So, yesterday while I was reading my book, I couldn't stop thinking about book licking. I was eating a nectarine that was really juicy and I kept thinking, "If I get juice on my book what am I going to do?" I didn't get juice on it and decided that I wouldn't lick it, as it was a library book. But, I just CAN'T stop thinking about it! I think that might be crazier...it is becoming a fetish that is just sitting at the tip of my tongue.
Hey ...... I sniff pages. :) Although I do refrain from licking , because that would mess up the page , nor do I kiss the hello or goodbye. But Sniff? sure do ....and PROUD OF IT!
Sniffing, yes. I LOVE the smell of books. Especially the old ones you get in the used section. They smell of a grand history. The smell of books is one of the reasons why I just can't bring myself to do audio.
Hi - I was drawn to your group by Logan Graf, who kindly read and reviewed my book. I'm a South African author who has lived in Amsterdam for the past 20 years, after dodging conscription under the Apartheid regime. My first novel - Six Fang Marks and a Tetanus Shot - was published in South Africa last year and will be published in Dutch in the Netherlands in September this year.
Like most authors, I have a glaring ulterior motive for joining any group, but I promise not to tell you what it is.
To give you some idea of where I'm at, here's my list of favourites from Amazon, plus bullet reviews. My own book is on there, too, but you'll find I managed to review it with tongue firmly in cheek.
Books To Be Buried or Burnt With Me
Richard, welcome to the group. It'll be good to have you around. Thanks for the link, I loved your synopsis of Foucault's Pendulum:"Dan Brown’s talent and knowledge of the occult are but a strand of fluff under the toenail of Umberto Eco. Which says more about the latter than the former. Go read, heathens!"
It mirrors my opinion of the Da Vinci Tripe to a T. Plus, it's always good to see another person who loves Vernon God Little.
Hi Logan - You're quicker than Lucky Luke. Nice to get a warm welcome straight off the bat! Thanks again for your excellent review. My US distributor is out of stock, which I hope will help draw a US publisher to the bait. Otherwise I'm going to have to ask you to make photocopies and send them around.Hope I can count on you!
Hi Richard, welcome to the group. Any friend of Logans is a friend of ours. And thanks for not shoving your novel down our throats from the get-go :) We tend to like to get to know our members before they do that .. hee hee.. (As you can see from the Spammers Circle in Hell folder)
In any case, I hope you are able to join in some of the discussions we have going on, and thanks for sharing your list. We actually have a folder for lists we create that others can check out and comment on if you get a moment to check those out, and perhaps create some of your own as well!!...
Thanks again for joining!!

Hi Lori, thanks for the warm welcome. I'll try to keep Dr. Hyde hidden and will, of course, try to participate in and stimulate discussion wherever I can. Would you mind if I start two discussion topics straight off the bat? My editor, Henrietta Rose Innes, this week won the prestigious Caine Prize for African Writing for her superb short story Poison, which can be read online. And I'd like to point your readers towards another fabulous short story written by fellow South African author Siphiwo Mahala.
Looking forward to contributing.
Hi Lori - I'm always wary of stalkers with big dogs. As always, your comment is dangerously ambiguous. But I hope you'll find solace in the fact that you'll always be my #1 Lori on GoodReads. (Sorry, Mod Lori - that rhymes, so it must be true!)
Aw but look at that sweet smile on the big dog! As for stalking, I was here first, so who is the stalker? Plus I know what you are doing here. Friend Whore! Heehee.
I just HAD to share this story with y'all...last night my daughter was eating cheesy-poofs and I asked her to bring me my book. She brought it over to me and was like, "lick it where my fingers are"...she lifted her hand and there was cheesy-poof rements. I hestitated and thought about licking it, just to see...but, I just couldn't bring myself to do it!
