I think my father is the culprit. He forced me to read from age of 5. I had to read a book for 1 hour every day. No games, no TV, until I fulfilled his demand.
I hated it.
However, I think in a second grade, I came across a book I liked. Since then I am devout book reader. Cannot live one day without reading. Mostly it is Fantasy. I guess I am an escapist.
Although when I was younger I have read different genres. Theodore Dreiser, Walter Scott, Victor Huge, Lion Feuchtwanger, Erich Maria Remarque, Jack London etc. The Lord of the Rings has corrupted/spoiled me when I was 21. Reading is the only hobby that stayed with me through all my life although I lived 3 different countries, different languages, etc.
I have always loved to read. I've started reading at a very young age. Reading is fun. Reading can take you to places you have never been before. You can learn things that you didn't know.I just don't read romance books. I read educational books, magazines, Young adult books. If there's something good to read. I will pick it up and read it.
Of course, I love reading The Bible.
Elaine, that is wonderful that your daughter loves to read! I remember my Mom reading to me and to this very day I can still hear her voice and how she used different levels to accent the character words..Tanya, Judy Blume, I read her books as if they were candy. Loved her style and that she could really relate to young people of almost any age..
