Growing Beautiful Code in BioPerl

This chapter, for me, highlights the difficulty of appreciating beautiful code without having some familiarity with the domain. In the case of bioinformatics, I have no background, so I read lightly. Perl would not have been my first choice for a data and graphics intensive application, but it seems to have served this application well. It was interesting to see the evolution of the GUI requirements (and even publication-quality graphics). I do agree that Ajax would be a nice next step to meet the browser client demands.

The introduction to bioinformatics was nice too eventhough this chapter was mostly about a GUI. Looks like the next chapter might be more bioinformatics topics, so the introduction from this chapter will have been helpful for the next chapter too.

I found the introduction to perl syntax section useful, because I'm not familiar with perl.
