This was a brilliantly written book. A truly insightful bildungsroman. I loved the characters and their respective journeys, especially Johnny's journey to faith, and I also really liked the elements of mystery in the plot. There were quite a few truly insightful statements in the novel. However, this is not a Christian novel in the sense of being a clean read. The author isn't a person of faith and although his characters are, they are also real people who after not clean and idealized--the characters use a lot of bad language, make a lot of sexual comments and jokes, and smoke and drink too much. I really loved it though--it's a truly great read.

I'm reading the series Amish of Apple Grove by Lori Copeland and Virginia Smith. I have read The Heart's Frontier #1 and A Plain and Simple Heart #2. They both great books and I can't wait to start A Cowboy at Heart #3. This series you will want to read in order. I give books #1 & #2 both 5 stars ★★★★★

This was a great book; even though it's unfinished, it's written so well, the characters are excellently portrayed, and the story is lovely. You can also see where the story will end up thanks to the original editor's note. I really loved it.

I have just finished the 3rd book in the series Lancaster County Secrets each of them you can read as i feel they more stand alone ones as apart from where they are set that it you do have some people from the 2nd book mention in the 3rd but even if you had not read the 2nd it wouldn't make any difference i really enjoyed the series

This was a somewhat interesting fiction novel based on a period in the author's life where he went on a journey-it is bpth physical and spiritual- following a false diagnosis of lung cancer. There is not ay character development, and the few characters are referred to mainly by pronouns or descriptions of titles. There is no real plot, but there are multiple stories, many of which are unfinished vignettes. There is also no indication of which storylines are real and which of them are his fantasies; he even has a chapter where he talks about this fact and that he feels it doesn't what is real or not because he doesn't really know either. There are, however, quite a lot of folk songs and cultural traditions portrayed in some of his vignettes that are quite interesting. A lot of the novel is philosophical in nature, talking of Buddhist and Daoist ideas. He also plays a lot with the structure and nature of language as well as the typical expectations for fictional narratives.

This is such an amazing novel. It is written very well. I love the narrator and the development of the characters, and the story line is good if sad in places. Definitely a new favorite.

This was a brilliantly written fantasy novel. The characters are well portrayed, and I really enjoyed the plot. It was exciting and emotional. I really loved it, another new favorite.

I started "Eyes Wide Open" by Andrew Gross last night. So far not really into it. On my Kindle I have "A Bride for All Seasons: A Mail-Order Bride Collection" each novella is by a different author. Also on my Kindle is "The Tomato Patch" by Sarah Price. So far not one of them is making me want to read and read till the story is done.

i just finished the Discovery Saga by Wanda Brunsetter. It was very good it was kinda of annoying that it was broken into so many 60-80 page segments but over all i did enjoy the story!

This was a well-written and entertaining YA fantasy novel. It is a prequel to The Blue Sword. Both books have a somewhat slow beginning but have high action crises near the end. I preferred the characters in The Blue Sword, but I preferred the plot and ending of this novel. Overall, a fun read.

This was a well-written Amish romance. This second novel in the Forever After in Apple Lake series surpassed the first in my opinion. It was as emotional as the first novel, and the characters were well drawn. In this novel, however, the crisis between the protagonists was a lot more believable. This is definitely a new favorite.

This was a highly intriguing fictional account of Judas Iscariot and what shaped his character and decisions. It was fairly well-written despite a few grammatical issues. According to the author's note, it seems well researched and thought through, but it is definitely fiction, and she left in some of the mysteriousness that Scripture lends to Judas; even though I don't agree with her assessment of Judas' motives in handing Jesus over to the Sanhedrin, it was an interesting idea.

I have read this series before in book form but now i have a Kindle i have got it in a trilogy, i actually made a mistake & downloaded this instead of another one but i didn't mind as i am enjoying reading it again & i can't remember all of it anyway

This was a brilliantly written fantasy novel. The characters are well portrayed, and I really enjoyed the plot. It was exciting and emotional. I really loved it, another new favorite. It took me longer to be as invested in the characters than it did with the characters of Graceling, and I was expecting an actual sequel, rather than a companion novel; however, I ended up enjoying Fire very much.

I sat for about 5 minutes trying to find it in different folders until I finally found it. @Diane U: This is kind of unrelated, but I was just looking through this group's bookshelf. I discovered that I looks you did group reads for most of Wanda E Brunstetter's books back in the summer of 2010. I have also discovered there is basically no way to get archives for discussions that old. Is it possible that Rachel Brand added all the books by that author to the shelf only because they are considered Amish fiction? Is it still safe to nominate the first book in her Indiana Cousins trilogy. Just curious. Thanks for the clarification.

Hi Natalie, we have plenty of books on our bookshelves that weren't group reads. The only ones we've done group reads for will be on the "group-reads" shelf here:

We didn't do any group reads prior to October 2010. We have 237 books on our shelves and only 66 on the group-reads shelf, so not all the books in our group bookshelves were group reads. In the beginning, we just added a lot of Amish books so people had an idea of what books this group was discussing.
