Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments If practice makes perfect, men should have the clear edge in beer tasting, since they account for 72.8% of the world's beer sales, according to market-research firm Datamonitor Group. But SABMiller, which makes Pilsner Urquell, Peroni and Grolsch in addition to Miller and Coors brands, says its empirical evidence shows that females are the superior sex when it comes to detecting such undesirable chemicals as 3-methyl-2-butene-1-thiol, which makes beer "skunky."

And this is why a lot of women don't LIKE beer...

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Hm. This is interesting. I'll buy it. Hey, women don't want to drink beer, more for me...

message 4: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments It just explains why I like GOOD beers.

Did I mention that I'm making my way through a pack of Vanilla Porter?

OHH... what KIND of vanilla porter? It sounds yummy (at 9:30 in the morning, no less).

message 9: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
NO, I'm not drinking it now. I just mean now as in this week, these days, you know.

message 10: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I realized that. It still sounds yummy to me right now.

Sarah | 13814 comments I've never had a vanilla beer. Can you mix it with chocolate stout?

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Sarah Pi wrote: "I've never had a vanilla beer. Can you mix it with chocolate stout?"

Get a Strawberry lager in the mix and you could have a neapolitan.

message 14: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I really want vanilla porter now, but I will break my "don't buy any more beer until you're out of the old beer" left, and I still have Corona and Heineken left.

I'll live.

message 15: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments First step: pour out the Heineken.

message 16: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Sarah Pi wrote: "I've never had a vanilla beer. Can you mix it with chocolate stout?"

I'll bet it would be tasty with some fresh raspberries in it. :)

Corona and Heineken are the piss of the Mexican and the Dutch.

message 18: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
yeah, that's right. piss.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I'd just as soon not drink beer.

message 20: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
or piss.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I thought that went without saying, Sally.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

I would have thought so too!

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
you never know for sure

message 24: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Really? I like both Corona and Heineken. But I think I need to stop buying cases. I take forever to go through a case, and by the time I'm halfway done I want something else.

message 25: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I prefer Dos Equis to Corona (Dos Dos Equis, por favor). Corona get's skunky easily, it seems. Heinie does, too.

message 26: by Phoenix (new)

Phoenix (phoenixapb) | 1619 comments beer = carbinated piss in a can, bottle, keg, tap, or whatever is containing it. simply put, beer is yuk to me...

message 27: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Nothing worse than a skunky Heinie.

I actually enjoy both too, RA. I also enjoy PBR and Coors Light, what I consider the American equivalents of both. But I prefer Dos Equis or Pacifico for a Mexican beer, or a Stella for a European beer.

message 31: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) Skunkiest beer ever = Yeungling. That shit is nasty.

Best Mexican beer = Negra Modelo.

message 32: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments yes, heineken is piss water, that's why we export so much of it. i usually drink these:

sally, do you mean stella artois?

message 33: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments They're both such summer beers for me. Like tradition. But I try to drink a lot of local beer, too. Problem is, I really don't drink much. Maybe I should drink more.

Larry wrote: "Nothing worse than a skunky Heinie."

Are we still talking beer here?

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

After the pictures, I'm suddenly thirsty. Only 8 hours till I'm off work.

message 36: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments i drank my last beer yesterday, and i'm not buying any new beer this week. i'll get enough beer sunday.

message 37: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments My favorite beer ever is now available to you:
Resurrection Ale! In cans!

It's still better on tap, but there's a waiting list for the taps.

My beer for this summer is the Franzikanner Hefeweizen. Nice and summery without being piss.

i don't really understand the appeal of beer - or anything else for that matter - in a can. beer in a can is for bums. other beverages in a can are for teens. i only drink beer that's on tap or in a bottle.

message 40: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I agree, janine.

I agree with you in general. Top first, bottle second, cans a distant third.

But there are a couple of beers that I believe are canned for a reason, and they're pretty good. This is one. Young's Double Chocolate Stout is another. And Murphy's Irish Stout. For that matter, Guinness in a can is better than Guinness in a bottle.
