Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Welcome, Maranda! My mother used to read up EAP every Halloween. I think I have a CD of his writings somewhere...

Melissa (ladybug) | 1048 comments 1. When ever a package comes in the mail, My brother has a fit because it is likely a "book". :D
2. I am able to work on computers and get them to work, but I absolutly "Hate" being asked what is wrong with my mother's computer. She will ask when there is no way for me to see what is wrong. :D
3. I have an associate degree and degrees for Business, but I am working as a receptionist. :(
4. I absolutly LOVE reading and am a Bookworm. I would die without being able to read and there is just something about books that the Ereaders can't replace. My goal is to have my own Library or Book Store one day.
5. Although I love books and have stories running through my head, I am "unable" to put them on paper.

message 353: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Melissa, my boyfriend is the same way that our brother is. I always get teased for being a nerd when a book arrives in the mail. And then I get to tease him when a new game comes home in his hand! :)

message 354: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Welcome, Melissa! Love the books in the mail illustration, LOL!

message 355: by [deleted user] (new)

1. I call my nook "Nooker"
2. I keep a lot of lists, I have lists of my lists.
3. I never own more than 2 pairs of shoes at a time. The new ones, and the old ones before them.
4. I have never eaten baked beans, I'm too afraid to try them. I do like pinto beans though.
5. My best friend told me her daughter calls pickles, cockles. Every time I read a book with the word "cockles" I take a picture with my phone. I don't know why, but now I have a pretty big cockles collection.

message 356: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Hey, Rebecca! Welcome to the group. I'm glad that my eReader isn't the only one with a name. I named my Sony PRS 600 'Sunny' but I don't go around telling people that because they'll think I'm crazy :p

message 357: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Welcome, Rebecca! Love lists too. ☺

message 358: by Amy (new)

Amy (confessoramy) 1. I am British born but I moved abroad to the Netherlands when I was 19 years old (almost 3 years ago) as my family relocated.

2. I am engaged to a Polish man, we all find this amusing as we are both foreigners settled down in a country in the middle of both our homes!

3. I read aprox 100 pages an hour and it usually takes me no more than 3 days to read a book if I am into it a lot, and that's with working 10 hour shifts at work and running a house too ;)

4. I can't cook for the life of me, just simple things and definitely no baking!

5. I dropped out of university after 6 months to come live in the Netherlands, but I am now enrolled in a language class to learn Dutch and will go on to study further eventually.

message 359: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments I've always wanted to live in Europe. Want to trade lives for ahile? ;)

message 362: by Judy (new)

Judy (jmonhollen) I'll play!

1. I hold a B.A. in History from Washington State University (GO COUGS!) and an M.A. in Military History with a concentration in World War II from American Military University.
2. My husband serves in the United States Army.
3. I'm also an Army brat. My dad served 24 years and retired right before I turned 17.
4. My mother is Korean, and I love that she tries to keep her culture alive through me.
5. I LOVE cooking for others. Food really brings people together!

message 363: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I love to cook too, Judy! Of course, now-a-days I watch Food Network more than I cook.

message 364: by Caitrin (new)

Caitrin (literarydependent) Hmm, 5 things about myself.

1. I play the saxophone. I started on the Alto in the 5th grade and in highschool picked up the soprano as well. My first year of college I tried out the baritone sax. I like them all for different reasons and while the fingerings are the same there IS differences that make them a bit of a learning process. I chose the Sax because Lisa Simpson played it (my Dad was a big Simpsons fan and thus so were we!) But only because I couldn't play the violin at my school.

2. I took hooked-on-phonics to read when I was young because I'd make up stories to go along with the words instead of learning to read. I can still remember hating having to learn the alphabet backwards.

3. I work overnights so I'm awake when most everyone else is asleep. I like it because I'm an introvert anyway but it does make it difficult to attend family functions as I'm sleeping when they happen.

4. I've kept a baby name list since I was young though I'm nowhere near to having a baby anytime soon. Whoever my SO is in the future will be prepared that I will am the be all and end all of baby naming with slight consideration for their feelings on the subject. I cursed recently when someone I vaguely know named their son Declan but I may still use it anyway!

5. I go through cycles. I'll listen to one genre of music for awhile and then I'll suddenly switch to something completely different. I'll be really involved with a website for a time and then something else will catch my attention and I'l spend all my time doing that. The only constant seems to be books. I write reviews for a speculative fictions news and review site but even then I have to make sure I remember to write the review before I read to many other books and thus forget my thoughts.

message 365: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 17 comments 1. I'm Australian-born but have lived in the Netherlands for more than three years.

2. I can speak maybe a dozen words of Dutch (the shame!), but can translate menus and food labels like a native (or better).

3. I can't stand having bare feet. I wear socks at all times (except in the shower/at the beach of course!) and never ever wear flip flops. I've only just recently stopped sleeping with my socks on.

4. I'm not at all technically minded, but I'm gadget-obsessed - I have two e-readers, three iPods, a netbook, a laptop and I'm coveting a tablet like you wouldn't believe....all except one e-reader was bought within 5 minutes of deciding I MUST HAVE IT - NOW!

5. I love any kind of books, but I have a (not-so) secret passion for zombie and post apocalyptic novels - and as I read them I'm constantly picturing myself in that particular scenario and imagining what I would do differently.

message 366: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Welcome, Kat! I love having bare feet! Only indoors though. I love flip flops and hate socks. Hehe.

I love gadgets too. What e-readers do you have?

I want a tablet really bad, also!

message 367: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 17 comments Thanks! Funny huh, my partner is also a bare feet fanatic and doesn't understand my sock fetish.

I have a Cybook and a Sony PRS 600...Cybook is my favorite for reading on, but I prefer the functionality on the Sony. I want a Kindle too but I think kindle for iPod will be the closest I get for a while.

Realllllllyyyyyy hoping Santa brings me a tablet this year!

message 368: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments My boyfriend is like you. Always has socks on or shoes. He claims it is because his feet are always cold, but sometimes I wonder. Lol.

I have a Kindle and love it. Although, I read real books 90% of the time. There's just something about the weight, smell, and physically turning the pages!

You and me both. A tablet would be awesome for Christmas!

I loved VA the best, but only because we were in the middle of family from NJ and NC. We were 2 mins from the ocean, and the people were friendly. I am actually looking forward to living in SD. Schools will no longer be top priority..and I'd like a little property in the countryside..no more suburbs please and thank you :)

message 380: by Vilma (new)

Vilma | 4 comments 1. I was born and grew up on the Island of St Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean. Anyone heard of it? Think of Napolean!
2. I lived and worked on Ascension Island for three and a half years, another tiny island in the South Atlantic Ocean.
3. I now live in Wiveliscombe, a lovely little village in Somerset.
4. I have two daughters who love reading as much as I do and we love having discussions about books.
5. I love books so much, I even have a collection of cook books!

message 381: by Sashana (new)

Sashana #1: I've never heard of it, Vilma. Must research!
#5: If you want, you could take a look a our Favorite Cookbooks topic and share.

message 382: by Harsja (new)

Harsja 1. I'm Indonesian, and live in Jakarta. Both my parents moved here from New York City, as a result I speak (hopefully) perfect English, and less perfect Indonesian.
2.I'm a huge music lover, and listen to music as much as I read.
3. I used to be a fencer in high school, and made it to nationals.
4. My job is my life right now. I work as a manager for local up-and-coming band (will send links if anyone wants, its a pop-rock band).
5. I'm not picky when it comes to genres, as long as I click with the characters and the author's writing style, I'm a happy camper.

message 384: by Sharon (last edited Dec 20, 2011 02:48PM) (new)

Sharon (teeitup46) | 52 comments 1. I'm an original "Okie from Muskogee".

2. I have friends that I have known since high school and new ones met at church over 30 years ago and we still get together on a regular basis for birthdays and just to hang out. Can't beat great friends.

3. I've always had a competitive streak and find it runs even through my favorite hobbies ~ reading, computer games and challenges (trivia, word games), X-stitching and golfing. Just not enough hours in the day to do all the things I love and sometimes I feel "overwhelmed" by the myriad of things I try to accomplish, besides working FT(:

4. I've been a good mom, excited grandmother and now I'm
learning to be a dutiful daughter again since I moved my parents into asst'd living in my town 18 mos ago. Lots to do and that may explain being "overwhelmed" in #3 above but OMG, the blessings I'm getting from just getting to know them as "people" instead of parents. They are both 87, health pretty good for their age and funny!!! They also tell me how much they appreciate what I'm doing for them and that is the best gift they could ever give me now.

5. I've worked in accounting all my life so tend to be very organized. Because in accounting, everything has to balance, I've lived that way in other areas of my life, which sometimes is great and other times a curse. I'm seeing similar traits/interests in my kids and grandkids which is kinda neat to understand how much genetics plays a part in our lives.

6. I've been a member of Shelfari for years and participate in a few challenges there so look forward to checking out some on Goodreads.

message 385: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Vilma- I remember learning about the Island of St Helena and Ascension island in my college geography class. It was more of a "find these on the map" deal, but I wanted to learn more so researched a little. Awesome, I must say!

Harsja- A fencer. That is so cool! I love unique things like that. :)

Sharon- I bet it is overwhelming, but it is cool to see your parents differently now. I think it is a good thing!

message 386: by Voula (last edited Dec 21, 2011 11:08AM) (new)

Voula (otl1987) (otl1987) 1. My eternal love is a horse, Orlanda, followed closely by my other horse, Touche.
2. As a kid I was always the only one to get excited when my presents were books.
3. I/m a lazy perfectionist. Meaning, I am almost never satisfied with what I do, but on the way of doing it better, I get bored. Maybe I read a book!
4. When I 'm able to make my own home, I want a room in which there will be no walls showing. Just shelves with endless books.
5. Even though I have a job that I like very much, a family that I love, friends that I would never trade for anything in the world, I still feel that I haven't figured out what to do in life.

So, that's me! Nice meeting you!

message 387: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Walls of books...sounds like the best plan to me. Will you need a roommate?

message 388: by Voula (new)

Voula (otl1987) (otl1987) Rachel wrote: "Walls of books...sounds like the best plan to me. Will you need a roommate?"

Hahaha! Move to Greece, and I'll think about it!

message 389: by Laura (new)

Laura (lglovett) | 1444 comments 1. I have only been a member of good reads for about two weeks but I am already addicted.

2. I am a hopeless romantic and a sap. I cry over movies and books like I know the people in them. Even when the scenes aren't really that big of a deal.

3. I am hopelessly unorganized. The more I try to be the less I am.

4. I am addicted to the Sims games, even though I am 28 years old. I don't know why, but its something about the creative process I think.

5. I can't stand a lot of the "classics." I read Pride and Prejudice and hated it. I have tried to force myself to read them since being out of school and it is extremely difficult for me.

message 390: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Otl1987 wrote: "Rachel wrote: "Walls of books...sounds like the best plan to me. Will you need a roommate?"

Funny you say that, I've always wanted to live there. :)

message 391: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Laura- I cry at movies, TV, books, real life situations and the list goes on. Happy times, sad times, when I feel sorry for characters/people. I can't help it. Lol.

I'm not much of a classic reader either. I've tried, but most of the time just can't do it.

message 392: by Laura (new)

Laura (lglovett) | 1444 comments well at least I am not alone in my crying jags. At least I haven't seen the Folger's commercial that makes me cry yet this Christmas season.

message 393: by Sashana (new)

Sashana *raises hand* Alright! I confess! I have no control over my tear ducts either. It can get embarrassing sometimes.

message 394: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (morgzsydney) | 31 comments 1. I have an enormous fear of heights
2. I want to be a brain doctor of some sort when I get older.
3. Giving me coffee is both an amazing and horrible idea for my energy levels.
4. I have always wanted to travel to Australia.
5. My favorite school subjects are science and english. I am a contradiction.

message 395: by Laura (new)

Laura (lglovett) | 1444 comments Morgan, my favorite subjects were History and Science, but I also loved English because I could read in that class and not get in trouble. I could care less for grammar though. I guess I am somewhat of a contradiction myself.

message 396: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (morgzsydney) | 31 comments Laura, i agree about the grammar! Go contradictory people! Did you ever get a definitive result from left vs right brain test? I never do.

message 397: by Laura (new)

Laura (lglovett) | 1444 comments Nope, they also never placed me with a definitive job when they did the career test thing either.

message 398: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (morgzsydney) | 31 comments Laura, mine always actually place me with medicine for career. And that is actually what I want to do! But i have gotten some weird ones....

message 399: by Laura (new)

Laura (lglovett) | 1444 comments They had me as a gardener or a garbage truck person, lol. I ended up teaching Science.
