Rebecca | 97 comments I just finished The Hunger Games and Catching Fire. Now I need something to hold me over until Mockingjay comes out. Which one of these should I read first:
Shiver
Poison Study
Graceling
Lament
The Iron King
Or any other recommendations?

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

Not Shiver or Graceling.... out of those I would say Poison Study though I've never read it.

message 3: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I was not a fan ot Lament. I would say Graceling or Poison Study.

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Poison Study and Graceling would go together. Shiver, Lament, and the Iron King would go together.

Read PS and Graceling if you want to stay along the lines of the Hunger Games.

If you want sappier/romantic read Shiver, Lament, then the Iron King (though Shiver was the only one I liked out of that batch).

Natasha | 24 comments Out of interest what is Lament about? I keep seeing it everywhere, but the cover doesn't realy do anything for me.

Is it fairys?

I believe so. I kept seeing it mentioned too so I added it to my TBR list.

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Yes. It's kind of weird, but you'll still want to finish it. I wouldn't say skip it (you might love it). I've only read this and Shiver, but both of the heroes are alike.

I shouldn't have said that in my previous post. I did kind of like Lament, not as much as Shiver though. I did not like the Iron King and could not finish it.

message 8: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 97 comments Is all of the books in The Study series out? I have so many series that Im reading and waiting for the next book. I dont want to add another one right now if I dont have to.

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Yes, I believe so. It's just the three books, Poison, Magic, Fire (don't know if that's the order). Then there's the glass series, which has characters from the poison series in it. Inside Out is her latest book (nothing to do with the any of other books). You should try that one, too. It was good.

Amy (3601144-amy) | 41 comments The Study Series have a few short stories that Snyder has made available in pdf form also.
Power Study
Assassin Study
Ice Study

If you're looking for a short read, just to hold you over until Mockingjay comes out, I wouldn't suggest this series. Personally, I think this is a great 'Trilogy' plus some. ..

Graceling & Fire are both fabulous books as well.
These books can be read apart.

message 11: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments I vote Graceling. It's still my favorite book so far this year and I've read over a hundred books this summer.

I thought the Study series had at least one more book coming out. Are the shorts going to be developed into full length books or is she done? I swear I heard something about Power Study being a full length book in the works, but maybe I was just dreaming. I hope that isn't the end of it. Valek is almost as sexy as Po and that's saying something.

message 12: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Oh, and yes, Lament is about fairies and was odd, but an okay read. I liked Shiver better if you're looking for a paranormal romance. Shiver was a bit more satisfying.

message 13: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 97 comments Is there at least a little romance in the poison study? I downloaded the sample of it on my kindle last night. It seems pretty good so far. I have a whole month before mockingjay comes out. Im sure I will finish the series, plus some before then. Im going on vacation in a couple weeks and all I plan to do is read! :)

message 14: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Big time romance in Poison Study!

message 15: by Rebecca (new)

message 19: by Heidi (new)

Heidi You are just full of piss and vinegar today aren't you Peep?

message 20: by Amy (new)

Amy (3601144-amy) | 41 comments Rebecca, the order that I have the shorts in is incorrect above. The Study Series is to be read as following:

1. Poison Study
1.5 Assassin Study
2. Poison Study
2.5 Power Study
3. Fire Study
3.5 Ice Study

Have you read Fire? I think I fell in Love with Fire a lil bit more than Graceling. (umm. yup, I did.) Cashore can def. write a book! Now I can not wait for Bitterblue! ugh. Another year. ..

Yes, and I loved Fire every bit as much as Katsa, but she's so different that it's hard for me to pick a favorite. I think I still love Graceling more just because it totally blew me away, but at other times I think Fire is the more dynamic and put together story.

Always love Heidi, always love.

Also, that was for the funnies. I've been wanting to use that phrase for a few weeks now. I saw my chance and jumped on it. So I'd say today I am full of juice and candy canes.

message 25: by Lori (new)

Lori (tyme2read) Amy, I am looking forward to reading this series as well and hadn't heard of the pdf stories that go with it. Where do I find those?

message 28: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 97 comments I dont really read fast. I just read a lot! lol Im already through 40% of Poison Study! But Ive been reading all day. :)

message 29: by Amy (new)

Amy (3601144-amy) | 41 comments The shorts are on Cashore's website.

Assassin Study and Power Study can also be purchased as an Ebook. (Amazon, B&N & Borders have them)

Ice study is not finished. I have the pdf of the first 5 chapters-that's what I think she has given. (she emails quarterly, if sign up and July's has not came out yet.)
Atleast. .. I'm pretty sure I'm up-to-date. ;-)

Jodie (jzb_my_1_only) Have you read The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare? Or The Hour Glass Door by Lisa Mangum. I just finished reading Catching Fire & it was awesome another suggestion is The Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead if you haven't read any of these series yet i totally reccomend all of them.

message 34: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 97 comments I have read The Vampire Academy! Its one of my favs! I cant wait for Last Sacrifice to come out! Im planning on reading The Mortal Instruments series on my vacation in Aug. I havent heard of The Hour Glass Door though. I will have to check it out.

I totally love these books. How much? I first read them in June 09 and have read them all twice and City of Bones three times. I get them out and read my favorite parts pretty often. LOVE JACE!
