Thanks Jan - it's not Miss Marple, this middle-aged lady was before her I think. I'll pop what I have into google.

message 152: by Bettie (new)

Bettie Yay - got it. Miss Silver as written by Patricia Wentworth

message 153: by [deleted user] (new)

You got good Google skills Bettie. ;) That solves at least one of today's mysteries - love that picture!

@ Jan: Sorry about Elvis Cole, just missed him. Sherlock we did have, he was Scout's to start with (solved in message 6).

In the meantime you guys saved me some trouble, and I'm glad I asked for the list, as I was embarking on an Elvis Cole quiz. Do I get a do-over? I bet I do. Here goes...
--------

1. I’m a cynic and I’ve seen it all.
2. But, I’m a romantic.

4. I live alone, above a bar.

Bettie Hello there - here's a stab...

Dalgleish

message 158: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi all,

Dalziel? He is rumpled alright :)

message 159: by Bettie (new)

Bettie I stuffed all this into google and got a Detective McNally. I haven't come across him in my reading.

message 160: by Bettie (new)

Bettie Bettie wrote: "Hello there - here's a stab...

PD James' poetry writing Dalgleish, not Reginal Hill's protagonist (which I haven't read any of yet)

:O)

message 161: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow, you ARE a good Googler! *gives a big cheer*

message 162: by [deleted user] (new)

Bettie, I realy like Dalgleish - although I only know him from the tv series. That was long ago, so I didn't remember his romantic touch. Just made another guess - Dalziel is about the rumpliest (and grumpiest) detective I know... And now we know it wasn't eather one!

message 163: by Bettie (new)

Bettie This is certainly a good way of bringing unknowns to the fore - well done! I have posted a quizette on the antagonist board.

:O)

Nope, Scout, but good guess. And I agree, Mosley is a wonderful writer and his new character Leonid McGill is one in a series of great characters. He doesn't have a partner, though! I just finished Known to Evil also, and greatly enjoyed it.

message 186: by Carol/Bonadie (new)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 445 comments Bill Smith and Lydia Chin are written my S.J.Rozan. It's an award winning series. They are both P.I.'s in modern day Manhattan. Rozan alternates voices each book.. one is from Lydia's point of view, the next is from Bill's. They usualy appear in each other's stories, sometime an active part of the case but not always. It's a rich, rich series, full of the flavor of NYC and especially the Chinese community within the larger majority culture.
