Half.com is shipping my copy to me - I'm actually going to *read* this book, instead of "just" listen to it at work! It's going to be my first experience with Mieville, even though I've owned King Rat for a few years now.

Kinda feeling the same way about King Rat. It's been on my shelf for a few years now, but I haven't touched it yet. Hoping that Un Lun Dun will be my gateway book.

With Perdido, it took me about a fifth to a quarter of the way to really get into it. The writing style is very heavy and elaborate, which i find reflects the setting of those books. Once i got into them though, it was unbelievably worth it, and couldn't put it down.
so still looking forward to this one!
this is one of the best books I have read this year. And considering I am at book 140, that says alot. the characters are capable of pulling your emotional puppet strings, the locations are imaginative, the story complex, yet not too brain-boggling. An excellent choice for Sept!
I'll be "swimming upstream" here I guess, but I really didn't care for it that much. I'm glad you're enjoying it. My review is here if you care to read it... I'll understand if you don't as you already know I didn't enjoy it that much. :)
I discovered this morning I can checkout the ebook from my local library's Overdrive website. So, I'll do that in a week or so.
read it last summer and loved it! As creative, entertaining, and awesome as it's cracked up to be :) Definitely a good intro to Mieville!
I started the book nearly two weeks ago. I've been on page 66 for about a week. The book just isn't engaging me. It's a shame because I really like Perdido Street Station and The Scar. Even Kraken was engaging, if not comprehensible. This one is just boring me. Does it pick up?
So, those of who have read it in the past or just finished - feel free to come on over into the discussion threads and get things rolling...
Got it from the library, started to read it, but put it down after 50 pages. Just not my cup of tea, I guess.
Ok - it's me again. There are a bunch of people in this thread who said they have read the book, but haven't participated in the threads.
Come on over! We don't bite!
A lot of people who have participated were a bit lukewarm about the book. There are a few people here who loved it. We'd really love to hear from you and get your perspective on things.
If you don't feel like there's a specific thread that your thoughts fit into - feel free the start another, or, if you're hesitant to do that, pm me and I'll open another thread with a name of your choosing.
Come on, folks - the floor is open and the mic's all yours. :)
