This might be a bunch of corn but my hygienist told me that the tartar control and the whitening stuff are what makes people's teeth hurt. She said don't bother with the "sensitive" toothpaste because they are just the ones without all that. (she said go with plain crest or whatever.) Tom's probably doesn't have any of that stuff to begin with. I haven't looked this up or done any research.

Lori Gretchen, that's interesting! Except in my case it's because I have recessed gums due to oral surgery. FLOSS everyone!

Huh! my dentist told me that it was the Whitening kinds that make my teeth hurt. So I don't use sensitive, but I certainly don't use whitening.

My dentist said to use the sensitive stuff because I was crawling the walls when I did just about anything (brush, drink water, etc.) It has worked.
The whitening stuff softens your teeth, I think. Can't be good.

I was crawling the walls too, but I hardly think I was being dramatic about it. They "tested my sensitivity" by doing things like
1. holding an ice cube directly to my tooth until I "felt it."
2. whacking the front of my teeth, and then the center of my molars, with a little metal hammer.
3. putting a q-tip soaked in hot water up against the front of my teeth.

Not better, but other toothpaste just tastes so...sweet. Like how I just can't eat bubblegum ice cream or have a "dessert" pizza.

Agathafrye | 17 comments Hi, everybody! In tooth related news, I just got another stabbing tooth pain in my two fractured back tooths... dental torture is pending in two weeks.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Aaah! I'm so sorry to hear that, AF. Anything I can do?

Huh, lately there's been a lot of people having nasty dental work.

message 63: by Agathafrye (new)

Agathafrye | 17 comments Would you like to come over and yank them out? Kidding. Kind of.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I was thinking more like rides to the dentist, or coming over with milkshakes aftewards, that kind of thing, AF. :)

Good lord! you have to wait two weeks for them to fix it?

message 66: by Heidi (last edited Jul 18, 2010 08:06AM) (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments OHHH!!! That sucks. Speaking of "come over and yank them out," a friend of mine posted a video a few years back of her yanking a friend's tooth out. He didn't have insurance, so several of them crammed into a bathroom and watched as they took turns trying to help him get his tooth out. After it was pulled, they cleaned the area and he had a big bloody toothy happy grin. It was THE most incredible video I've ever seen.

OH!

And HI! Hi hi hi, Agathafrye. :) I love that Jackie's friend has made an appearance here. I hope you'll stick around.

Agathafrye | 17 comments It's my own fault, I rescheduled twice because it was going to be a two hour appointment and everybody and their mother has been on vacation at my work lately. Now it's only a week and two days...

Well, good luck with that.

We always used Crest growing up and I never switched. When I am at Target I feel overwhelmed by the array of Crests - size, flavor, price. I usually just buy the cheapest Crest.

Oh, I did go through a phase when I bought Arm & Hammer baking soda toothpaste. Do they even make it anymore? I liked it. I love the taste of baking soda. Maybe I should just rub it on my teeth and save money.
