A Big Promotional Tip Most Authors Overlook!

But the scuttlebutt among bookseller is -- authors don't buy books.
True or False. Of course we buy books. I keep the books (usually hardcovers) I use in my research (fiction or nonfiction). However, in general authors want to sell their own books not purchase other authors' books.
It is a shame because if anyone should understand the importance of buying other authors books it is an author. At friend's book signings I buy 5 copies. One for myself and the others as gifts. Books make great gifts. Remember that at Christmas.
I agree with Stacey-Deane. I do link with author friends and associates.
Example: A fellow author put my hurricane book -- Killer 'cane, cover and all, up on her facebook page and my numbers on Amazon jumped. Of course, that 'jump' probably only represented 2 sales but it was a jump. These 'jumps' have helped keep my book been in print for 8 years!

Wouldn't it be better to give an Amazon gift cert, instead? or, the receipt so they can exchange it for something they prefer. Then, the book is a suggestion, not an obligation.
One mo ting. Generally, I don't sell my eBooks to authors. C'mon, we're all in the same boat -- Broke! If an author is genuinely interested in reading one of my novels, I usually send them a code coupon. What's it cost? If you're self-pubbed, it costs nothing. Return? priceless.

Well said. Thanks. It's tough to get attention, no matter what.
I just relaunched my book trailer on youtube:

Just wanted to remind everyone of the importance of link exchanges with your fellow authors. A lot of authors don't seem to realize what wonderful promotion this can be, especially if you exchange links with folks in your same genre who write the same type of books you do. It's also a plus if you can exchange links with book reviewers (bloggers especially) because you'll get tons of traffic in return.
I am always doing link exchanges with people and I think this is something more authors should pay attention to. It might seem like a "small" step but doing link exchanges with tons of people, that's just more sites for your name and link to be on!
Think of it like this. When you exchange links with other authors, most likely their fans or visitors are gonna click on some of the links they have and this could be you.
Sometimes it's the smallest things you can do that really make the difference. Also, when you have your links in a lot of places, your search engine numbers rise and you're getting your name and website out there more and more.
It does make a difference.
Best Wishes!
