello, I'm new to this group and would like to introduce myself.

I'm a literary agent with Liza Dawson Associates in New York where I specialize in children's books, especially illustrated books. I'm also the author of two children's books: Shlemiel Crooks, based on a Yiddish newspaper article I uncovered about the attempted robbery of my great-grandfather’s kosher liquor store in St. Louis in 1919, and Greenhorn, an illustrated children’s novel about a young Holocaust survivor who arrived at a Brooklyn yeshiva in the 1940s with only a small box that he wouldn't let out of his sight.

You can see my full Goodreads profile at:

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

I am currently participating in a Goodreads Giveaway of Greenhorn . It's a tough story, but many states have mandated Holocaust education, which means kids will need resources about this subject, and the publisher NewSouth Books has made free downloads of a Discussion Guide and Classroom Guide for the book available from its website.

The Giveaway ends on February 17, 2013.

I look forward to being part of this group and following the discussions.

J.m. Wilson | 2 comments Hi, my name is J.M. Wilson, the J, is for Jill. I am a writer and a self published author. I have become a social media butterfly! I have probably gained more IT skills since the launch of my book, The Ruby Ridd Adventures, Otherworld launched, November 2012, than I have actually sold books.
Ruby Ridd is based upon my niece, who when I began writing was just six or seven years old. I used to tell her of a secret race who lived in Lincolnshire, they live in the hills, tunnelled into the Earth and have magical skills only she and I could dream of. Of course then she wanted to meet them. In reality she couldn't, as they are a secret! In the stories I told, she has adventure after adventure.
I have found the hardest thing is to know where to market the book. It is a novel, pitched at 6 to 12 year olds, there are no pictures, so do I market it to parents, who would perhaps need to read it to the younger children.
All hints and tips would be very welcome. Hello and thank you x

Muhammad Salleh (muhammadashrafmohdsalleh) | 1 comments Hi Everyone!

Hope you all are fine there!

I am Muhammad Ashraf, the author of Tubby the Tabby.
I am a local writer and writes mostly children's book.

Tubby the Tabby is my first book as I am starting my adventure in this world of writing and sharing.

About the book:

A Tabby called Tubby is known for his quirky habits. But one day, those habits were no longer seen as Tubby was nowhere to be found...

But there was once,
By choice or by chance,

No bumps were heard,
And that was pretty weird.

Together we questioned,
"What had happened?"

Guess what we had found?
He was no longer around!

For those who would like to support this new author and find more, you can head to:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Muhamma...

You can "liked" the page and place your order there.
The book cost $25 each and will be arriving in March.

Charlene | 1 comments Hello All. I am Charlene and just getting a little more "into" GoodReads after being a member for a long time. Have been distracted by a kidney transplant and my recovery. All is going great. Read EVERYTHING - all genres at least once, but I love literature such as Lewis Carrol's, Jonathon Swift's, even Dr. Seuss where the illustrations are as important as the prose. Also, that the story works on many levels - for children or very politically savvy adults. Social satire or beautiful commentary on life's foibles that children and adults "get." One of my favorite indie authors is Boston Teran. He isn't exactly in the aforementioned category. Just read at his publisher's website about a first book by a young woman author - The Tried and True Tales of Phineas Ichabod Rate - and it IS in the genre I love. Go to: hightoppublishing.com and click on Phineas Competition to see the video. I'm not an Illustrator, but they have a $10,000 prize for the winning illustrator. Going to re-read Gulliver's Travels soon.

Bria Burton (briaburton) | 10 comments Hello, I'm Bria! Pleased to meet you all. I've been on Goodreads for a little while but this is my first time joining any groups. I don't usually read children's lit, but sometimes I read YA. I self-published my first e-book in the Kindle Store. O Brother, What Art Thou? is a fictional short story about my dog and my cat. The story is part of an e-book series called Lance & Ringo Tails. I hope to release a new e-book about their adventures once a month. The story is appropriate for all ages, but targeted for animal lovers 10+. I like to write in many genres, but I never intended to write for a younger audience. It's been really fun and quite a learning experience to self-publish.

It's out in Kindle, PDF, paperback and soon Nook and iPad versions.
