I think the new Angels and Demons movie was so far from the book that I was pissed off by the end of the movie. They left entire characters out of the movie. Come on Opie do better.

The TV adaptation of King's The Stand is pretty bad. Really, anytime Mick Garris touches a Stephen King work, I feel like smacking a small child. For the love of God, man, stop!
Also, (and I kindly ask you all to refrain from chomping my head off), Clint Eastwood's adaptation of Dennis Lehane's Mystic River is probably the most disappointing flick I've ever seen. It's not a terrible film all it's own, but next to the source material, it's dog droppings.

Ashley (readerandwriter) I wasn't too impressed with "The Lovely Bones"... I guess I was expecting something different.

Jessie | 2 comments I think if you choose any Stephen King novel you have a 50/50 chance at a terribly cheesy movie being made from it (which I seem to love anyway).

My personal favorite: Dreamcatcher. The book isn't the best Stephen King, but it is like 600 pages and the movie... woo.

I'd also like to say The Scarlet Letter, but the movie doesn't exist for me. Happy ending? What? Freely adapted takes on a whole new meaning. Jez. Thank you so much Roland Joffé.

Sam (ecowitch) | 42 comments I tend to find that most movies based on books are pretty grim when compared to the book but I think the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons are the worst new ones, they just changed everything far too much, especially the order of them. I mean why, what's the point, the books are popular because of the stories so why change them?!?!?!? Oh I don't get these movie people!!!

Melinda Metz | 5 comments This goes back a while, but it's always the first thing I think of when this question comes up.Dad was a wonderful, heartbreaking book. The movie just sentimental oatmeal (um, do I need to say IMHO? This is all just IMHO. :) ). Example of badness. The main character in the book: ex-pat painter. The main character in the movie: Wall St. liquidator type.

I'm shaking it off now. As a palate cleanser, best book adaption vote for Ordinary People

Irene Hollimon | 11 comments I thought Dune sucked and didn't they remake that movie? But then I didn't much like the book either.

Ronyell (rabbitearsblog) I didn't like the Mike Myers' version of The Cat in the Hat. That movie was so terrible and it nearly ruined the brilliance of the book! I also didn't like Tim Burton's version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! I tried to like it, but I just couldn't get into it.

I'd have to agree wholeheartedly on that one! I got to the scene where she was swimming nude in the pond and turned off the DVD (or was it VHS?). Give me a break!

I absolutely agree. They left out so many important and poignant moments. Of course, it was on Lifetime, right? So what can I expect.

Amanda (writers_soul) Percy Jackson movie was a lot diffrent, Coraline, and Cirque Du Freak were too.

I didn't mind Coraline because it still kept up with the scary tone of the book, but the Where the Wild Things Are movie was really different from the book.

Christine (christine007) I just watched "Where the Wild Things Are" this past weekend and I was really disappointed with it. I loved the book as a kid but, honestly, I would not have allowed my child (if I had one) to see it-at least not until they were a tad older.

I actually enjoyed Coraline. Not as much as the book but I appreciated that they were relatively true to the tone, characters, and story.

Cliff Ball (cliffball) | 13 comments No Country For Old Men. The book sucked and the movie did too.

Ronyell (rabbitearsblog) I agree Christine that the "Where the Wild Things Are" movie is just too dark for little kids and I was just shocked at how different it was from the book. I loved Coraline also and I think that the movie did a great job at staying true to the book.
