30.2 For the Children
Children's Classic
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
The Secret Garden is one of my favorite books from my childhood. Revisiting it this summer was a joy! This story taught me a lot about how I wanted to live my life, and this was revealed to me as I reread this wonderful book. In the story, Mary learns to let go of prejudices ingrained in her when she was part of the British “ruling class” in India and truly connect with people. She helps Colin find his own inner strength and helps others make more empathetic connections as well. Although I no longer garden much myself, I love being in nature and studying and taking time to look at the animals and plants around me. I love this story and recommend it to you as a reread or a first time reading of a wonderful classic for children that speaks to adults as well. For a number of years on Fox Island there was a Secret Garden maintained for people to visit and I used to spend a lot of time there. That was my biggest memory of the book and I am glad that I revisited the story and discovered so much more meaning than I had remembered.
Child Main Character: Ted/12 Years Old
The London Eye Mystery by Siobhan Dowd
In the same spirit as The Curious Incident of the Dog in Nighttime by Mark Haddon and House Rules by Jodi Picoult, Siobhan Dowd brings us Ted, a young boy with Asperger’s Syndrome who helps solve The London Eye Mystery. Ted’s cousin Salim goes up for a ride on the London Eye, but he doesn’t come down. Ted has some theories about how this could have happened and he and his older sister, Kat, set out to find their cousin. This one kept me guessing right to the end. It’s a great little mystery!
Task 30.2 requires "AND either pass it on, or recommend it to a child (give details when you claim your points)."
Your recommendation is to adults.
You will need to do a new post for this task.
Reposts need to include all task requirements: previously posted items plus previously omitted items.

10.5 - If You Can't Go To The Beach...Bring The Beach To You
I read All I Want Is Everything All i want is everything by Cecily von Ziegesar
I counted this, but I'm not sure that Cynthia would.
Please confirm that it's a picture of a beach on the cover (and not a swimming pool).

Yes, that's fine.
(Points won't go on Readerboard for a while -- sorry.)

Thank you! Believe me I thought I appreciated Cynthia before. Now that I've tried doing some of it, I'm absolutely astounded that she's willing to do all this.

Oops! All my reviews are for my high school students and I just copied it from my blog, but also I totally left out that I bought a copy for my "adopted" son's daughter to keep for when she's old enough and I have saved my own childhood copy for my first grandchildren which will probably be awhile!
Thank you so much for doing this and being true to all of the tasks!

This book is mentioned in the 15.2 Task Help thread, but I'm not clear how Cynthia's post 50 applies.
Does the book have to take place in only one of the 13 original states? "
Since it's questionable if the book will count because it takes place in two of the colonies rather than just one, I went ahead and switched it out with another book. I reposted the correction in post #1666.
Thanks for helping PJ! :D
