Glad you liked The Gates, Scott. The sequel, The Infernals, comes out later this year. I am looking forward to it.

Blaze I started The Reptile Room this morning, and will probably finish it by this evening.

It appears that Samuel gets pulled into the portal in this one. B&N says 10/18/11 release.

I'm glad you're enjoying UTD big-time, so far!

message 1261: by KansasOVGirly (new)

KansasOVGirly (mwkindlegrl) I heard a rumor about the author of The Girl books that it wasn't a heart attack but murder. That he and his wife and kind of gone off the gride b/c they had been threatened because of the magazine he wrote for.

Bondama wrote: "Angie - The Millennium Trilogy is astonishingly good. The whole trilogy is something that has apparently made these three books the MOST popular books in the world! Even more interesting is the ba..."

Anyone have suggestion - my next book - The Stand or Under the Dome????

They were both good but I would go with The Stand. It is one of King's best.

message 1264: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 293 comments Definitely The Stand if you've never read it, but they're both great books!

message 1265: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments Ashley, to be honest, I think that's just the kind of rumour that the Internet specializes in. The "Dragon" books aren't that politically controversial. If Stig and his common law wife went off the grid, it would have been more for their OWN beliefs that anything he wrote about. The heart attack is pretty damn conclusive, because he never had a chance to change his will, and his lady wound up with nothing.

Hard choice. I agree with the others. Both books are great. Flip a coin to decide. LOL

Good evening, Stacy!

That depends on which version of The Stand, IMO. If it's the unabridged, I think I'd go with that; otherwise I'd plunge into UTD, ASAP!:)

I vote for the Stand, which I just finished myself. Excellent story, 5 Stars, dunno what I'm gonna follow it up with though...

I LOVE Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451.

Happy reading!

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments I was reading The Snow Queen by Mercedes Lackey, but it got left in my car and my car isn't here today so I had to read something while I ate my breakfast, so I picked up Carrie Carrie by Stephen King , mostly because it's small and won't distract me from my other one, and because I knew it'd be good. This'll only be my 2nd time reading it. Last time was in high school, oh, probably in 2000.

message 1275: by Jc11king (new)

message 1276: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Hi, Kit-

Carrie's ALWAYS a good choice, IMO!

message 1277: by Scott (new)

Scott | 401 comments I finished Bag of Bones this morning. I thought it was an excellent ghost story.

I'm going to start The Case of Charles Dexter Ward this afternoon. This will be my first read of any Lovecraft.

message 1278: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Hi, Scott!

Bag of Bones IS excellent, isn't it?

message 1279: by Scott (new)

Scott | 401 comments There were many times through the book where I noticed that I would get the chills or that my heart was beating faster. It is definitely one of my King favorites now.

message 1280: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Yes, it's a favorite of mine, as well! I'm glad you enjoyed it so much, Scott!

message 1281: by Brent (new)

Brent McGuffin (themcguffin) | 58 comments I'm reading The Shining for the first time. Of Classic King it is the only book I haven't read. I'm also reading The Passage by Justin Cronin. I just finished the Deathly Hallows and loved it all!!

message 1282: by Dustin (new)

Dustin All three are truly exceptional stories, IMO, Scott!

Though I still can't believe you hadn't ever read HP until recently.:)

message 1284: by Rosalie (new)

Rosalie (rosiejoy) | 2 comments I am about 5 discs away from finishing Under the Dome on audiobook--it's so great/disturbing. I just started reading The Film that Changed My Life, which is a bunch of essays where notable filmmakers discuss their favorite movies. Pretty fascinating thus far.

message 1287: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Hi, Jc-

One word: AWESOME!

message 1288: by Susanna (new)

Susanna (jb_slasher) Finished Salem's Lot . It was okay but somehow couldn't really get into it. I had some distractions, though, so that might have been a part of it.

Now, I'm starting Ender's Game .

message 1289: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Really, Susanna? You couldn't get into 'Salem's Lot? I'm sorry to hear that..

message 1290: by Scott (new)

Scott | 401 comments I'm done with The Case of Charles Dexter Ward.

My son has been trying to get me to catch up with him on the Harry Potter series so I guess that I'll start Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Ender's Game is good I hope you like it :)

message 1292: by Brent (new)

Brent McGuffin (themcguffin) | 58 comments I had the same problem when I read Salem's Lot. It was a few years back. I'll probably read it again sometime just to see if somehow it's changed for me. I had the same problem with The Shining which I had never finished. But I'm reading it now and it's coming along a lot better.

Enders Game series is fantastic. My opinion - start with Ender's Game then proceed thru the Ender's series which starts with Speaker for the Dead. When you finish the Ender's series then start the 'Bean' series which begins where Ender's game finished. First book of the 'Bean' series is Ender's Shadow.
I promise you will not be disappointed.

Staci Johnson | 102 comments Reading Shadow of the Hegemon and The Haunting of Hill House.

message 1297: by Rachel (new)

message 1298: by Susanna (new)

Susanna (jb_slasher) I think this might not have been the ideal time for me to read 'salem's Lot. I feel like I'm being over-exposed to this kind of "subject matter" and so I'm jaded rather than excited to come across it. But I didn't put it down, and that says something about Uncle Stephen's magic. I will probably re-read it in the future and, who knows, I might like it better then.

As for Ender's Game, I'm about 50 pages in and very, very intrigued by it.

message 1299: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 293 comments I finished The Beach on Sunday, and I'm now reading From a Buick 8.
