5 Things You May Want to Know About Me

2.) I worked 23 yrs as a registered nurse in an acute care hospital. I retired because of a disability last April.
3.) I really enjoy everything Twilight related. I belong to a Twilight discussion group and have blogged in the past for Twilight fan sites.
4.) Although I'm a real amateur, I've developed an avid interest in photography and crafts involving photographs.
5.) Playing the piano was my passion growing up. I hope to get back into playing now that I have more free time. Practicing takes hours each day (but I found it very therapeutic when did it in the past)

In my limited experience, the best thing for him is doing what you are already doing. Learn, learn, learn! Not just about autism, but about your grandson individually- mannerisms, triggers, etc. But, I'm sure you already know that. :)
I student taught in an inclusion classroom and had two autistic students. I loved them and I wouldn't mind getting my special education certification because they had such an impact on me!

Jan, I also played the piano as a child, although I never was very good at it.
Welcome to the group, ladies!

I have a son who is High Functioning autistic, he's an amazing and bright child, I can only imagine that your grandson is also very bright and has taught you so many things about life you never knew. If you'd like to chat please message me

I don't meant to be rude, but, There is nothing to be sorry for when it comes to a child with Autism. It's not a life ending disease and it shouldn't be thought of as something to be sympathetic over. It's this kind of ignorance that hinders children who have Autism, most people think they are not capable children and they are unable to do the same things that "normal" children do. Don't be sorry that someone was blessed with a child who has autism because honestly children who have autism are AMAZING! Sorry I just really get offended and on edge when people apologize to people with Children who have Autism.
But you're correct in one thing, it's always good to learn everything you can about the spectrum and the mannerisms of a child with Autism.

Thank you for letting me know how you felt and that not all parents are like the two I encountered.

1. I can't deal with not being the best at something. It kills me!!
2. I'm very sensitive. Someone joked with me that I ruined our school band concert because I messed up so much, and I cried for days.
3. I love little kids movies no matter how old I am.
4. I'm a hardcore fan of the band One Direction.
5. I could literally live the rest of my life trying to read every single book ever published.

I love little kids movies too and am emotional (which is sometimes seen as being sensitive).
Yeah when my friends and I get together we watch kids movies all night long.

2. I collect crystal bells, Teddy bears, stamps and books. I have 8 bookshelves in the house stuffed with books. 9 if you count the cupboard I keep my cookbooks in.
3. I love to read, crochet, hook rugs and steal roses from my husbands rose garden because his always grow better than mine do. I also play Pet Society on Facebook and follow some manga online. I have been on the 'Internet' since 1984 before there was one using DIALOG to access US gov databases. I'm a computer nerd.
4. My favorite song is 'Stay' by Shakespeare's Sister. My favorite group is a toss up between Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and ZZ Top. I like all types of music including classical (except rap).
5. My family complains because I have all the Twilight Saga and Harry Potter movies along with Gone With the Wind and Wizard of Oz taking up space on the VCR. I like to watch them over and over.

2. I was born in Norwich and have lived in Manchester, Liverpool, London and India (i'm only 15).

What a dope...I just accidentally deleted my own post that you commented on. Sometimes...okay...most of the time, I am computer challenged. Anyway...as far as the turkey goes, Lisa, I don't recommend it. A fresh caught turkey stinks to high heaven when you gut it, then you have to dunk the foul fowl in boiling water to pluck the feathers, then clean it and cook it. Does it taste like the store-bought? Not even close. Yuck!!!! Give me a Butterball any day. So, see...not so talented. LOL

2. I love theater. I act and do backstage stuff.
3. I bake like a maniac in bursts. My longest stretch was 6 weeks of baking 1 or 2 different things every day.
4. I make jewelry.
5. I read constantly. If I'm not actively engaging another human being then I'm probably consuming written material somehow. I listen to audiobooks in the car, the grocery store, in line at the bank. Then when I'm sitting down I'm probably reading text.

Also, you're job sounds awesome!

Yeah, I have that problem. I joke that the owner should just pay me in gift cards. Though, the publishers do send us free books, which helps with making the bills.

You shouldn't joke. I'll do it!

1) My biggest dream when I was a little girl was to learn how to play the violin. Never came true.

4. I never settle for anything, looks like whatever I can get is never enough.

We sometimes discuss the book, but if someone is having an issue, we discuss that instead. We meet weekly and I really miss my girls when I can't make it. My turn to host this week!! Hot artichoke and green chili dip (requested by my besties every time I host), gingerbread with lemon sauce, and drinks of course!
