Which authors/books remind you of Anne Stuart, or ones you'd recommend to a fan of hers?

message 2: by Arch (new)

Arch | 91 comments I don't know of any authors that writes like Anne Stuart, at least as of right now.

I would recommend her fans to read her Ice Series. I have only read Fire and Ice and Black Ice so far. I can't wait to read the rest.

message 3: by CaliGirlRae (new)

CaliGirlRae (rae_l) Same here. I'm drawing a blank as to who writes like Anne Stuart. If you guys find any similar authors, I'm definitely interested.

One of my GRs friends (who I invited) suggested Karen Rose, who writes romantic suspense. I haven't read her yet, but I have Don't Tell in my pile.

message 5: by Love love (new)

Love love | 44 comments Now I have only read a few of Anne Stuarts books but to me the only other author that I have read that reminds me of Anne Stuart is Linda Howard ***ducking head*** LOL She's my favorite author and have read soooo many of her books, when I first started reading 'Black Ice' I thought "wow, I feel like I'm reading one of Linda Howard's books". That's when I know I was going to be hooked on Anne Stuart.
I have also read many Karen Rose's books and I do really like her but her H's arent the same kind of badboy, anti-hero, Gamma guy....however you want to say it, but still really good romantic suspence.

message 6: by CaliGirlRae (new)

CaliGirlRae (rae_l) Ooh! Thanks guys. I'm going to check out some Karen Rose and Linda Howard books. :-D

Hi Rae. If your going to try Linda Howard and havent read anything by her, you should REALLY try her book Cry No More by Linda Howard . IMO, it's really good and has a great alpha hero.

You might fall in love with Linda Howard's character, John Medina. That's my Linda Howard's hero.

message 9: by Eastofoz (new)

Eastofoz | 11 comments In terms of dark heroes the closest I've come to is Anna Campbell. She does a historical version of the sob :)

Niice! Thanks Noelle, I was wondering where to start with LH's books. This sounds like a great intro! :-)

What familiar hero would you liken him to, Arch?

Arch | 91 comments Rae wrote: "What familiar hero would you liken him to, Arch? "

I think that Jock from Killer Dreams by Iris Johansen and John Medina are similar. To me they are both a mystery. They stand out without even trying to stand out.

message 13: by CaliGirlRae (new)

CaliGirlRae (rae_l) Hmm, I haven't read Killer Dreams but I'll check it out.

message 14: by Arch (new)

Arch | 91 comments Rae wrote: "Hmm, I haven't read Killer Dreams but I'll check it out."

Jock is the secondary hero. He stood out to me more than the first hero. I was interested in Jock. The main hero didn't do anything for me. Thank goodness Jock kept my attention. He's not in the book a lot, but enough to grab my attention.

I second the Cry No More rec. Diaz is definitely Anne Stuart bad boy caliber.

message 17: by Cindi (new)

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) | 15 comments No one writes like Anne Stuart!!! I would say Karen Rose is the closest I've found, but AS is just AS and that's all there is to it!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 347 comments Mod
That's true. That's why it's sad when I run out of AS books. Which Karen Rose books would you recommend to start with? I have Don't Tell.

message 19: by Cindi (new)

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) | 15 comments Lady D, I'll get back to you on which books. I need to go back and think about it. I started with her 4th book, Nothing to Fear, and was hooked from there. Her earlier books are all stand-alones but the last 5 or 6 really should be read in order. *shudder* Her recent books are just so chilling, much like Anne's.

Othena I'm glad to see the Karen Rose recs. I've got Scream for me in my tbr. yeah

message 22: by Nilofer (new)

Nilofer (nilofers) | 29 comments I haven't read Karen Rose but I've tried a couple by Linda Howard and really liked them. So far I've read Killing Time (loved the sf storyline) and Cover of Night. They do have tight suspense, and strong heroes, not to mention strong heroines too.

message 23: by Bekah (new)

Bekah (bekah317) | 7 comments cry no more is a GREAT book, and Diaz...Wow... I actually haven't read a lot of AS, but she really does stand out for you. So far I really really loved Richard Tiernan from Night Fall

I need to reread Night Fall. Since some of my trusted book-friends love it so much--I think that it deserves a second look from me. I read it a long time ago. Time to revisit it.

I agree with you about Diaz. He rocked my world.

I'd tentatively suggest Christine Feehan for Anne Stuart fans. She has the intensity in her books, the strong connection between the H/h, and the edgy/dangerous heroes. Her writing style is quite different from AS, but that power in her love stories does make me think of Anne.

message 26: by Nilofer (new)

Nilofer (nilofers) | 29 comments Has anyone read Nalini Singh? She writes pnr. Her H in Angel's Blood (first in the Guildhunter series) is dark and mysterious and gorgeous - he goes from being the anti-hero to a full-fledged good guy, the tension between the H/h is very taut, the love scene between the two burns right off the page, and the h is really well-written. Its the only book of hers I've read, and the intenseness of the book reminded me of AS...although there can be only one.

I love Nalini Singh. She definitely has the dangerous hero/intensity thing going on like Anne Stuart.

message 28: by willaful (new)

willaful | 45 comments Karen Robards has bad boy heroes, though her writing doesn't do it for me like Stuart.

I just read Angels' Blood, and I could definitely see an Anne Stuart edge with Raphael.

message 30: by Nilofer (new)

Nilofer (nilofers) | 29 comments Yes, I loved Raphael's character! I believe she's already come out with the sequel, and a third book's due out soon - the second - Archangel's Kiss, is a continuation of the same characters, which is unusual.

Most definitely. Very intense but satisfying read.

I hope NS writes about the other angels and some of the vampires (like Dmitri). I'm enamored with Illium. :)

You might enjoy Skin Game (Skin, #1) by Ava Gray . It has the dark romance appeal of AS's books.

message 34: by willaful (new)

willaful | 45 comments I just read Only A Whisper by Gayle Wilson and think it would appeal to people who like Stuart. The heroine is a federal agent kidnapped by a mysterious Colombian because of her involvement in a drug operation. Suspenseful, though not super dark.

I read two books this week with heroes that read like Anne Stuart heroes. Well, one of them isn't exactly a hero. He's more of an unknown quantity. That's Rhyzkahl from Mark of the Demon by Diana Rowland. This guy is like an Ice series hero times 1000.

Whereas, Valek could have easily been in an Anne Stuart book. Dangerous, clever, and completely made into putty by the woman who claims his heart (but only putty in her hands). He's in Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder.

Othena Mark of the Demonlooks interesting to me. thanks Lady Daneille
