Tamanna (tamannazk) Hi everyone,
I need a little help and I thought this would be the perfect place to ask.

Back in 2000-2001, when I was 11-12, I picked up a book from my school library. In my memory, I remember it was about a woman who goes back in time in Scotland, and has to work as a maid or is respected as a "lovely lady" of sorts in this castle in Scotland. She has a lover in this time, but I don't remember whether they were really in love or she was a bit tentative with him. At some point, this woman (or a man?) goes forward in time to the current time, and he is shocked by the technology, roads, cars, planes in the sky. But the woman tries to protect him from being taken away from her, because he has some special thing to do in the current time. For some reason, that is the main gist of the story I remember.

I've been meaning to find out which book that was for ages, and tonight had a chance to do some online research - and stumbled on the Outlander series.

The "Dragonfly in Amber" title triggers some deep memories for me, but I can't pinpoint whether these memories are accurate.

I don't remember there being many overtly sexual scenes in the book, although I do remember there being a strong romantic relationship between the woman who goes back in time, and a man.

Does this sound like the Outlander series? Or can anyone thing of anything else?

Thank you SO MUCH for your help on this - this has been bugging me for years now, and any help is so so appreciated!!

Mishelle LaBrash (mishalabrash) | 397 comments No, sorry. This wouldn't be the outlander series. The hero in this series never goes back to current time. The book sounds good though.

That sounds really familiar!! There was a show... not sure about the restaurant. but I can't remember whether that was in the past, or in the current time. The scene I remember her most is her bustling through this castle, going upstairs in her medieval clothes trying to find her lover, and on the way all these people were saying hello to her because they had grown to love her although they didn't know where the came from (the future). The book was written for I'd say 11-13 year-olds, I remember the writing style being quite easy for me to understand at that age if that helps...

Thank you all for the help so far! Shell and Jenni - I will let you know what the book is if I ever find out :)

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) | 169 comments Its definitely not Outlander if it was an "easy" read for 11-13 yr olds. The Outlander series is very descreptive, detailed, and even at times hard to get through due to certain explicit scenes. I do hope you figure out what book you're looking for though. The only other time-travel books I have read that involve Scotland would be Karen Marie Moning's Highlander series. Those are good but also have quite a bit of detailed sex in them.
