You might want to try Costco on Tuesday morning. They often have the latest and at a discount AND you can probably make a breakfast feast from all the free tasting. I had a chessecake sample there a couple of weeks ago, it was so good and my mouth is still yelling at me for not buying it. And my Costco is right by Barnes and Noble if Mockingjay is unavailable.

Cici Haha. I camt wait for it to come out! I'm thinking maybe I won't be able to hold off and wait a week for it to be delivered to me, isn't that ridiculous?

Not ridiculous at all! I feel the same way, unless I am ridiculous, too? No, that COULDN'T be!

Bought it yesterday at Costco (and had a bite of brownie, a sip of Crystal Light, and a small bit of crispy chicken nuggets). Haven't started yet, but plan to this weekend!

The Covers - I was looking at the covers of all three books today. On Hunger Games the bird is entirely trapped inside the circle, on Catching Fire the circle is cut into wedges (like the arena) and the bird is starting to break free, and then on Mockingjay the circle is completely broken into pieces and the bird is spreading its wings. The colors - black, orange, blue - also signify Katniss's progress towards freedom.

Cici Wow, ur very observant! Thx 4 sharing that with us. I also bought it at boorders for 50% off and it kinda made me sad. Because it says on the cover that its the final book of hunger games and I don't want it to end!

OK - I am 100 pages in - Spoiler Alert

The scenes with Gale and Katniss fighting the air attack were totally cool - this just makes me even more on Team Gale, although I have a nasty suspicion he may die saving Katniss. I hope not, Gale and Katniss are alike, they know what each other is thinking and they have a lot in common - very important things in the long term.

Poor Peeta! Stuck in the Capitol as their puppet! I can't wait for him to get rescued and help lead the rebellion!

I really like how district 13 is portrayed as a shallow gene pool with a lot of rules that really have not improved their quality of life - in some ways life in district 12 was much better. This reminds me of a Star Trek The Next Generation episode where the children are kidnapped to add distinction to a gene pool of a genetically engineered society. I am really enjoying this book although I only get through a chapter or two a day.

Cici I was on team gale but in this book katniss doesn't seem inlove with him where in the other books that's where her heart seemed to truley be.. but she's also going through a lot, too. But her and gale seem more like best friends almost siblings. I haven't read very much but I can't wait for the action to kick in, the book seems like its dragging a little.

Cici Ok, I'm halfway into Mockingjay and I'm really enjoying it. Jenn, what do you think of it so far???

I am alsoabout half way through - Spoiler - They just rescued Peeta and he tried to choke Katniss. I really like it and although I hate the way she is always ticked off at Gale, I am even more on his team because he is giving of himself to her even though she is treating him like a doormat. But she better start coming around soon or I will want Gale to find someone who loves AND wants him . . . Like Prim??? Wouldn't that put a twist in Katniss's panties?

Cici I think he's just understanding being there for her when she's. Gone through so much and still is with all the pressure and peeta being hurt so it shows that he really truley loves her.. but yes katniss has been being quite mean to both gale and peeta.. for some reason I though peeta was going to fall inlove with their school friend who was trying to keep the peace between peeta and katniss. Now, I have to say so far. I'm pretty disappointed in the final book of hunger games, the characters also seems to have slightly different personalities from the previous books, which may be because they've all been through some horrid, life changing events, but I'm. Just not into them or the story as much as the other books.. well I still have a few chapters left, hopefully the rest of the story will change my mind about it :)

Cici Well, this book only earned 2 of my stars.. very disappointed. The author totally rushed through all the important parts and the characters were just so different from the other books. And that's it, the last book..

I just finished last night and I am really disappointed, also. The battles were good, although the end with Katniss locked in a room with others deciding her fate with a trial she is not even part of? What the heck?? A cop out! And the way she just let Gale go after treating him like dirt? And I don't buy her and Peeta - not after he tried to kill her a bunch of times - how can she trust him completely after that? Crap.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I just talked to some people at work who read it and they also were disappointed. Maybe we got our hopes up too high??

message 17: by Cici (new)

Cici no the other two books were awesome and honestly this one could've been too. I feel the author was just so disconnected from the book and the characters were also disconnected. I agree with you that Gale and Haymitch were the only two characters that stayed the same. I felt like no emotion when the characters died either because the author wrote it so poorly, it was like wait did someone just die and the characters didnt really feel much emotion. then she hates Gale who would do absolutely anything for her and truley loves her and then in a blink of an eye she's having kids with Peeta, no explaination or how they even got to that point in their lives. It was just horrible. 2 great books and one horribly crap ending. I'm soooo disappointed. Such a waste.
