Rachel Kate's Song (Forever After in Apple Lake #1) by Jennifer Beckstrand 5/10/13 5 stars
After a slow buildup, this novel really takes you for a fun and somewhat suspenseful ride. I kept wondering if things would actually work out in the end and was so glad when they did. The novel is written very well and is now a favorite. I will definitely be seeking out the rest of the series. For an Amish novel, this one had a more complex plot than I'm used to seeing, and I really enjoyed the intricacy of this author's writing style.

I really enjoyed this novel. It's well written and entertaining, and I had no idea that it was the second in a series until now. It stood on its own very well.

J.E.B. Spredemann (jspredemann) | 170 comments Rachel wrote: "Some books that I really enjoyed we're the Indiana Cousins series by Wanda Brunsetter and I would consider re-reading those... Are there any really good Amish books that anyone would recommend to me?"

I love all of Cindy Woodsmall's books, especially the Sisters of the Quilt series. Note that you should have a box of tissues handy because you WILL cry! Her Ada's House Series is good as well.
Another favorite of mine is Kelly Long. Sweet romances! Lilly's Wedding Quilt is my favorite, but all in that series are good. She has a book with three novellas called A Marriage of the Heart. That is good as well.
Tricia Goyer's Beside Still Waters and others in that series are good.
Shelley Shepard Gray's series The Caregiver, The Protector, and The Survivor are good.
Beverly Lewis' Abram's Daughters series.
I could probably go on forever, but I won't. If you need any more ideas, let me know!

Hi Natalie. I've been reluctant to read Jennifer Beckstrand's books because of her Mormon religion. Is there any hint of Mormon doctrine mixed in her novels that you know of?

Natalie, I'm so pleased you liked my books. I hope you found them wildly romantic. :) J, thanks for sharing your honest concerns. As an author, I hope to accurately portray the Amish perspective of Christianity and God through the eyes of my Amish characters. I would love for you to read one of my books and let me know how you think I did.

As the title suggests, it tells about Eicher's childhood growing up Amish in Honduras. I have a hard time putting it down.

I just finished Courting Cate by Leslie Gould. It was a refreshingly different read, even though I felt the ending was a little rushed. I would've waited to read it with everyone else next month, but I had to snatch it up from the library while it was there!

Now on to Falling to Pieces: A Quilt Shop Murder by Vannetta Chapman!

Jolina Petersheim (jolina_joy) | 38 comments Hello, friends! Just received this fun review by Publishers Weekly of my debut novel (releasing July 1), THE OUTCAST: a modern retelling of The Scarlet Letter! "As Rachel makes an effort to rise above her circumstances and their complications, including her child's health issues, Petersheim's emotional story leaves readers intrigued by the purity of Rachel's strong will, resilience, and loyalty." What a fun way to start off the week! :) Hope you'll check the review out! http://publishersweekly.com/978-1-414...
