2) I am hoarder of books and things- objects always concerned may need them later

3) I have always wanted to ride a hot air balloon and parchute since I was a young child but in my teens suddenly developed a fear of heights

4) My hair is turning white and now wondering do I GO WITH IT OR start dying

5) I love the idea of traveling but couldn't do it on my own

message 257: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments My mom always said she would color her hair until she turned 50. She has one more year to go!

Traveling is amazing. Hope you decide to go one day.

message 258: by Sashana (new)

Sashana My mom is a firm believer in appearing to be young even on your death bed so she plucks her grey hairs and she dyes her hair.

Have you traveled much, Rachel and Afsana?

message 259: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments I have. All over the Caribbean and the United States and the tip of South America. Haven't made it any further, but I will!

message 260: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) | 219 comments I have been to germany, belgium, paris, new york/new jersey, been to canada, Bangladesh

they say for everyone you pluck 6 grow back

message 261: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Jealous :/.I always have this fear of being kidnapped in South America. I don't know why. I would love to back pack through Southeast Asia and Europe. Australia would be good too. I would go to certain countries by myself but others not so much.

message 262: by Sans (last edited May 02, 2011 08:54AM) (new)

Sans Afsana, I decided to colour my hair only if it goes grey. If it goes white, I'm letting it go. I'd like to try traveling on my own too, but I don't think I could do it. Day trips, sure! But going to another country by myself? That scares me a bit.

Sash, your fear is one of the reasons I haven't traveled south of the Californian border. ^o^ I wanted to do a backpacking/walking tour in Scotland. Travel as many places as possible by walking or taking the train if it's just too far to get there in a day.

message 263: by Lina (new)

Lina 1) I was born in South America, married an Englishman and have 3 young Australian children :-)
2)I have no middle name
3) I have 5 surnames
4) Even though we've been living in our current home for 5 years, I have moved a total of 36 times.
5) I'm getting addicted to GR, I'm either on here checking out new books, reviewing read books, or just generally chatting about books :-)

message 264: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments CaroB! Great, you made it! GR's PM is not working so I posted a message on your profile page.

message 265: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Welcome, CaroB! Moved 36 times??!! *shudder* I thought three times was bad. I hate moving! :)

Lina Rachel wrote: "Welcome, CaroB! Moved 36 times??!! *shudder* I thought three times was bad. I hate moving! :)"
haha! I used to think I had it down to a fine art... as much as anyone can with something that chaotic... then I had my first child and we moved to our current home when she was 8 months old... *shudder* is right... moving with kids is a whole different ball game! I think we're staying put now for a while, lol!

Lina Lisa Kay wrote: "CaroB! Great, you made it! GR's PM is not working so I posted a message on your profile page."

I saw that Lisa, thanks so much for inviting me here!

message 268: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments I have no kids and moving is still chaotic around here! Next month we will be moving back to my hometown, 4 hours away. Just like you, I plan on staying put for awhile after that!

message 269: by Sans (new)

Sans Shoot, and I thought my 6 times moving was bad. Glad to have you here, CaroB!

wow sounds an intersting life? your family in the armed forces?

and what about the 5 surnames?

message 271: by Lina (new)

Lina Thanks Sans!
Afsansa - no, my family wasn't/ isn't in the armed forces, just a LOT of moves :-) I know people who lived in the same house up until they got married and then moved just a few suburbs away and that spins me out... this is my normal, I guess!

As for the surnames, two from the mum, two from the dad, to distinguish exactly which branch of the family you belong to. Plus my married name :-) Here in Australia, I only use my married name for most things, though my passport still has them all.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments CaroB. Wow! Quiet a mouthful then?

Lina Lisa Kay wrote: "CaroB. Wow! Quiet a mouthful then?"

LOL Lisa, you can see how a short nickname like CaroB has so much appeal :-)

message 274: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenlr) Hi I'm new here so I thought this would be a good way to introduce myself :)

1. I finally bought really nice bookshelves a couple months ago and ever since I've been completely obsessed with buying books. I partially blame Borders going out of business sales and the used book store within walking distance of my house!

2. I have 4 tattoos (the discussion up further made me think of this one) and once I can stop spending all of my money on books I plan on getting another one!

3. I had braces as an adult and although I love the results I hated every minute of having them!!!!

4. I spend WAY too much time on goodreads, my blog and all of the blogs that I follow! I've made new friends so I think it's definitely worth it!

5. I am a big list maker. My favorite list is my Bucket List which has some pretty ambitious things on it. Mainly a lot of traveling since I LOVE to travel!

I'm sure I could come up with more, but there's my five. Look forward to checking out the rest of the group and chatting!

message 275: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Welcome JenLR, CaroB, & Afsana. I look forward to discussing books with you.

message 276: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Welcome JenLR! Within walking distance? Oh my...that would be bad news for me! :)

I think we all spend too much time on GR, but it is so worth it.

message 277: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenlr) Thanks for the welcomes Lisarenee & Rachel.

Yeah, the bookstore is REALLY close...less than a block! It's so bad...and so cool at the same time lol.

message 278: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Hehehe. I am thankful that the library is closer to me than any bookstores, yet I still find myself at the bookstore a lot. I've gotten to where I don't even take money with me anymore. It is way to dangerous for a poor college girl.

message 279: by Sashana (last edited May 14, 2011 10:44AM) (new)

Sashana JenLR wrote: "Yeah, the bookstore is REALLY close...less than a block!"

Welcome to the group, Jen! Talk about having temptation right at your door steps. If I had a bookstore that close I don't know how I would function. I would walk around permanently broke :D

message 280: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenlr) I'm just glad it's a used book store and not one that only carries new. They have a new books section, but I try to stay away from it (notice I say 'try'). It doesn't help that the new and sometimes more popular books are right by the register. I'm such an impulse buyer!

message 281: by Lina (new)

Lina Welcome JenLR. What are your tattoos of? i love tattoos, but I've never had the guts myself.

message 282: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenlr) Thanks CaroB

One is kindof a butterfly, one is a crescent moon with a face and earring, one is a playboy bunny head and one is the grim reaper...

I don't regret any of them but I am kind of indifferent to the first three. I really like my grim though! It's always interesting to see peoples reactions to my tattoos.

The next one I want to get is mostly black/grey flowers with some of the flowers in a fuschia-ish color. It's kindof artsy and I think that's why I like it so much.

message 283: by Lina (new)

Lina I like the sound of the grim and the crescent moon :-)

message 284: by Noel (new)

Noel (istop4books) 1. I read in English and Spanish
2. I love to cook
3. I love to travel, whether to Paris France or Frankfurt, Kentucky -- I enjoy small towns and backroads, country, city, small towns, ocean or mountains - love them all.
4. I hang out with my 2 dogs and let them sleep on my bed
5. I've worked really hard to have a solid family with a 32 year marriage and 3 wonderful boys, something I didn't have growing up.

message 285: by Rachel (last edited May 21, 2011 12:22PM) (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments That's so cool you can read in Spanish. I assume that means you can speak it too. I might be coming to you for Spanish help next semester. ;) I love to travel too. I have yet to make it outside of the US and the Caribbean, but I will one day.

I think it is great that you have a wonderful, solid family and home. I did not have that growing up either and even though I do not have any kids yet and just a boyfriend of 5 years, we work really hard at this already. He did not have a great home life either, so we strive to make ours better. I think it is great when we can turn the tables and make it better than we had it! More power and much thanks to you!

Welcome to the group, Istop4books! Love the name too. Hehe.

message 286: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (faithia_firestar_238) | 2 comments 1) I love to sing and cook
2) My Favorite book series is the Night Huntress by Jeaniene Frost
3) I AM COMPLETELY RANDOM
4) I own about 50 bunny rabbits
5) I read about a book a day ;}

message 287: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Hello, Elizabeth! 50 rabbits? Oh my! I always had rabbits when I was a kid, but just one at a time. Lol. I enjoyed them a lot. Welcome to the group!

Thanks! I want to get some variation of "To thine ow..."

I actually have "To Thine Own Self Be True" on the inside of my left wrist. It's in script and I love it. The place where I work has a policy against visible tats so this one is perfect. Only seen if I want it to be. I also have a panther on my butt LOL!!

message 289: by [deleted user] (new)

Five things about me...well I'm not THAT interesting.

1. I have a very self deprecating sense of humor.
2. My hair will be white by the time I'm 30 because I dye and style it differently every 2-3 months.
3. I have a big family.
4. I have alot of blonde moments, even when I'm a smart hair color, like brown.
5. I eat/drink more than anyone, and will eat anything. My stomach is a bottomless bit that begs for food at every moment. Even expired milk and sushi.

message 290: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kielianne) | 940 comments Ok well here goes nothing:

1) I'm a 23 year old post-grad college student (beginning a Communicative Disorders Assistant program in Sept)

2) I am also a certified elementary school teacher (just graduated so no job yet) and love me some cute kiddies. (Especially ones I can send home to their parents at the end of the school day, heh)

3) My current (rather obsessive) hobby/interest is genealogy, specifically researching my own family tree. (which now can be traced back to about 800AD) Though I do dabble in researching for other people too...

4) Currently live in Canada, but I'd love to move to England someday (this is where my grandparents were originally from before moving across the pond).

5) My favourite book/story as a child was about a mouse and his magical set of paints. Anything he painted would become real (e.g. a painting of a pair of pants would become a real wearable pair of pants, etc.). I wished I had a set of paints like the mouse...

message 291: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Hey, Kristen! Welcome to the group. I think it's great that you can track your family that far back. I don't even know who my great grandmother is. And in one case my grandmother.

message 292: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments So true, Sashana. I only know as far back as my great-grandmothers. One of who I got to spend eight wonderful years with before she died. I've decided I don't want to know any farther back. I would always wonder what kind of people they were, what they looked like, what did they do throughout their lives. Putting a name to my ancestors and not knowing anything about them is worse than not knowing at all to me.

message 293: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I had a second cousin who checked out our family tree. Turned out I had two great-great-great-grandfathers; one from the South that defied convention and fought for the North, and one from the North that fought for the South. Gee, explains a lot. No wonder I am such a rebel. It also brought home the fact that in that war they were really fighting brother against brother.

message 294: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I would love to trace my family back. I don't know how to go about doing so though. It's be cool to see where everyone came from. Even simple things like names would be good.

message 295: by Keely (new)

Keely Sinclair (perksofbeinga) | 3 comments Hey everyone, I am new here.
1.) I don't really read modern books, however I am open to suggestion.
2.) I have extremely severe trust issues.
3.) Reading to me is as nessacary as breathing.
4.) My favourite books include Wuthering Heights, The Perks of Being A Wallflower and The Catcher In The Rye.
5.) I read Wuthering Heights once a year, every year. I have been doing this since I was seven.

message 296: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Welcome to the group, Keely! You'll fit in well here because we have a group of eclectic readers. Something for everyone. Wuthering Heights is pretty heavy stuff for a 7 year old. I read P&P in the 4th grade and I didn't understand any of it.

message 297: by CαthεεBooks (new)

CαthεεBooks (catheehales) 1. I LOVE BOOKS (LOL)
2. I want to write a book and publish it before I am 25 years old.
3. I love to swim.
4. I like school and have good grades!
5. I love the Harry Potter serie, the Twilight Saga and the Hunger games (didn't read mockinjay yet)

message 298: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Keely- I am with you on your number three. I read Wuthering Heights a few months ago. I am 24 and still had a hard time with some of it. I had to reread some parts. I would love to give it another go soon.

Catheebooks- I love to swim and I always thought I wanted to write a book. I found out that I like to edit other people's work more than write. Being an editor is still one o my dream jobs!

It took me three times to get through it, but when I set my mind to something, I achieve it. My parents have a joke that I read every book written in the Romanticism era before I was 13 :)
