It's a decent story, but I went into it with the expectations of "new King" rather than old King. I thought it a pretty good read with the bar set around there.

But I still haven't really found a book of his new stuff that I liked as much as his work in the 80s.

Angela (asheck) | 9 comments Just finished reading Winter of the World by Ken Follet. Wonderful book. Can't wait for book three! Not sure what I'll read next. No library books at the house, so it will be something on my Kindle... Love all Alexandre Dumas - Count of Monte Cristo is wonderful. Have always wanted to read Jules Verne. Maybe now's the time.

I loved the entire collection, as well. Do you have a favorite?

message 3607: by George (new)

George Harting (gharting) | 31 comments If I had to pick a favorite, I would probably pick '1922'. It almost seemed like a tribute to Poe as several places reminded me a lot of 'The Tell-tale Heart' and 'The Black Cat', two of my favorite Poe stories.

I wasn't impressed with The Passage. The start was great but then it went really downhill. I thought it was really overrated. And what was with them saying 'Flyers' all the time? That annoyed me!

Hi, Jason!

I hope you thoroughly enjoy Carrion Comfort. It's one of my all-time favorite books. I read it about 2 years ago, and the story STILL resonates with me, every once in awhile. And indeed, you'll never look at a chess board the same again.:)

So True Dustin. I will remember Carrion comfort for the rest of my life I think. That book was so powerful to me, I was totally consumed by it. I think I enjoyed it so much because it was so real. Simmons writing reminds me of McCammon, whom I am reading now with Swan Song. Again totally consumed!

message 3619: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Yes, you are SPOT-ON, Janie!! I'm sure the story will story with me forever, too. It is VERY powerful, especially Saul's character. And I love Dan Simmons writing, hopefully I can read more of his stuff relatively soon.:)

Scared? Okay...I'll be honest...I really hope this book scares the $h!t out of me. Why? Because I've yet to find a 'scary' book which does that to me. Everyone says it's either IT or The Shining, and The Shining had a few creepy parts and only one which scared me as I went to bed. So, I'm hoping this one freaks me out worse. Sick...I know...:)

I read Candles Burning (my first by Tab) and it was interesting, but kind of weird, like I was confused at times. Then I read The Trap and really enjoyed it. I'd love to read more of her stuff, just to check it out.
To me, Joe sounds similar at times to his dad's writing voice, but not the same.
