Why Write?
I started writing out of boredom when I was twelve and never stopped.
So K.C. what have you written?
I write because it's a good way to vent. I also love creating a something wonderful out of tiny little piece of inspiration that I got from who knows where (I seriously get my inspiration from the strangest things o.o)

I had an agent with Trident Media Group, but because of Twilight I couldn't get the vampire book published. It didn't matter to them that it has a different hook. So I put them out there myself. At least they aren't sitting on my computer, doing nothing. I'm currently searching for an agent for my new MG book.
Ok. Good luck with that. At least you've been published. I didn't bother trying to find an agent, even or look for a publisher. They let you wait too long, if they deign to reply, that is. After I wrote my first book - vampire as well - I had it professionally edited & assessed then sent it straight to CreateSpace (the publishing arm of Amazon). I thought of sending it to Harlequin, but they accept only hard copies & it costs a couple of hundred dollars to send it to them from where I live - Sydney.
I write for the creative outlet. I have lots of ideas, but it takes discipline to bring them to fruition.
I am just starting to write. Most of my writing are 500 word or less imageries and short scenes. I am trying to write a novellette based loosely of a vampire game on Facebook. The twist is its from the point of view of a human. I write as an outlet.
Why write?Strange question to ask.
It's an uncontrollable urge. I find it's never a 'hey, you should sit down and write something' kind of thing, it just happens. You have an idea, a need to dialogue, to create, it just happens.
I don't want to question why....
And vampires fucking ROCK! They inspire me so much!

I'd go see Dark Shadows for two reasons - firstly, it's about a vampires and I'm a vamp girl and secondly anything with Johnny Depp is worth watching. Combine the two and you've got fanged fun!
Yes, please do. If I don't get to see it at the movies, I'll just wait till it comes out on dvd. Meanwhile I'll continue working on getting my own fanged story out there.
You bet! I reckon vampire genre is one of the best. There's something oddly appealing about an immortal bloodsucker - as long as they're good looking! LOL
ok but vampire books are better then movies couse books can discribe better than acters and movies
yeah i would love that vampire were real and i would marry again with one and have vampire babys with them
One problem with vampire babies - aren't vampires meant to be sterile? And if they weren't, would a vamp baby remain a baby forever, or if they did grow up, would they change at puberty? Food for thought!

But if a vampire's heart doesn't beat, then there's no blood flowing though his body. So not only would be sterile but he couldn't even... o.o

I write because there is no better way to escape from the mundane and boring life I lead. Reading is good, and you can enter another world, but writing is better. It frees me and I can create the world I am escaping into. Strangely, the worlds that I create are often terrifying and no place I would ever want to really visit. By the way, I used to have nightmares until I started writing horror stories. Now, I don't have bad dreams anymore. I guess my mind found a different way to vent those disturbing images, and, based on some of the reviews that my books have gotten, I have passed those nightmares on to my unsuspecting readers. If you're one of them, sorry.

Only the people that have not read my books think I write children books ......... no they are Young Adult Books .er... at that age you can vote .... Drink .... Go to war and kill people legally.... have sex and raise a family ................ and then people ask is Young Adult a childrens book?

Amy, I'm with you there.I'm a woman, that refuses to get old in, my way of thinking & things I like, or don't like. Your right, some mind.people don't evan understand the concept! Its not yrs. It's the mind,& I plan on using mine,to do what I like in life.Did that help you out any, Amy?
Young Adult, is just that, young adult. Children, are so much different.They still like to play games & watch cartoons on TV. Believe me,Cause I used to be 1 myself, a very long time ago.
Amy, are you the author of, Fated? I know I'v seen it,at Hastings, where I buy, all of my books,& DVDs.I think, I would like to read that book. Of course,I have too finish the ones I'm reading now. Don't want to get to many,to read, on my book shelves. I ,don't have an E-Reader, because I like the feel & the smell of a book in my hands.

I sometimes wonder why I write. I guess its because I never grew out of living in a fantasy world as a child and I need to get whatever is in my head out of me. Writing is also therapeutic for me in many ways, and it is my way of communicating with the world.
Yes, I get frustrated with children's and YA books being lumped into the same category. I really wouldn't want children reading some of the material I am writing. Categorizing young adult books as children's books is like categorizing fantasy as science fiction, probably worse. Fantasy was a category that came first, and much fantasy has nothing whatsoever to do with science. While it's true that some stories overlap the categories, that can be said for some books of other categories, too. To my mind, science fiction writing is usually fantasizing about the future. I realize that's an overgeneralization. Anyway, I stray from the topic here. Back on the subject, I wonder when teenagers became "young adults" instead of teenagers in literary circles. Young people like to read about characters at least a little older than them; I was taught to see my audience as a year younger than my protagonist, as a rule.
In answer to the question of this thread, I was driven to write almost as soon as I learned to string written sentences together in school. I started out putting art first, but writing was a close second. They fit well together at first, because as a child I could illustrate my own picture books. When other kids teased me, I said to myself that I would grow up to be a famous artist and writer, and when my enemies read about me in the newspapers, they would be sorry they had teased me. It wasn't just that. It was that I always loved stories, and I loved creating things. With time, writing became more of a passion, and my other creative pursuits fell largely away with writing remaining the priority. One reason I found myself a novelist was that, suffering from ADHD and also from a family that sometimes had loud parties at night, I spent hours trying to get to sleep, so I entertained myself by making up books in my head. I think I was always a writer; an illustration for my poetry collection shows me as a baby in the womb with a pen in my hand. Although at some times I have written more than at others times, it seems generally as important as breathing to me. But no one asks anybody else, "Why breathe?" (Choking myself didn't work. Never writing doesn't work for me, either. Especially since I rarely feel suicidal.)One reason I write is that I like to express myself but in a lot of ways I have often been silenced. Writing gives me a chance to say whatever I want to say and do it well. I'm less likely to "put my foot in my mouth" when I've had the chance to rehearse and polish what I write. And creating and maintaining characters keeps my busy mind entertained and alive. Then, when other people like what I've written, it's a great boost to self-esteem. That's why it's good to have short pieces of writing that you can share with people for quick responses to urge you on.
I write books because I love to read books. I enjoy reading not just what others write, but what I myself write. I don't like reading newspapers, in general. I want to look into hearts and minds and understand WHY people do the things they do. If I can't know, I like to guess. I may never know with real people, but with my own characters I can.
I also write because of the dreams and inspirations that come to me urging me to do so. My current novel started very clearly with a dream. I had to rearrange some of the details of the scenes that were in the dream to cause them to make more sense, but the idea is intact. I believe it was an inspiration from God. I sometimes have other dreams that come true or give me valuable lessons, which helps me to have more faith in my dreams. And for my current novel (which I hope to make into a series), I created a main character who also has dreams that come true--only I exagerated her gift above mine to make it more central to the story.

I suppose, zombies might be interesting to read, but still, love my vampire/human relationships. This topic , is so dangerous, for the human. Also, I like shapeshifters. They are interesting, just have'nt come across any zombies yet.
Why Do I write?I cant remember when i started writing- from theminute i learnt to, I had a pen in my hand.
I love the way you can use words to make someone laugh, cry, fall in love and hate someone.
I found my first story a few years ago. age 6 and I wrote a story abouta jar of mustard and a ladder falling in love.
Ive progressed since then, and Vampires (and witches, and werewolves) are my main thing to write about.

Now, I've written my own. It's a romance, with the hint of suspense and mystery. It's also the start of a series, which I've set in Sydney but its genesis is in Roman Britain.
