I might suggest removing the rating column as everyone is going to rate differently.
Not sure if you want to add the hassle, but I've been keeping track of profession as well as some challenges are based on that.

and yes, I got enough sleep hehe
would be willing to help in any why if you need me just ask.
The spreadsheet is a bright idea and think it's looking good.

Steph posted that she opened it up to all, so I think you should be able to go into the doc and add it doing a cut&paste. If you're not sure about doing that, send it to Steph, Sandra or me.
feeling quite gleeful at the thought of all that useful info!!

Thanks, I found the other post and added my UF/PNR series. Now since I've got the ok, I'll add the rest.

I'm really worried about the rating thingy. As an example, the book I just added, I rated as a 3. Some of my friends (as well as others I know) have rated it higher...like 4 and 5. I don't want someone to look at the spreadsheet, see a rating of 3, and it causes them not to choose the book. It is very likely that my 3 is someone else's 4 or 5.
Am I making any sense?

A quick form everyone can fill in. Once the data is input into this form and they..."
Surely. I'll post them as I have time, no problem. Thanks for sharing your efforts with the group. :)

Yep, definitely makes sense. Diane had the same suggestion. If everyone agrees, I'll scrub that column/question. Other thoughts - yay or nay?
Anything else anyone would like to see added or removed? Diane also suggested "profession" - yay? nay? thoughts?
I'm always open to suggestions, so lemme have 'um! :)

:) Mornin', Sunshine! Or afternoon, or evening. LOL!

I do see what you're saying, Southpaw. I found myself stumbling a bit on that button; thinking, this is a book I REALLY loved, but maybe it's not as good as that...should I really give it this score on the master list? Also, the ones that are input directly don't necessarily have anything. However, I don't particularly like the idea of no rating whatsoever, especially if the book is a 1 or 2.
I'm hoping people will realize that those are one person's opinion, and they should look at the GR rating for a wider field of rating. Also, the purpose is to help people find books for particular challenges, so hopefully they'll find something that will "fit" then further investigate on the books review page, etc. to find out if they'll like it.
Maybe I'm too optimistic...
What does everyone else think?

And professions are a brilliant idea! In the shower this morning, I was pondering my A-Z challenges...and thinking to start one based on professions for 2011 (doing books, authors and M&F characters so want something new, that's not wickedly hard!). Definitely vote for adding professions to the DB sheet!

And Judithe, thinking about challenges while showering? Girl, you ARE addicted! LOL! Love it! The profession idea is a go as well. I hate waiting, so two yays is good enough for me. LOL! Good luck on your challenge idea, sounds good. I'm kinda over the A-Z ones. Over, but not done. I still have several stragglers to finish before the end of this year.
ETA: Done. Ratings removed. Profession added.

(BTW...what else is there to think about showering? Don't want to ponder the growing hips or mosquito bites dotting my arms...lol!)

It will end up being a great resource. Thanks to all those inputting books :D

Thats it I'm having your water shut off LOL!!!!!!

On the other hand...being excom-d would give me much more time to read....at least until the stink killed me!
I am so psyched for the weekend.....

Should we have a "comment" section with a memo above it stating it should be more info about the book rather than rating stuff? This would be a space for other characters, or second main locations.
For example, PNR's usually have one main male, one main female, but some of them, and UF ones in particular, have repeating main characters who aren't THE leading character, but play a major part in the story. Like in the Mercedes Thompson series, Mercy's story has several members of Adam's pack, or Zee (blanking on the name...the fae mechanic she bought the garage from--this is WHY I need the DB...lol!) who play important parts in various books of the series, but might not be chosen as the main character. Others start the story in one place, but then the story moves onto another location for the rest of the story.
Maybe trying to put in too much information, but what do y'all think?

However, the secondary characters in some books are very important - more like an ensemble cast. So having a comment section could be very valuable.
On the other hand do we want to burden people with too much info/work?
Perhaps if we add it, with your comments re focus but not push it.
Alright people what do you want? Let us know!

I think if you add a column called "comments", it will be left to the inputter (is that a word?) to ad lib something, if they put anything at all. But if you have specific headings, I think it will be easier (and you'll get more input).

And good idea about the location...should there be a note in the field explanation?

Any more ideas, just keep posting.

Next question. I just finished the short story collection, Burning Up. How should we enter collections like that? I was thinking Anthology name plus short story title, author of the short story, other relevant info and then a note in the comment section.
Example:
Burning Up: Blood and Roses; by Knight, Angela; etc. etc. COMMENT: One of 4 short stories in this anthology
Burning Up: Whisper of Sin; by Singh, Nalini; etc. etc. COMMENT: One of 4 short stories in this anthology
What do you think?

Perhaps if we had anthology as an option in series/stand alone section?
Funny, I was just adding in the Alpha & Omega books and was wondering the same thing for On the Prowl. Coincidence, I think not.

So, vote we add "anthology" in the series section.
A quick form everyone can fill in. Once the data is input into this form and they click "submit..."
Steph - I have all the books I've read since March already in an Excel spreadsheet with title, author, heroine name, heroine occupation, hero name, hero occupation, location and genre for a total of 130 books. Is there anyway I could send it to you to add directly to the google spreadsheet instead of filling the form out a zillion times?
