Are there any McCammon stories that you haven't read yet that's on your "to-read" list?

message 652: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments Ken, no. :)
I've read everything at this point, and have re-read more than half of those. I'm super excited for this epic he's working on and for the next Matthew Corbett book. I'm also hoping for more on Michael Gallatin and really hoping for more Trevor Lawson ( from I Travel By Night). LOL I think I have an obsession. :)

I second your comments, Stacey, about "Swan Song". McCammon is a wonderful writer!

Gregor Xane (gregorxane) | 420 comments This might be old news, but it's the first I've heard of it.

The Wolf's Hour movie is in the works:

Char | 17469 comments I saw that today, too! This has the possibility of being great or it could totally suck. :)

Gregor Xane (gregorxane) | 420 comments Werewolves seem hard to pull off on screen. At least that's how it seems to me.

Call me old school. But, I hope the digital effects will be at a minimum. Less like Underworld and more like The Walking Dead. Something believable and not like you're watching a video game.

Yes, I like practical effects with CGI added just to hide the seams. However, it doesn't seem like much of that is happening.

Craig Wesley Wall | 2 comments The Wolf's Hour is one of my favorite books of all time. I hope they respect the novel as much as all of us do and don't screw up the film. This could open up more McCammon movies. Stinger would be amazing.

message 663: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments Craig, another friend of mine just said the same thing. Stinger would be a blast. What do you think about a movie of Swan Song?

message 664: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 964 comments That's the one I would like to see, Charlene. Swan Song would be hard to translate properly into one movie, though. I'm thinking trilogy.

I think they should leave Swan Song alone.

message 666: by Craig (new)

Craig Wesley Wall | 2 comments I have to agree with Jon on this one; Swan Song is just too epic of a story to be made into a proper film. I can't foresee anyone backing it with enough funds to do it justice.

I'm not a fan of a Swan Song movie, either--nothing could compare to the actual book--I don't care who's funding it. There's bound to be something omitted/changed that would ruin the experience.

Caleb Blake (caleb72) | 43 comments Just finished They Thirst. Love a good vampire horror. I was very taken by vampires until they started to have a love/sex life.

I'm slowly savouring his works, one book every year. However, I might try to slowly work myself through Blue World this year as well. A story here - a story there.

Next year it's Gone South and then I'll have read everything up until McCammon's triumphant return to writing.

Life is good. :)

message 669: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments Caleb, life is good. :)
I've slowly been rereading all of the older ones. Mine is the only reread left for me, and then I'm all caught up until the next one comes out.

message 670: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments BTW, I just reread Blue World and it was awesome. I think you'll like it. :)

message 671: by Caleb (new)

Caleb Blake (caleb72) | 43 comments Yes - I've heard it has some great stories and I have a tendency to push anthologies to the side in favour of novels. That's why I thought if I just spread the stories out over time, I can sneak past my silly idiosyncrasies.

If I can fool myself, then I'm either particularly clever or particularly stupid depending from which angle I look. :)

message 672: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments LOL I hear you. A few of the stories are novella length, and I did like that. It gave me a little more time in the worlds McCammon created.

message 673: by Dave (new)

Dave Pope | 53 comments I rate Swan Song as one of the best novels that I've had the pleasure of reading - twice. Have "The Five" but haven't started it yet - kind of saving it up to savour on a rainy day. His "Boy's Life" is up there in the best reads category but in my opinion very little matches "Swan Song".

message 674: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments We're reading The Five this month over in the McCammon group.
Everyone has their own favorites and that's cool. Swan Song was fantastic...it was one of the first books I repurchased when I got a Kindle..mostly because my paperback fell apart.

message 675: by [deleted user] (new)

I honestly can't pick a favorite between Swan Song, Boy's Life, and Usher's Passing. On different days i'll say one or another, but the truth is, I hold all three in such high regard that one is really not better than the other two. Straub's Ghost Story is the only book that challenges these three as the best I've ever read. I Am Legend is not far behind.

That's a tough call for me, too, Dave.....

message 677: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments I love ALL of those too, Clay. :)

message 678: by Stacey (new)

Stacey I agree with all the comments about Swan Song...leave it alone. Don't try to make it into a movie, a trilogy or a TV miniseries - NOTHING can do the book justice. The images it generates are far better left to the imaginations of the readers rather than to Hollywood who could really mess up an epic novel.

p.s. I just bought The Five on Audible. Yay me! :-)

I've just finished a German edition of Swan Song (translated and published as Nach dem Ende der Welt (~"After the End of the World"), published by mainstream book company Knaur, and wonder if it had any original passages or chapters omitted.

(view spoiler)

The German edition also has about half of the page count than the edition featured on Goodreads which left me a bit suspicious from the beginning. There is another two-volume German edition by Festa company which is specialised in horror and dark fantasy from the English-speaking world. Being able to read both German and English I usually pick the editions with the lowest price. In this case I paid less than one Euro while the American one would have cost me almost 50 bucks.

message 681: by Hunter (new)

Hunter (goathunter) | 75 comments Hi, Ekel.

Yes, I've heard from other readers that the Knaur edition really butchered the novel. Sister Creep is a major character from the beginning of the book.

I've been told the Festa edition is much more complete and closer to the original English novel.
