Charlotte stepped out of the carriage, looking up at the Gothic manor that was Spence Academy. She might have once thought it was beautiful, but now all she could see was a prison that would hold her for the next year. Bloody hell.... Baleful Charlotte turned to her mother, holding suitcase tightly. "This is where you want me to stay?" He mother sighed at her daughter's words.
"Dear, I know you find this hard, but it'll be good for you. You need to learn how to properly socialize properly and Spence was willing to take you despite no previous training. It's not as bad as you think. I attended for eight years and enjoyed it. You'll make plenty of friends."
"I don't want friends like these girls. I've heard what they're like. Snotty and prissy. I want to go back to New York." Charlotte nearly growled. Her mother's brow creased.
"Please dear, try for me and your father. It's only for a year and then I promise, you may return to New York and have your season there if you wish." Charlotte's mother pleaded, reaching out to touch her daughters cheek. Charlotte sighed.
"I will try, mother," she replied. As angry as she was for being here, she wouldn't see her mother until Christmas and it was only August now. Her mother smiled.
"That's my Lottie," she sighed, using her daughters pet name. "Now go on, they're waiting."
Charlotte began walking towards the door, casting one last look at her mother, before knocking. The door was opened immediately by a young woman in a servant's uniform.
"You must be Miss Gaither. I will take your things, miss. Just follow me, Headmistress Maven is in the Great Hall with the others. She'll get you straightened." The woman said.
Charlotte was lead into a great room with carved stone pillars. Inside sat many girls--almost 50 is seemed--ranging in age from what seemed to be 8 to 18. Near the fire sat and older, stern looking woman. Must be the Headmistress.
Charlotte was quickly greeted by the woman, while the maid left. She was informed she begin classes tomorrow with the older girls and where her room was. Then she was sent of to mingle with the other girls. Charlotte found herself standing in the middle of the room awkwardly.
"Eden, try to work that pout off your face before we arrive, won't you?" Delia murmured, lifting a weak, pale and bony finger to tuck under Eden's chin and turn her face towards her mother's.
Eden's dark eyes sulked, and they looked away from her mother's blue ones with guilt.
"I just don't see the point of this academy. I was perfectly happy traveling with you. You'll get better soon, and then you'll come and get me straight away, right?" Eden asked hopefully, still frowning as she said so.
Delia shook her head, short black curls hanging limply over her once beautiful, heart shaped face. Exhaustion and worry lines caressed around her eyes and forehead. Eden knew she should of just told her mother to stay put in her sick bed, but she desperately wanted to be the last person she saw before exiting the carriage.
"It's alright, my love. You'll love it here. My mother and her mother and many generations back went here." Elias spoke, pulling out a silver pocket watch from his front pocket, checking the time. "Ah, right on time."
Eden's stomach lurched as she peered out the window, a towering castle, strangely gorgeous rose from the dark and out of the shadows of the trees as their carriage bumped along the dark road. Gargoyles stood on top of the school on either side, peering down below them.
"Bit theatrical, don't you think?" Eden said bitterly, sitting back against the velvet green seats. Delia coughed into a yellow handkerchief, giving a small wheeze but doing her best to hide it from Eden. If only she'd let Eden stay home to take care of her! It wasn't such a big deal, she was plenty enough of a lady.
"You're being a bit theatrical, Eden. Honestly." Elias tsked as the carriage came to a halting stop.
"Do I have to?" Eden complained, fidgeting in her corset.
"Yes." Elias and Delia said adamantly. Eden frowned and sighed stubbornly.
Lovely, just lovely.

Charlotte ended up sitting by a large window, away from the other girls who all seemed to know each other and stick tight to their cliques. She was about to enjoy a good self pity fest when suddenly another girl was lead in by the same maid as before. The girl was pretty and exotic looking, with olive skin and dark hair. The way she held herself--head high and defiant--she reminded Charlotte of stories she heard about Amazon warriors. The girl talked to the Headmistress for several minutes before being turned loose into the room. Charlotte cocked her head curiously.
((I hope you don't mind me doing that, but I doubted you wanted to do the whole "meet the teacher" scene and all.))
A very fancy carrige pulled up to Spence Acadamy and a young girl who looked to be about 14 with brown hair at arownd her chin and grey she was waring
a grey dress with white puffy sleeves and a white colar, The grey stripes between the sleeves and the collar had a blue trim. There was a black strip of fabric tied around her waist. She wore a pair of tan
dangly earings, got out and said "Goodbye mother, I shall see you on Chistmas break" The carrige rode off and the girl turned around walked up to Charrlote and said "Hi my name is Aismi and you look new and just a warning, this place is a living hell"
((Er...))
Eden had given two kisses on the cheeks to her parents, a more gentler one to her mother as she made Eden promise to write at least once a month, and a guarantee that she could come home for the winter holidays.
Her two trunks disappeared inside the academy, and Mrs. Nightwing, had immediately ushered outside to greet Eden and lead her inside. She was surprised at how dark the inside of the school was as her eyes roved over marble statues and the polished floors. Hardly paying attention to the Headmistress, Eden made do with polite nods and the occasional smile before being shown a room, and the door closed quietly behind her.
Eden looked up to see a tall, pretty girl with long black hair pulled up into a do, golden hazel-ish eyes, and a look of curiosity on her face. Eden scratched her hip, mentally complaining about her corset.
"How do you do?" Eden said nervously, giving a slit curtsy.
It was then another girl entered the room and introduced herself as Aismi. Eden held back an obnxious snort as the girl seemed only around the age of 13 or 14, and had outright used 'hell' in her first sentence.
Some Academy this is.

Charlotte smiled at the exotic looking girl, who had curtsied to her. She found herself instantly liking her. She was about to reply when a young girl walked over to her, introduced herself, and told her the school was "hell." Charlotte held back a snort. As if I didn't already know that. "I'll....keep that in mind," Charlotte replied curtly to the girl, not sure what else to say. So she turned to other girl and nodded.
"Hello. I'm Charlotte," Charlotte replied, noticing the girl, like herself, didn't have an English accent. "I hope you don't mind me asking, but what's your name and where are you from? You're the first person I've meet in quiet a while who doesn't sound English."
Eden was almost instantly warming up to Charlotte. Someone who didn't even think to ask if she had a suitor yet, or where her dress was purchased--thank heavens.
"Eden." She said with a small smile, the fakeness of it loosening. "My Mother is actually from the, er, States, is it called? Anyways, my Father is from here and she from there, and I travel to much to really pick up on an accent, I suppose." Eden realized she probably sounded ridiculous, but she wasn't quite sure about how to explain.

Charlotte smiled wide and let out a laugh. However she instantly stifled when she got strange looks from the other girls. Instead she cleared her throat and turned to Eden."I'm from the States myself. New York City, in fact. It's nice to see someone who is as....traveled as I am."
Eden held down an eye roll as many other girls snickered, holding their fans up by their faces as they giggled and gossiped. Her eyes met Charlotte again and she smiled, but it turned slowly turned sad.
"I have to admit I resent this place. I wouldn't be hear unless my mother hadn't fallen ill." She admitted, holding her hands over her torso where the corset squeezed. Definitely used to wearing them, but not ones this tight.

Charlotte's smile disappeared. "I'm sorry about you mother. I hope she gets better....My grandmother convinced my mother and father I needed to come here, that I needed to learn how to properly socialize. My father won't allow me to return home--or give me my inheritance--until I finish a year here. But....it might not be so bad, right? Maybe there's something interesting is this old castle.....Do you mind me asking, how is that you traveled everywhere?" Charlotte finished.
Aismi walled off kind of slouching a bit. All she could think of was getting to her room so she could get out of this dress. Aismi then started to wish that she hadn't let her Grandma take her to that nearly blind hair cutter who cut her hair short insted of the bangs she asked for, though she didn't know the lady was nearly blind until it was already done
Eden gave a slight shrug of her shoulders.
"Life happens, I suppose." She said softly, then titled her head as Charlotte shared her story. "This place is absolutely...just, torture. I can already tell. Maybe though, but I have a guess snooping around is forbidden." She said with a smirk, shaking her head.
"My mother used to be a journalist in the states, she came here, married and never really worked until my parents split up, but he still made sure my mother got a great job, she's just the top of lady who can't really stay in one place too long." Eden admitted, thinking of herself a bit.

Charlotte smiled."I know exactly where I wanna be. All I need is New York....and as for snooping being forbbiden, well," she leaned in close, "all the best things."
Eden grinned, "I think we'll get along just great."
"Why how do you do Mrs Nightwing".Said still under the covers. "Just came in to check to see if you've setled in". "I have and thank you for asking" Mrs Nightwing smiled and left the room
((Um....this is 35 years in the future, Ms. Nightwing is dead. I called her Ms. Maven.))"Yes, we will, won't we?" Charlotte replied with a smirk. At that moment her attention was called away from Eden towards the middle of the room where Ms. Maven was collecting girls.
"Girls, come now! We must attend vespers!"
Aismi got back in her dress and left the room with her room mate. Aismi saw the girl she had talked to earlyer and said "Hi, so, why were you sent here". All she could think of was her crazy old grandma
Charlotte looked at the blond girl who had spoken to her before. "My grandmother thinks I need training on how to properly socialize," Charlotte replied flatly. Stupid old woman...
"I don't know, I do wonder at times...," Charlotte replied, stepping in line for vespers. With that the doors opened and the girls followed the headmistress out.
"My grandma is in a insane asylum, unfortuntly we found out after my hair was cut by her nearly blind friend who she said could cut hair"
Eden had followed shortly, and unfortunately became in earshot distance when the young girl, Aismi, had claimed her mother was in an insane asylum. She stopped in her tracks, arching an eyebrow of confusion.
"I'm very sorry to hear that." Eden said, stepping in stride besides Charlotte.

"Can't disagree with that." Eden said, cracking a smile.
((35 years later? So that makes it...1931?))Amelia glanced out of the window at the old, as the carriage she was in slowly came to a halt. Already there were girls going to and fro, milling about in the entrances.
I'm not late, she told herself, they're all just early.
She envied the girls whose mothers came with them to help them "settle in". Instead she just took her two trunks and lifted them out of the carriage singlehandedly, although she staggered for a moment under their weight.
"Thank you," she murmured quietly to the driver, and half-dragged, half-carried her two trunks towards the front doors, looking up at the building she had known as home for years, and despite how dark and grim the brick looked, she felt more comfortable there than at her own house.
She sighed inwardly at the memory of leaving that morning by herself. Her mother hadn't even said goodbye that morning, and it was almost a relief to see the familiar halls and grounds of Spence again. Amelia laughed at the memory of when she had first arrived, aged twelve, and how she had loathed the idea of staying.
Darkfire coughed as she walked to art class. "One fairer than my love? The all-seeing sun. Ne'er saw her match since first the world begun..."
