are vertical farms the wave of the future?

Interesting article about an old factory in an industrial area being turned into a "vertical farm". The farm would be somewhat self-sustaining, with water from the fish going to the crops:

One big problem, though, I hadn't cosidered...the sun can't reach the crops if they're inside so the vertical farms need a ton of energy. What do you think?

I love that the developers took an older, dying building, though, and brought it to life.

RA, I was listening to a newscast about the new Chevy Volt. Like the vertical farm, this GREEN product use a ton of electricity. Where is that going to come from? On a really hot day the grid has rolling brownouts because of the AC demand. I find it ironic that the people that don't want us to use gasoline and coal, advocate the use of these items without improving the supply chain for electricity. France is about 80% nuclear and if the US is going to meet its increasing demand for electricity, it is going to have to follow that road.
