Once I got past a 1930s view of what aviation would be in 1973 (twelve hours to fly across the Atlantic, and sleeping compartments on the plane) and the fact that this author was writing an end-of-the-world scenario after all her cozy, friendly tales, I got caught up in it. Conflicts were good, and the characters were fleshed out in the way I expect from Stevenson, but the whole perspective was different.
