We wrote it because he believed there were not enough books for boys his age to read and enjoy. I wrote it because I thought it was based on Friendship. Dragon Boyz is the fist of a trilogy, so I am working on my second novel now.

Hello everyone, I'm not an author or illustrator but I am a reader. I am a blogger at www.mommywantstoread.blogspot.com I read picture books with my 7 year old son who has multiple learning disabilities. We have a goal of reading at least 100 picture books this summer. I read middlegrade, ya and adult books as well but only picture books and early readers are read to my son. I can't wait for the day when he is able to read all on his own.

We did the same thing with our kids-and research shows that it's beneficial on a number of levels to continue the reading time even after they are old enough to read. So, don't be too quick to abandon this wonderful habit. And, of course, they can read to you, too. Yay for this group!

Hello Melissa,
You're on the right path. I have experience in this area. Put your finger on the words when you read and eventually your son will put his finger on yours, and then he'll not want your finger there anymore. When he starts to read on his own, print a certificate for him. He'll be proud and you'll be proud of him. It's a big event. When he's older he'll still want you to read to him. (9 to maybe 12)
I remember when I was sick once and my son at 10 years, approached me and asked if I wanted him to read the Hobbit or Moby Dick to me. I fell asleep listening to the stories. My son was a late bloomer but he's winning English and Writing awards in High School now.

Hi Jillian: It's so nice to meet you! I enjoy hearing how your book came to be. I have to thank my granddaughter for being my inspiration for the bedtime book I wrote. There's nothing like reading a bedtime story to a child!

My name is Lieve, I live in Belgium but about 4 months a year in Québec, and I just have published two photobooks for children 'Margot krijgt onverwacht bezoek' (dutch, my mothertongue) and 'Margot reçoit une visite inattendue' (french). This last one (french) is still in promotion today, you can get it for free.
Now I am working on the next book, build up on the same base, sort of little enceclopedy, all little facts you can know about the groundhog (Margot in the first books is a groundhog). Maybe after these books are up, I am going to watch out for english translation...
But I am curious to find out what people think about this sort of books.

I began to write as a school teacher who enjoyed sharing my stories, poetry, and song lyrics with the young students in my classes to help them learn important academic lessons while at the same time entertaining them. I have a large collection of material that needs to be published. I will soon be retiring from my day job as an educator and I want to continue to share my writing with children. I don't remember if I introduced myself before. My name is Rebecca Bielawski. I'm an author/illustrator. I was born in New Zealand. I live in Spain where I teach English to Spanish children through storybooks, crafts and play. I now have 7 titles for children under 6 years old. Almost all of them are told in rhyme. 2 have been translated into Spanish and I'm working to translate the 3 books of my nature series to Spanish as well. I currently distribute through Amazon KDP, CreateSpace, Google Play, Smashwords and D2D.

Hi! I am new and a little awkward to social media, but I appreciate the benefit of this site.
I have self-published three children's books, geared for an audience of 4 to 9 year olds. Their titles are: "The Green Tom," "The Yellow Sea Lioness" and "The Orange Chihuahua." The underlying message of all of these books is that it is OK to be yourself, but they each explore that message in a different way. "The Green Tom" illustrates the pointlessness of jealousy. "The Yellow Sea Lioness" teaches kids not to judge themselves by the talents of others. "The Orange Chihuahua" illustrates what can happen when you put on a false face -- a silly pompous one at that! See summaries below:

"THE GREEN TOM" -- Cat and Princess Renna grew up together. Gradually Princess Renna slips away. She is soon to marry Prince John. What is a cat to do? Become a prince, of course! Well . . . . Princess Renna devises and implements a few clever, funny lessons to show Cat that being a tomcat is just fine.

"THE YELLOW SEA LIONESS" -- Near the Channel Islands, off the coast of Santa Barbara, lived Lu-sea, an energetic sea lion pup who loved to sing. But when Lu-sea took music classes in school, she feared singing because her friends seemed more talented than she. Through her life span, Lu-sea did some amazing things. It was at her retirement that Lu-sea realized the influence she had left on so many in her community just by being herself.

"THE ORANGE CHIHUAHUA" -- Amador is an obedient, mild-mannered, and beloved pup by day. At midnight, with the help of his master’s magic slippers, he transforms into Chile, a bold, overconfident braggart. Chile is the life of the parties he starts – or so he thinks. When Amador’s master changes his slippers, there is no magic, and Amador’s disguise is revealed. His true friends assure him that Chile was not all he made himself out to be and that they liked him for who he really was.

I am in the process of searching for a literary agent to get the last two books into animated film production. Wish me luck!

It is my hope to eventually put out a fourth book to illustrate the origins of a bully and what it looks like when individuals to not esteem themselves.

All of my books have age-appropriate literacy activity pages to respond to each story's message in a variety of ways.

Hello, I am hoping to dialogue with kids and other adults who read a lot of children's books. I was a school librarian but am now teaching gifted fourth graders. I am the chairperson for the NM Elementary Level Battle of the Books Title Selection Committee. Every year (this is my 7th year), I have created a balanced list of 20 exceptional books. I have been having trouble finding local people who are able to put time into reading a lot during the school year so I am reaching out to others here on Goodreads to hear their take on the books I am considering for next year's list.
I would love to dedicate time to writing but it looks like that will have to wait until I retire from teaching. :o) Helen
