Kathryn Knight | 5 comments Hi, I'm Kathryn, I'm an avid reader of many genres. I'm a published paranormal romance author so romance with a light paranormal element tends to be my favorite. Right now I'm reading 11/22/63 and before that the A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) series. Any great book interests me!

Kathryn Knight | 5 comments Thanks I will! My publisher is currently running a Halloween Blog Hop (we have all different types of romance authors) for about 40 authors- each stop has a giveaway of a book, gift, or book store gift certificate. I've had a lot of fun checking out the posts.

message 167: by Florence (Lefty) (new)

Florence (Lefty) MacIntosh Hello everyone,
My name is Florence, I live on the WET Coast in Vancouver BC. I've just joined GReads this July and I've met so many great people already. I love to read, just about all genres. I guess my favorites are contemporary, realistic & historical fiction. So, hello! Oh, and I didn't feel yesterday's earthquake - 7.7 - hopefully no aftershock...

Hi Florence! Welcome to the group!
I have some family on the island, though they were out of province at the time of the quake. For being such a big one, I haven't heard many people say too much about it. Gratefully, even the tsunami didn't amount to much. Since I live right in the middle of a tectonic plate, I haven't had to worry to much about earthquakes, but I have had the pleasure of sleeping through one while traveling. :)

message 170: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Hello everyone,
My name is Lynne and I live in Singapore. I am an avid reader and have just finished The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern which I really enjoyed.
I am looking forward to the upcoming group reads.

Hi Lindsay, luckily the earthquake was out far enough that it did little damage. Where in Canada are you from?

Smack dab in the middle: Winnipeg. It would probably be the safest place in Canada if it wasn't for that pesky murder rate. By the end of the year, we're usually Canada's murder capital (per capita). :(

Wow, I had no idea, I would have thought Toronto or even Vancouver with Willie Pickton's rampage. Interesting.

Lindsay (ltg584) | 478 comments Mod
It all comes down to that "per capita" clause. We may not have as many deaths, but we also don't have anywhere near the population. I'm sure the majority can be chalked up to gang involvement, with the occasional domestic issue. Not a lot of "random" killings, like Pickton. So basically, don't hang out in the wrong part of town in the middle of the night.

message 180: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Hi! I'm Ashley and am currently 8 months pregnant and expecting a little boy, Jack Garrison. I'm trying to get a lot of reading in before he comes, but haven't accomplished as much as I anticipated. I like reading a lot of different genres from the classics to historical fiction to paranormal romance and urban fantasy. The November read drew me to this group because Perks has been an all time favorite of mine since I first read it in high school. I'm looking forward to discussing it with you all.

Welcome, Ashley!
Firstly, congrats on the little one on the way! Is he your first?
My love of reading and writing were reignited after having kids, though I really didn't have the chance to do much reading until they were both old enough to entertain themselves for short bursts. I really hope your son gives you the time to fit in a book or two. ;)

Lindsay, thank you! My husband and I were expecting twins, but due to complications lost them at 19 weeks gestation so Jack will technically be our first although we think about our other two boys all the time. I imagine while he is napping I will also be trying to nap so will not get much reading done at first, but hopefully can sneak some in. Lol. I'm looking forward to seeing what being a mother will add to my writing. Hopefully, it will give me a lot more to write about and will reignite that for me as it did you.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss! I have been fortunate in my own life, but have known friends to go through something similar, and it must be the hardest thing any parent can go through. Right now, you're kinda my hero. xoxo
My writing began when my oldest son would ask me to tell him stories. I wrote a few stories for him, but it didn't leave me satisfied. Then I wrote a middle grade story, but still something was missing. So I have also dabbled with an adult sci-fi short story, and started a paranormal YA story. Right now I'm writing a dystopian novel for NaNoWriMo, and am writing a graphic novel with an artist friend of mine in my "free time". lol

Jocelin Welcome to our group, Ashley. Congratulations on your expectant little bundle of joy. I am so very sorry for your loss of your twin boys. I know what it is like to lose a little boy; my husband and I lost our Evan about six years ago when I was just 41/2 months pregnant. I wish you & your husband much happiness; love the name Jack Garrison.

Hi Kris, welcome. I often get hooked into reading a book because of a great title or cover myself. I actually like some true crime, and most other genres as well.
