message 51: by Mandy (new)

Mandy I was one of those who just thought it was okay, didn't live up to the hype for me but I did like the way the story was told.

Kirsty, yikes, you know you are getting old as an actress when you are hired to play the GRANDMOTHER... haa haa.... I remember when Susan Sarandon was the hot little lady wearing nothing but her slip in ROcky Horror Picture SHow!!

message 53: by Kirsty (new)

Kirsty (kirstyreadsandcreates) | 610 comments Yeah but Lori, if I look that good when I'm 60 without having had cosmetic surgery then I'll be VERY happy!

message 54: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Seriously, Susan Sarandon is still one of the most desirable women in Hollywood. Did you see her in Alfie? Point Proven.

message 55: by Lorena (new)

Lorena (lorenalilian) I like that she's perceived as beautiful although she has none of the traits of the "holliwood beauty", not blonde, not supper thin, no surgeries (as far as I know), and her eyes are kind of funny. Still you can't help but look at her wherever she goes, and demands attention just by being. I love her interviews too, she's always so classy and smart. Another person that exhudes that kind of aura is Julianne Moore, IMO.

message 56: by Kirsty (new)

Kirsty (kirstyreadsandcreates) | 610 comments I think Susan Sarandon is stunning, and I agree with Lorena, it's refreshing that she doesn't particularly conform to Hollywood's idea of beauty.

I also love that she fights for what she believes in, something that more celebrities should be using their status to do...

Logan, I agree she looked hot in Alfie... (and that's coming from a straight woman!)

message 57: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Kirsty, I agree. I like the way in which Susan Sarandon uses her celebrity to advance various causes that she feels for. I also like Alicia Silverstone's outspoken support for PETA (even though I often find myself very much disagreeing with PETA). Pretty much the only celebrity I wish would stop getting behind causes is Sean Penn. He just tends to piss people off and turn them away from his causes.

Nancy Nancy, most of my favs are SF/Fantasy also. I'll show you my list if you show me yours.

Logan, see my list of YA favorites under Message 24. I'll bet my list is bigger than yours! (Lorena, are you watching?)

message 59: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Eep! I can pretty much guarantee that your YA list is bigger than mine. Mine would be limited to the His Dark Materials trilogy. I'm going to go start a thread for my favorite SF/Fantasy reads.

message 60: by Nancy (new)

Nancy I haven't read Pullman's books yet, or seen the movie. Is it worth reading?

message 61: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments The books are definitely worth reading. I read them over Christmas and devoured them in only a few days. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I haven't hear much good about it.

message 62: by Nancy (new)

Nancy I'll add them to my list...looking forward to your favorite SF/F reads.

message 63: by Macy (new)

Macy | 155 comments Nancy - definitely check out the Pullman books - they are wonderful! The movie was entertaining but missed most of the points in the book. It was trying to fit so many things in that it ended up being too many scenes with not enough detail or character development.

I read a book when I was 13 called Rogano, by Stephen Knight. I've never been able to find it, but I've never forgotten it.
