BTW, I'm in Arizona and could only dream of summers in Alaska!!

Yeah, Sagan is a hero of mine. I don't think that anybody can capture the beauty and wonder of science quite like he can. That said, I have seen Tyson, and I like him too. I'll have to check out Cox sometime. I'm definitely glad that someone is picking up the torch. Have you seen the Symphony of Science videos? I think they're great. My favorite is "We Are All Connected," which has Tyson and Sagan in it. Good stuff.
I can't imagine spending summers in Arizona. I'm in South East Alaska, on the panhandle, so we get a lot of cruise ships in town, and you'd be surprised how many people on the cruises are from Arizona and Texas. They're always commenting on how cool it is here versus where they live. Where I live in North Carolina there's currently a heat index of over 100 degrees, so I'm pretty glad to be here right now, where it just hangs out around 60.

Nope, though quite a few people from my high school went there. I'm at UNC Greensboro now, but I spent a year at Chapel Hill before I transferred.
Yeah, I lived in FL for awhile too. It was just hot, humid, and yucky. I'm glad to be farther north, though right now NC isn't too terribly much better.

Everyone I know who's been on an Alaskan cruise first say they loved it and then tell me that they ran into people they knew from AZ. Anyone who can get's out of here......maybe we should go back to summers in Ireland/winters in AZ??

I'm a college student majoring in music education. I play the oboe, though I can also play saxophone and clarinet. I live in North Carolina, but my parents live in Alaska, so I go there for summer and winter breaks. Actually, I'm there right now!.
Other than music, I love science in general, particularly biology and astronomy. I also love to cook and bake, and I make some seriously mean cookies. I am currently dating a wonderful guy who is a fellow music major, majoring in organ and composition, who also has a burning love for literature and a passion for science. I'm a very lucky girl.
I obviously love to read, and my favorite genres are classics and science fiction. While those are my favorites, I will read anything that has honest, believable characters and a beautiful writing style. I don't read non-fiction very often, but some of my favorite authors are Bill Bryson and Carl Sagan. The only genres that I'm really not a big fan of are mystery and Christian fiction.
I am currently in the midst of a "creative women challenge," which is a reading challenge that I created for myself where I only read books written by women. I'm sure I'll update the group on that in more detail later, and I'd love if a few people would like to join me!
Anyway, that's about all I need to say about me. It's so nice to meet you all!
