Emily | 21 comments Ok, I'm going to press my luck and go for one more long shot today.

This time I'm trying to find a children's book that I think I read when I was about 5 or 6 years old, which would have been in 1984-85. The only detail that I remember well is that the characters (fairies maybe?) lived in a sparkly cave. I think maybe the walls of the cave were made out of diamonds. I really can't pull any other details out of my memory bank. The only other thing I can say is that it was not a chapter book.

Hope this gets me somewhere! Thanks!

The only children's book I know with a sparkly cave is The Twenty-One Balloons but this obviously isn't it, no fairies and it's a chapter book.

Anyone else know some sparkly caves?

Family of witches live on top of a glass hill, there is cave inside the hill that is described as beautiful and sparkling, I think there was a mermaid or a family of mermaids that lived in the cave.

Emily, are you still looking for this book?

Hi there! A google search led me here - I am looking for a children's book with a sparkly cave too! Although for me it would have been further back - 60's-70's.... I'm not sure. I can't remember anything other than this image of the cave (imagined image that is; it was not a picture book). Maybe it was a story and not a whole book? I don't know; it's not the 21 Balloons though... Any thoughts?

Emily's book is not a chapter book. It sounds like yours very well could be? So you should start a new thread in UNSOLVED.

No, this had no illustrations at all, tho it may not be the same book. It was just a shot in the dark! The original question was the closest my search got me; thx anyway...

Laurel, to avoid confusion when people answer, please create a new thread for your book request. We can add links between the two requests for easy cross-referencing.

That's OK, I give up. It was a long shot, I just came across the other post in a google search and that was the only reference I could find to a children's book with a sparkly cave. Cheers!

Emily hasn't been in this thread since 2010 so this is Abandoned. Hopefully she'll come back at some point.

Jumping back on my long-abandoned thread. Unfortunately, it is not The Gift of the Frost Fairy, although that looks like a sweet book! Still no luck with my book. I have a feeling it was kind of a dumb book. I think it may have had fairies, or pixies, maybe a little community of them, and they may have lived in the cave, or worked there. The memory is pretty vague!

Caroline wrote: "A bit of a longshot but it wasn't a Fraggle Rock book was it? I am about the same age as you and I had a fraggle rock book in the eighties and the doozer's structures in the caves are kind of sparkly."

Following up on Caroline's suggestion, the Fraggle Rock books of the 1980's appear to have different authors. Here's one example: Marooned in Fraggle Rock by David Young and Barbara McClintock.

Emily | 21 comments No, not Fraggle Rock, but thank you!
