Robb, I don't want to give much away but I am a big fantasy reader and I would actually consider Boy's Life to be fantasy. Don't expect Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones or anything. It's more subtle than that. More realism fantasy... I guess. It's about the magic of childhood. I loved it.

I second what Traci and Charlene say!

Brad Cundiff | 14 comments Hi Robb, I also have to recommend Boy's Life. It's one of my favorites and I think McCammon's best work. The book stirred up a ton of nostalgia for me and my own childhood.

I just recently got back into reading McCammon going way back to They Thirst upon a friend's recommendation. I thought it was a great addition to the vampire mythology with some refreshing twists to the traditional lore.

I'm also a huge fan of the Matthew Corbett stories.

McCammon rarely disappoints.

Char | 17469 comments Hi, Brad! I'm slowly rereading the horror ones and am up to date with the Corbett books as well!
Have you read the novella I Travel By Night yet? It was awesome. :)

message 605: by [deleted user] (new)

I know Boy's Life is your favorite,Charlene, but how would you rank the McCammon that you've read?

message 606: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments Yes, Boy's Life is my favorite. I guess the entire Corbett series would come in second for me. The Five, Blue World, I Travel By Night, Usher's Passing, Swan Song, and then the earlier books like Baal and Bethany's Sin.

Hi Charlene. Yes and I loved it. Fingers crossed that it leads to new series about Trevor Lawson...

message 608: by [deleted user] (new)

What are the Corbett books? The werewolf ones? He's the one with the werewolf fighting nazi book... right? I have to be honest, the first time I saw that one I was like... huh... ? But I'll try anything. And I'll probably love it. That's usually how it works. Lol.

message 609: by [deleted user] (new)

I liked Travel By Night too. Hoping for a sequel. It sort of left itself for one didn't it? I hope he writes another novella at least.

message 610: by Brad (new)

Brad Cundiff | 14 comments Traci, the Corbett books are Speaks the Nightbird, The Queen of Bedlam, Mister Slaughter, and The Providence Rider.

Historic fiction, mystery/suspense, less supernatural. I really enjoyed the books.

message 611: by Chris (new)

Chris (flahorrorwriter) | 2844 comments Traci, The Wolf's Hour is awesome, along with Hunter from the Woods...

message 612: by [deleted user] (new)

Got it :)
I had no idea those books go together.

Have to get TRAVEL BY NIGHT off the wish list, and on to the "own" list!!

message 614: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments Kimberly, you do!! It will leave you craving for more Trevor Lawson.
He really deserved more than a novella. I loved how it took place in Louisiana (if I remember correctly) but felt like a western. LOVED IT. :)

I do not see it. I hate to ask can you double check your link. I swear things like this happen to me all the time but it usually brings the attention to the person who posted that there was an error in the link or where it takes you. I am going to read The Five though now :)

message 620: by Hunter (new)

Hunter (goathunter) | 75 comments Speaks the Nightbird is the first book in the third row on the ebooks page. If you still don't see it, you might try reloading the page in case you have an older version of the page cached in your browser.

You can also find the links on the news item on the front page of RobertMcCammon.com.

Of course, this happens just AFTER I buy the paperback version of Speaks the Nightbird, in order to start the series--LOL! Now, I'll probably end up buying the kindle version, too!

That happened to me last week. I bet it happens often. Start with the one book and keep an eye out for any sales or giveaways with the others. :)

Stinger is absolutely one of the best novels I've ever read. McCammon's best hands down.

message 634: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments The McCammon group just read Stinger a few months back. Most of us really enjoyed it. We're reading Blue World now. You should come join us. :)

message 635: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments Sonny, . the books Hunter mentioned are awesome. The Five is a contemporary story about a band and Speaks the Nightbird is the start of an historical fiction series. For old school horror you might like Swan Song, Stinger or even Usher's Passing which is related to the Poe story, Fall of the House of Usher.

Chris (flahorrorwriter) | 2844 comments Reading The Five now and really digging it! Also, Wolf's Hour is one of my favorites...

Top 5 McCammon stories (IMHO):

1) Swan Song

2) Boy's Life

3) Nightcrawlers (short story in Blue World)

4) Wolf's Hour

5) Usher's Passing

message 640: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments That's a great top 5 Ken! Have you read The Five yet? We're reading it over in the McCammon group in January. I read it when it first came out, (and loved it), and I'm looking forward to reading it again. You're welcome to join us.

Yes, I've read The Five and it is also a great book. If pressed, I'd probably rate Swan Song and Boy's Life as 1A and 1B. Lol.

Any book that can "out-Stand" Stephen King's - The Stand has to be at the top of the list!

message 649: by Stacey (new)

Stacey Swan Song is my favorite McCammon novel and, as great as King's The Stand is, I think Swan Song can "stand" as the #1 post-apocalyptic novel. Even given its size, that's a re-read for me every now and again.

message 650: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments I think they both have merit and I love them both.
I've re-read them both as well. :)
